3. MATERIALS PARAMETERS & UNITS

Unless specified otherwise, the following materials’ characteristics and design specifications
shall be used in the design calculations and structural models as discussed below along with
the material design parameters to be used in the structural report for Pile reactions calculation
at Doha Port Re-development Project.

3.1 UNITS

Units to be used in the calculation shall be in accordance with SI Units, meter (m), centimeter
(cm), millimeter (mm), Newton (N) and Kilo Newton (kN) shall be used. If the loading values
given by mechanical or by others are in tons or kg, the given values shall be transferred to the
equivalent values in SI unit, such as 5kN (for 0.5tons), 294kN (for 30tons), 1kN/m2 (for 100
kg/m2), 4.9kN/m (for 500kg/m) 1 ton equals 9.8kN in general, alternatively it may be considered
as 10kN for small loads having less than 1 ton

The symbols to be used in calculation sheets shall be in accordance with Eurocode.

3.2 MATERIALS PROPERTIES

Structural concretel will be the principal construction materials to be used in this project.

The design will be governed by the relevant material specification.

Compressive strength of concrete fck : 40 MPa

Yield strength of reinforcement fyk : 500 MPa
Modulus of Elasticity Ec : 35 GPa
Pile stiffness:
Kx = 29 500 kN/m
Ky = 29 500 kN/m
Kz = 400 000 kN/m

4. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Pile reactions to be used for Doha Port Redevelopment Project shall be calculated for
the load combinations shown below and shall be within the limits of Eurocode for
concrete for Ultimate Limit State (ULS) and Serviceability Limit State (SLS).

The provision for the load combination for the structural design and review of the project
shall be based on the construction stage, ultimate limit state and serviceability
requirements.

With an appropriate degree of safety, the steel structure should sustain all the loads and
deformations of normal construction and use.

4.1 LOAD COMBINATION

In checking the capacity of pile and formulating pile reactions, or of any part of it, the specified
loads shall be multiplied by the relevant partial factors as per Eurocode.

Note that the factored loads shall be applied in the most unfavorable realistic combination for
the part of effect under consideration.

4.1.1 ULTIMATE LIMIT STATE

Ultimate limit states concern the safety of the whole or part of the structure to achieve an
acceptable probability that it will perform satisfactorily during their intended life.
Load combinations in accordance with Eurocode which are summarized in the table below.

4.1.2 SERVICEABILITY LIMIT STATE

The deformation or vibration of the structure or of any part of it under serviceability loads should
not adversely affect its strength, efficiency, appearance or its use.

Analysis Professional 2020.

6. STRUCTURAL MODEL

actions — Wind Actions)
 Basic Wind velocity: 27 m / sec (≈ 60 mph) for 10 min. mean wind velocity with an
annual risk of being exceeded of 0.02.
 Terrain Category: 0
 Orography Factor, C0(z): 1
 Turbulence Factor, k1: 1
 Structural Factor, CsCd: 1
 Cp : Calculated for each building based on Section 7 of the code

7.5 Seismic Load

According to EN 1998-1: (Eurocode 8: Design of structures for earthquake
resistance — Part 1: General Rules, seismic action and rules for buildings)
 Peak ground acceleration, agR = 0.045 g
 Importance factor =1.0
 Design ground acceleration, ag = 0.045 g

7.6 Temperature Load (TL)
As per QCS 2014, the considered design temperature was based on site temperature

Mean yearly temperature = 28.99 oC
Maximum ambient temperature = 50 oC
Minimum ambient temperature = 5 oC
Design ambient temperature = 50 oC
Maximum metal temperature under the sun = 85 oC
The temperature loads are applied to all concrete members of the structure. Therefore,
the following temperature loading conditions will be considered in design.

Positive Temperature Range: ΔT = +25 oC
