BSAR 5B
My interpretation: it means the shape of a building or object should primarily relate to its intended function or
purpose.
My interpretation: it means that the shape of the building does not necessarily correlate with its function. Counter
part of Sullivan.
My interpretation: Organic architecture is also translated into the all-inclusive nature of Wright's design process.
Materials, motifs, and basic ordering principles continue to repeat themselves throughout the building as a whole.
5. Frank Lloyd Wright “I know the price of success: hard work and an unremitting
devotion to the things you want to see happen”
My interpretation: success is the result of hard work and devotion to the things you want to see happen
6. Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe “Architecture starts when you carefully put two bricks
together. There it begins”
My interpretation: you only get the architecture when you combine the two bricks. Just like two hallow blocks,
when they come together they can build a house.
7. Daniel Burnham ‘Make no little plans, they have no magic to stir men’s
blood”
My interpretation: We need to be dreaming big. We need to be taking big risks and making big plans.
My interpretation: expressing the idea that whatever one does should be done thoroughly.
9. Bobby Manosa “Architecture must be true to itself, its land and its people”
10. Frank Gehry “I don’t know why people hire architects and then tell them what to
do”
My interpretation: It is always a back and forth process. The client will, of course give you instructions and things
to keep in mind because it is his house or building that we are designing.
Never forget that. He is hiring you to give him suggestions and correct
him and also explain to him the possible and impossible.
