II. BACKGROUND

On today’s generation, payment system has been created

and design for various purposes of purchasing. Cards, credit
transfers, direct debits and e-money are non-cash payment
instruments with which end users of payment systems transfer
funds between accounts at banks or other financial
institution.

Payment system is any system used to settle financial

transactions through the transfer of monetary value, and
includes the institutions, instruments, people, rules,
procedures, standards, and technologies that make such an
exchange possible. The system allows an individual to make
transactions electronically that can include purchasing
items on-line with a computer or using a smart phone to
purchase something or to pay something at the store.

Through these, many transportation companies starts to

accommodate this kind of system using smart card, which will
help their employees to have a fast, tranquil and easy way
on providing good and hassle free services to their
customers.
In Manila, Philippines, a new ticketing system similar to
that of Hong Kong’s Octopus cards was tested at a Light Rail
Transit 2 (LRT2) station. The new ‘tap and go’ card
ticketing system was tested at Legarda Station that expected
to ease long lines in LRT and MRT stations. Once
implemented, the magnetic stripe tickets currently in use
replaced by contactless, tap-and-go smart cards that come
with microchip much like Hong Kong’s Octopus cards and
Singapore’s EZ link.

What we have right now at bus scenario is a driver and a

conductor who will go around the bus to collect fees. And
most of the time when you paying fees, you feel irritated
with the coins change or to hold your money with you. Plus
the conductor who’s roaming around and shouting for those
who did not pay yet.
And now, ”The Provincial Bus Cashless Payment” system
provides a friendly user system which will minimize the
employees work in assessing the payments of the passengers.
The project include on saving the passengers name, travel
information (time arrived, cost of payment, balance left in
the smart card, time/date/place departed), vehicle (plate
number, bus number, destination operated, driver and the
conductor), and stations. It also uses printers as its
output and provide database for storing information use as
evidence.

Because we wanted for our passenger a convenient trip

like an easy, hassle free and fast transaction in terms of
traveling with the help of “The Bus Cashless Payment”. Now
we can go and feel relax as we go to our designated
destination.
III.OBJECTIVES

General Objectives

The general objective of the study entitled “Provincial

Cashless Payment” is to develop an advance process of
payment at the provincial buses which can make the
passengers easier to travel.

Specific Objectives

 To give them more efficient and fast transaction by having

their own RFID (Radio Frequencies Identification) card that
will just tap on the device that will carry by Bus conductor.
 To develop manual ticketing to automatic using a thermal
printer.
 To give less hassle of taking money in wallet to (RFID).
 To make sure that the transaction between Bus conductor and
passenger will be surely right because of its automated way of
taking far on passenger.
IV. TECHNICAL ASPECT

The move by city public transport bus firms to adopt the

e-bus fare payment system (cashless) has been, for instance,
touted to cut costs, promote road safety and boost
operators’ revenues, among others.

“The Tap & Go payment system for public transport has helped
reduce the inconvenience of carrying change (in terms of
coins) for the bus fare on the part of commuters. It has
also helped the sector to become more efficient as well as
improve cleanliness of buses by elimination of paper.

Boosting revenue collection

The common problem that all operators faced, was loss of

revenue due to money passing through a lot of hands namely
from conductor, to bus drivers, to the person collecting it
among others.

Sector players and operators say that up to 25 per cent was

being lost in the hands of conductors, drivers and
accountants under the old fare payment system.

With the Tap & Go system, the bus operators have now
recovered such bus revenues.
Equipment’s

1. Android Phone – is a powerful, high-tech smart phone that runs

on the Android operating system (OS) developed by Google and is
used by a variety of mobile phone manufacturers.

2. Bluetooth Thermal Printer - is a portable thermal printer that

combines USB, RS-232 Serial and Bluetooth communication
interface together. Support IOS and Android

operating system. It can print 58mm

width thermal paper. It is Mini and
lightweight portable to carry
around and can be widely used for
receipts and ticket printing.

