CARDINAL RULES IN FIREARMS SAFETY
1. Consider Every Gun as Loaded
 Do not toy with your weapon. Remember that what you are carrying is a deadly
weapon capable of killing and it has been several times in the past that an
“EMPTY GUN KILLED A MAN”.
 Every gun has the potential for danger. Accidents happen because “I thought
the gun was empty”. If you always assume that the gun is loaded, you avoid
accidents.
2. Never let the muzzle of the gun point at anything you do not intend to shoot
 Always remember NOT to point the gun on any person or object that you do not
want to shoot.
 If a gun is fired accidentally, the chances of harm is avoidable if it is pointed in a
safe direction. Do not let the muzzle point at people, at surface which can be
penetrated and where there may be people behind.
3. Keep your trigger finger of the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
 •The only time you put your trigger finger on the trigger is when you are ready
to shoot and the muzzle of the gun is already pointing on the target.
 •A gun will not fire unless the trigger is deliberately pressed. Do not touch the
trigger until you have set your gun sights on a target and you are ready to shoot.
4. Be sure of your target and what is around it.
 It is very important to observe what is around you target. Always remember that
bullet can go through and through the target and if the bullet hits a hard surface,
it might ricochet to other direction.
 When you have made a decision to shoot, make sure you know where the bullet
will end up. If you miss, the bullet can hit an innocent bystander or go through a
wall and hit someone behind.
The Four Rules of Gun Safety provides an almost foolproof guide to prevent any
accident. As gun handler/owner, you must make them second nature to you. Be a
responsible and safe gun handler/owner.

PISTOL NOMENCLATURE

LOADING A PISTOL
 Point the pistol in a safe direction.
 Insert loaded magazine and check that the magazine catch engages .
 With your finger outside the trigger guard, and pointing the pistol in a safe direction, draw the
slide ( 1 7 ) back to the rear stop and allow it to fly forward. The pistol is now ready to fire .
UNLOADING A PISTOL
 Pointing the pistol in a safe direction, Keep your finger off the trigger and remove the magazine.
 Pull the side rearward one or more times to insure the chamber is empty.
 Watch for a live round or empty case to be ejected. Pull side rearward and lock it with the slide
catch lever holding the slide open.
 Make sure the last round in the chamber has been extracted and ejected.
 Visually and physically check the chamber and the magazine well to make sure the pistol has
been unloaded. Physically insert your index finger in the chamber and feel for the presence of a
round or cartridge case in chamber. The pistol is now unloaded and safe.
 Depress the slide catch lever the slide will be released forward .
 Unload and store the magazine.
 Pick up and store all loose rounds and empty cartridge cases.
 The pistol must be cleaned after every shooting session.

OUTGOING GUARD RESPONSIBILITY

 Get the incoming guards attention.
 Be aware of all safety aspects
 Draw the weapon
 Remove magazine and locks the slide to the rear
 Give Mag with ammo to incoming guard
 Check chamber
 Check External parts of pistol
 Turn over to incoming guard with slide locked to the rear.
INCOMING GUARD RESPONSIBILITY

 Receives Magazine with ammo and counts all the ammo and checks each ammo for damages
 Inserts ammo in Magazine.
 Keeping the slide locked to the rear, receives Pistol and checks external parts.
 After checking, release the slide back.
 Pointing in a safe direction, squeeze the trigger.
 Inserts Magazine.
FIREARMS CONDITION
 Condition 1 – Magazine Inserted, Chamber Loaded
 Condition 2 – Magazine Inserted, No Chamber Load
 Condition 3 – Magazine Not Inserted, Firearms and Magazines are separate
