Longitude and Latitude
Did you know?
Finding and entering the latitude and longitude of your excavation site’s starting and ending
points will help with mapping speed and accuracy when calling Pennsylvania One Call. When
you know these coordinates, you may provide them with your work site information, and this
will make locating easier and faster at the map. The easiest format to share is in “decimal
degrees.”
Latitude and longitude points are also helpful when using the www.paonecall.org Web Ticket
Entry application. Enter these coordinates in the location section to help you get to the location
on your Web Ticket map.
While Pennsylvania One Call does not endorse any technique over another, and there are many
methods to find the latitude and longitude of your site, one popular web application to help
you is Google Earth - download the desktop app at www.google.com/earth/
This “how to” document will walk through setting the Google Earth application to show the
latitude and longitude coordinates on your browser or smartphone in a decimal degrees format.