3. RFID Card - RFID is an acronym for “radio-frequency

identification” and refers to a technology whereby digital data
encoded in RFID tags or smart labels are captured by a reader
via radio waves. RFID is similar to bar coding in that data from
a tag or label are captured by a device that stores the data in
a database. RFID, however, has several advantages over systems
that use barcode asset tracking software. The most notable is
that RFID tag data can be read outside the line-of-sight,
whereas barcodes must be aligned with an optical scanner. RFID
belongs to a group of technologies referred to as Automatic
Identification and Data Capture (AIDC). AIDC methods
automatically identify objects, collect data about them, and
enter those data directly into computer systems with little or
no human intervention. RFID methods utilize radio waves to
accomplish this. At a simple level, RFID systems consist of
three components: an RFID tag or smart label, an RFID reader,
and an antenna. RFID tags contain an integrated circuit and an
antenna, which is used to transmit data to the RFID reader (also
called an interrogator). Tags may either be read-only, having a
factory-assigned serial number that is used as a key into a
database, or may be read/write, where object-specific data can
be written into the tag by the system user. Field programmable
tags may be writing-once, read-multiple; "blank" tags may be
written with an electronic product code by the user. The reader
then converts the radio waves to a more usable form of data.
Information collected from
the tags is then transferred through a communications
interface to a host computer system, where the data can be
stored in a database and analyzed at a later time.

4. RFID Card Reader - Radio-frequency identification (RFID) uses

electromagnetic fields to automatically identify and
track tags attached to objects. The tags contain
electronically-stored information. Passive tags collect
energy from a nearby RFID reader's interrogating radio
waves. A radio frequency identification reader (RFID reader)
is a device used to gather information from an RFID tag,
which is used to track individual objects. Radio waves are
used to transfer data from the tag to a reader. RFID systems
can be classified by the type of tag and reader. A Passive
Reader Active Tag (PRAT) system has a passive reader which
only receives radio signals from active tags (battery
operated, transmit only). The reception range of a PRAT
system reader can be adjusted from 1–2,000 feet (0–600 m),
allowing flexibility in applications such as asset
protection and supervision. An Active Reader Passive Tag
(ARPT) system has an active reader, which transmits
interrogator signals and also receives authentication
replies from
passive tags.
An Active Reader
Active Tag
(ARAT) system
uses active
tags awoken
with an
interrogator
signal from
the active reader. A variation of this system could also use
a Battery-Assisted Passive (BAP) tag which acts like a
passive tag

but has a small battery to power the tag's return reporting

signal. Fixed readers are set up to create a specific
interrogation zone which can be tightly

controlled. This allows a highly defined reading area for

when tags go in and out of the interrogation zone. Mobile
readers may be hand-held or mounted on carts or vehicles.
Smart Card – a plastic card with a built-in microprocessor,
used typically for electronic processes such as a financial
transaction and personal identification.

5. USB OTG (On The Go) – is a standard that enables mobile devices
to talk to one another by enabling your device to act as a USB
host.

FEEDBACK

In the Input, it includes that the information of the

passenger is being saved. Then the smart card of the
passenger is tap to the device that the conductor
accommodates.

Process consists of the following: the process run under the

Android Kit as it computes the right amount the passenger
needed to be deducted to its card, the program building that
would be embedded to the USB to be sent to the host.
For the Output, the Provincial Cashless Payment System
provides information to the passengers by the printed
receipt (amount deducted to his card, balance left and the
bus information.

Significance of the Study

The Provincial Cashless Payment is able to provide a

reliable and efficient payment system, especially for the
commuter who goes to provinces. It is a system that enables
the commuters to easily re-load their cards. In this study
the researchers must fully meet the needs of the company as
well as the commuters and how to make the system easy to
implement.
The findings accumulated by this may provide significant
benefits to the following groups and individuals:

Company. The system will help the company to produce a

technology-based payment system that is a friendly user
system for the employee accountable to the device.

