Cognitive Observation
Part A – 6-month-old
1. a. The child flipped over on his stomach started to push himself up on his knees and
hands and then went back down on his stomach, he sat himself up and picked one of the toys
which were keys he looked at the keys for a while and then he started to dangle them and put
them in his mouth.
b. The sensorimotor substages I think the child is in are the primary circular reactions and
secondary circular reactions.
2. Stuffed bear to learn the texture, the ball to learn how to roll also how it sounds, cloth
book with the different patterns and the textures.
3. by placing a variety of toys for infant and having them pick what they like, they interact
with the child by talking to them and identifying what they have picked.
Part B – 18 months
1. a. The child was playing with legos for a while and then she chose to pick up the book
and started flipping through the pages and looked at the pictures.
2. They have legos possibly helping the child to learn how to build, kitchenware by
identifying what is in the kitchen, wooden puzzles to identify the shape of the puzzle and
placing it in the right place and books to identify object in the book.
3. The child had gone for the book and brought it to the adult and they opened the book and
they interacted with the child as the adult said the object in the book the child was able to
identify what it was.
1. The child that was observed was in the preoperational stage, for this child she had been
interested in the two similar toys that I had placed in front of her which were a plushie
dog and a plastic toy dog. I had told her that I was going to hide the little dog behind the
tv and to watch me, and then I said I was going to now hide the bigger dog. I asked her to
find the bigger dog which it had been hiding behind the same place the little dog was
hiding in. She had tried to find the stuffed animal, she looked behind cushions I had
mentioned again that the dog was in the same place the little dog had been hiding, she
continued looking until she had looked behind the tv which she had found the dog. I had
attempted to try the same thing again by using another hiding place which it was the same
process, it took her awhile to find the bigger animal as before.
2. I think by starting off with simple steps, instead of having one big animal and one small
animal maybe having two of the same animal the same size and hiding them for her, which
maybe could have helped her advance more when it came to having two different animals of
the same size.
