GCSE Results August 2017

Churchdown School is proud to celebrate this year’s GCSE examination results. There are
many superb performances from individual students. The academic success of our students
flows from high quality teaching, discretely taught study habits and the emphasis on students
developing their own personal skills and talents. I would like to take this opportunity to
congratulate publicly the staff, teaching and non-teaching, for their dedication and hard work
and to congratulate the parents for all they do to support their children, our students.

The percentage of students gaining 5+ A*-C (9-4 English and Maths) grades, including English
and Maths, is 50%. The percentage of students achieving at least a 4 (which is equivalent to a C
grade from previous years) in English was 78% and 53% in maths. Of all the grades, almost
40% of them were between A* and B, reflecting the huge talent amongst the students.
Especially impressive results (A*-C) were achieved by a large number of departments and
special mention should go to ICT (100%), Business Studies (77%), Computing (85%), Drama
(92%), Fine Art (100%), 3D Art (100%), Textiles (100%), German (83%), Media (91%),
Photography (100%), Resistant Materials (91%), Graphics (100%), Physics (87%), Chemistry
(94%), Biology (87%), Music (100%), BTEC Travel and Tourism (100%) and BTEC Business
Studies (100%).

A large number of students earned outstanding results and they include:

Vasileios Apostolakis (1 x 9, 1x 8, 7 A* & 1 B)
Charlie Foster (1 x 9, 1 x 8, 1 x 7, 1 A*, 4 A, 1 B)
Harry Jones (2 x 8, 1 x 7, 5 A*, 2 A)
Kieran Berry (2 x 8, 1x 7, 3 A*, 2 A, 2 B)
Abigail Avery (1 x 8, 1 x 7, 1 x 5, 1 A*, 2 A, 3 B,)
Adam Hall (1 x 8, 1 x 7, 1 x 6, 1 A*, 4 A, 3 B)
Benjamin Hall (1 x 8, 2 x 5, 2 A*, 3 A, 1 B, 1 C)
Donald Bisset (1 x 6, 2 x 5, 2 A*, 3 A, 2 B)
Joshua Parslow (3 x 7, 1 A*, 3 A, 3 B)
Natasha Hurle (1 x 8, 1 x 5, 1 x 4, 4 A 2 B)
Romy Burdett (1 x 8, 1 x 7, 1 x 6, 1 x 5, 1 A, 4 B, 1 C)
Robert Lloyd (1 x 7, 2 x 6, 1 A*, 3 A, 3B)
Matthew Merritt (1 x 6, 2 x 5, 1 A*, 1 A, 5B)
Callam Prosser (2 x 6, 1 x 5, 1 A*, 4 A, 2 B, 1 C)

Whilst we recognise there is much hard work to be done to continue to improve our exam
performance each year, the school is hugely proud of this year group and we look forward to
seeing the vast majority of students move into our Sixth Form where yet greater opportunities
await them. The others will go onto college or into modern apprenticeships, really strong
foundations for a glowing future.
