Indian English
Most Indians speak with a native tinted accent for their English speech,
whereas the modern generation tends to speak with an accent similar to the
received pronunciation (accent of standard English in United Kingdom)
In general, Indian English has fewer peculiarities in its vowel sounds than the
consonants, especially as spoken by native speakers of languages like Hindi,
the vowel phoneme system having some similarities with that of English.
Indian English generally uses the Indian numbering system (lakh, crore).
Idiomatic forms derived from Indian literary languages and vernaculars have
been absorbed into Indian English.
Standardisation of Dialects
What is Standardisation?
Process by which conventional forms of language are established and
maintained.
May occur through natural development of a language in a speech
community.
May occur as an effort by members of a community to impose one dialect or
variety as a standard.
Re-standardisation refers to the way a language may be reshaped by its
speakers and writers.
