2 Pole Synchronous Generator - Matlab Question

The document describes a 555MVA, 24kV synchronous generator and provides its parameters including inductances, resistances, and damper winding values. It asks to: 1) Calculate base values using the generator ratings and convert parameters to per unit values. 2) Using the per unit values and generator ratings, calculate internal angle and electrical variables at rated load. 3) Implement a SIMULINK model of the generator using the provided parameters and simulate its response over 15s with a constant mechanical torque input and Thevenin equivalent load.

Q3 (Synchronous Generator Modelling in SIMULINK)

Please implement the mathematical model of synchronous generator in SIMULINK (The

complete dynamic model expressed as a set of differential equations in Lecture 5 and
Lecture 6). The generator is the same as that in Ql and is modelled with two q-axis damper
windings and one d-axis damper winding (Physical synchronous machine blocks under
SimPowerSystems/Simscape library cannot be used. Use the modelling technique
learned from Lecture 2 of the MATLAB Introduction module). The machine rated values
are used as base values for stator quantities and Lad - base per unit system is used.

The per unit values of resistances and inductances for damper windings are the same as those
calculated in part d of Ql. The per unit values of resistances and inductances for field
winding and stator are the same as those calculated in part c of Ql. You can use the per unit
zero-sequence inductance La== 0.1, rotor inertia constant H == 3.527 , and per unit darn.ping

coefficient KD == 0.01.

The generator has a constant mechanical torque input ofT,n == 671380N · m, and is on manual

excitation control with constant excitation voltage of E1d == 123.8825V.

The external system. connected to the generator is simplified to a Thevenin equivalent which
is a constant voltage source behind a resistance. The three-phase voltage source is given as
(magnitude of 1.0 per unit):

11a == sin( mt)

vb . ( mt - 21r)
== sin
3
Ve . ( mt+ 2,r)
== Sln
3

where OJ == 2 x 1C x 60 rad I s is the rated angular frequency.

The Thevenin equivalent resistance is equal to 0.1 n.

a. Simulate the system for 15s with initial rotor speed of zero. Show responses of rotor
speed m,. and electrical torque T.. (Configure the solver to fixed-step type, odel (Euler)

with a constant time step of 100µs )
