A. The environment is the world that surround us. All living and non-living
things that surround us makes the environment. For eg: - houses, buildings,
animals, land, air, water and light.
Q2. Define pollution.
A. The presence or introduction of harmful substance in the environment is called
pollution.
Q3. Name the four basic needs that the environment fulfils.
A. The four basic needs that the environment fulfils are oxygen, water, food and
shelter.

Q4. What are the causes of the following :


a) Air pollution : Smoke from factories, fumes from vehicles and bursting of
crackers.
b) Water pollution : Bathing, washing clothes and utensils in water bodies such
as rivers
Lakes or wells, bathing of animals in ponds or rivers, dumping household and
factory waste into water bodies.
