The relevance of Philosophy to education is to represent answer to questions about the
purpose of schooling, the teacher’s role, what should be taught and by what method to
use.
Philosophy in Education is so important that in one point or another. It is the anchor or
the baseline in education that education is dependent on what philosophy we adhere in
our life. That we cannot teach on pure knowledge only, but to teach them also how to use
that knowledge well, and when to use that knowledge in the coming future, basically we
teach to be become a functional adult equip with knowledge and skills in order to survive,
Philosophy therefore is the guiding principle in teaching. It is where we tap, we consult,
we inquire and we refer the things we are to teach our learners. That is how relevant
philosophy is in education. It is not just a subject matter to discuss with, but a subject
matter that we uphold the rest of our teaching career. It is something that we carry in our
hearts no matter what we do in teaching our learners. It is something that should be innate
specially for us educators that we should not forget the philosophy we have even though
we are faced with pressures in what to do, and what to teach them. But this philosophy in
education should create in us a joy and a fulfillment that what we teach our learners is
what we wanted them to become in the future. That what we adhere in our hearts, will
also give us joy in teaching our students, and will ignite the passion we have for teaching.