Commuters. The system will make an easier way on re-loading

the card inside the bus with the help of the bus conductor.

Researchers. The researchers developed understanding on how

to make the study become applicable and useful to the user.

Future Researchers. The system will benefit and help the

future researchers as their guide and will serve as template
to modify their research. This system is also open in
development and innovation.

Scope and Delimitation

Scope
The main focus of the project was an efficient
and easy way of paying on the bus in automated way. The
system will be using android phone as its device and
Bluetooth thermal printer and an RFID (radio-frequency
identification) as an input/output data source from
passenger. The bus conductor will ask for the destination
where the passenger will go, and start on clicking the
android package kit (APK) file software provided for the
ticketing system to save the information given to the bus
conductor. The android phone will now send the information
on database website and the Bluetooth printer will print for
the conformation and other stated information for the
passenger.

Delimitation
The tracking of bus on real time is not including on
the system features provided for the passenger. It will just
track the real time currently on bus and it cannot send
emergency call if there is something happened or happening
in the bus. They need to call manually on phone or anything
gadgets existing.

VI. MARKETING ASPECT

Our target customer in Bus Cashless Payment is the

Owner/ President of the Bus company and the expected volume
to be sold is 50% because not all the bus company is able to
keep pace with other bus company especially when the bus is
not airconditioned yet and the priority is to upgrade the
bus into air conditioned than the Bus Cashier Payment

The Bus Cashless Payment is the most convenient and

easiest way to how the passenger pay especially in a rush
hour or in a crowded bus. Because in just one tap the
payment of the passenger will obtained easily. And not only
the bus company will be happy and satisfied also the
customer too because of the security and less hassle.

How to know your product Incentive/Referral

To reach people’s awareness about the new buses, flyers may

be given out, and the companies may be invited for a meeting
to discuss how these new buses can help and make the
commuting experiences of people easier.

Bring to internet would make use of the powerful influence of

the social media to make the excistence of automated buses
know to the people. Own website like facebook, Instagram,
Twitter will be constructed. For it to reach a much popular
image I needs to be “in” by engaging into poster, short
movies or meme’s so that the costumers will be aware that
there is easier way to commute everyday and for the companies
to know about this great invention will the goal of lessening
the stressful rides of both conductor and the passengers.

Incentive
If an employee were able to successfully convince a client,
20% of the sales may be given to him/her.

SWOT ANALYSIS

STREGNTH
The primary strength of a bus company with this kind
of machine is the ease for both the operator and the
passengers in collecting the fares especially when the
passengers are in a hurry. The process is more convenient
because for instances, needing coins for the people’s change
would not be a problem. This would be much better for the
passengers, for it ensures security as they are able to be
aware of the driver and the plate number. Other people
cannot easily use the cards if they aren’t theirs because
these are registered for the owners.

WEAKNESS
On the other hand, the weaknesses would be the much
costly fare because of the cards and automated system as
compared to our buses today without the machine. There
are some passengers who don’t find their trips hassle
and have their budget stems making them still choose the
ordinary buses today. For the companies there are some
who still can’t afford to operate on the expensive
machine for their buses. Or maybe, can but they seem to
prioritize having an upgrade for the buses itself over
the proposed machine. If the machine suddenly breaks or
encountered some problems in the middle of the trip, the
bus operation can be stopped specially when the
conductor is out. Since no one is in charge of fixing it
people would just wait till the bus successfully goes
back to the terminal. For the passengers, if the cards
were not detected as soon as expected, it is possible
that they can’t the bus .

OPPURTUNITIES- some researchers can still innovate this

product. And also we can avail for franchising

THREATS- The greatest rival of netizens would be the normal

buses today specifically for majority of the Filipino’s who
are thrifting their money. Since the fare is much cheaper
than that of the proposed automated buses, they would choose
the former in order to save money.
