Reaction Paper in Science Quest

The document is a report from a student named Camille Malvecino about their experience at a Science Quest event. It describes four stations they visited: [1] Science Behind Magic, where they learned scientific principles behind magic tricks; [2] 3D Climate Change, where they learned about climate change and its causes; [3] The Dome, where they observed stars, planets and constellations; [4] Sharks, where they discovered the extinct Megalodon shark was three times the size of Great Whites. On the bus, they used microscopes and learned about human anatomy.

SCIENCE QUEST: MY LEARNING

A. Science Behind Magic

 We learned the things behind the magic by the help of science.
 I saw a plasma ball that provides energy to the fluorescent lights.
 I learned that behind every magic there’s a science.

B. 3D Climate Change
 In the second station we were supposed to wear 3D sunglasses but we
weren’t able to have one.
 The speaker taught us the meaning of the climate change, global warming
and greenhouse effect. There are lot of animals that extinct because of the
climate change and lack of food supply.
 The speaker showed a video clip regarding climate change.
 The greenhouse effect causes global warming that can affect us.
 A stronger greenhouse effect will warm the oceans and partially melt
glaciers and other ice, increasing sea level. Ocean water also will expand
if it warms, contributing further to sea level rise.
 Human activities are one of the causes of climate change. The things we
will give to our environment will just come back to us. We must do actions
to lessen the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

C. Dome
 This was the best station. I called this “Dome of Happiness in the Outer
Space”.
 I really enjoyed here because I saw the different stars and how they differ
from each other. It’s really amazing!
 I witnessed the movement of the sun as well as the moon.
 The speaker also explained why August and September were warmer
than November and December.
 I found out that only two sunrise and sunset exactly happened in east and
west every year.
 I saw here that different constellations and how they will know easily by
the use of our hands. It’s very amazing because we can distinguish the
exact position of the sun in every other day.

D. Shark

 We went to the fourth station and the speaker taught us the unfamiliar and
unbelievable creature that existed in the past years.
 I thought that Great White Shark was the largest shark ever existed but I
was wrong because the speaker said that there was a larger shark than
Great White.
 The Megalodon Shark was the largest shark existed on Earth. It is three
times larger than the Great White Shark. It’s already extinct due to a lack
of prey and increased competitions from predators. Climate Change is one
of the reasons of extinction of Megalodon Shark.
 It has four to five layers or rows of teeth. The size of it is as big as a bus
so it can eat a large number of people.
 I discovered that the height of a person is equal to the length of the middle
finger across to the other one.

In the bus of Science Quest, there were lot of things I learned…

 I saw the small particles inside the plants by the help of the microscope.
 I saw the Skeletal System of our body. There are lot of bones in our body
that grow as we grow older.
 I also saw the different organs inside our body like stomach, intestines,
heart and lungs. I played the magnets in the bus and I discovered that
magnets won’t attract if the poles are same.
