A Detailed Lesson Plan

Santa Claus had 51 candies that he divided equally among 3 children. To solve this problem, the students learned the steps to divide a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number without remainder. The steps are: 1) divide the tens place by the divisor, 2) multiply the answer by the divisor, 3) subtract, 4) bring down the ones place, and 5) repeat the process until finished. Using these steps, the students determined that each child received 17 candies.

A DETAILED LESSON PLAN II

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the students are able to:

A. Follow the steps in dividing 2 digit numbers by a 1 digit number;

B. Solve 2 digit numbers by a 1 digit number without reminder;
C. Appreciate the value of sharing in one’s life
II. SUBJECT MATTER
A. Subject Matter: DIVIDING TWO DIGIT NMBER by a ONE DIGIT NUMBER without reminder
B. References: textbook; Math for Smart Kids pages 153-157
C. Values: Appreciating one’s own life
III. LEARNING EXPERIENCE

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY

1. Preliminary Activity

a. Building Rapport

Good Morning class! Good Morning teacher!

b. Review

Yesterday, we discussed about what? The parts of division equation.

Very Good! What are the three parts of division
The three parts of division equation are the divisor,
equation?
dividend and quotient.

What is dividend?
Dividend is a number that being divided.
Good!

What is divisor?
A divisor is a number that divides the dividend.
Correct!
What do we call to the answer to division? The answer in division is called quotient.

Very good! All your answers are correct.

Now class I have an exercise about the parts of

division equation.
(Pupils will do as told)
Direction: Identify the underlined digit.

_______1. 12÷4=3
1. Dividend
_______2. 20÷5=4 2. Quotient
3. Divisor
_______3. 15÷3=5 4. Qoutient
_______4. 4÷2=2 5. Dividend

_______5. 8÷8=1

c. Motivation

Now class, what occasion comes to your mind

when we say December? Christmas teacher!
Yes! Very good. What is the name of the man who Santa Claus!
gives gift in Christmas?

Yes! It’s Santa Claus!

Now I have a story. Do you like to hear story

class? Yes, teacher!

2. Lesson Proper
a. Presentation

Now class, my story is about “Santa Claus”.

Santa Claus lives in a beautiful city called Santa

Claus Ville. Every day he works hard in wrapping
gifts for children.

Santa Claus is very generous. He loves to

share. He looks for good children all over the
Ville. He always sure to have bundles of gift toys
and candies for the good little girl and boy.

One day, when Santa Claus is walking around

the Ville there are 3 children. But he has 51
candies left in his bag. So Santa Claus divides the
candies to the 3 children.

Santa Claus was very happy to see the smile on

the face of the 3 children.

Do you like the story class?

Yes teacher!

Now, I have some question. Who are the

characters of the story? Santa Claus and 3 children.
Okay. Now, class Santa Claus has a problem. He
wants to find out the total amount of candies did
each receive. Do you want to help him? Yes teacher!

(Teacher will present the problem)

Santa Claus has 51 candies. He divides it

equally to the 3 children. Santa Claus wants to
find out how many candies did each child receive
in all?

Now, what is the problem of Santa Claus? He wants to know how many candies did each child
received.
Based on the problem, what are given?
51 candies and 3 children
What is the number to be divided?
51
How about the number that will be divided to 51?
3
What do you think is the operation to be used in
the given operation? Division
Very Good!

To easily solve the problem, we need to follow

these steps in dividing 2 digit numbers by a 1 digit
number.

Step 1 Divide the dividend by the divisor

Step 2 Multiply the answer with the divisor

Step 3 Subtract
Step 4 Bring down the ones digit

Step 5 Repeat the Steps from 1,2,3

Again class, what are the given? 51 and 3

Now class, we need to use this division

sign in order for us to easily solve the problem.

So, we write the equation like this,

What is the first step in the dividing 2 digit

Step 1 Divide the dividend by the divisor.
numbers by a 1 digit number?

What digit is in the tens place?

What is the divisor? 5

Now let us divide 5 divided by 3 is equal to what

______?

What is the third step? Step 2 multiply the answer with the divisor
What is the quotient? 1
So now class we need to multiply 1 times 3
equals_______?

What is the third step?

Step 3 Subtract
We need to subtract 5 to 3.

What will be the answer?

Class what is step 4? Step 4 Bring down the ones digit

What digit is in the ones place?

What is the last step? Step 5 Repeat the steps from 1,2,3

Now let us do it again. What is the step 1? Step 1 divide the dividend by the divisor

In this case we need to divide 21 divided by 3 is

equal to what?

Very Good!

Again what is the second step?

Step 2 multiply the answer with the divisor
Let us multiply 7 by 3, is how many?

What is the third step?

Step 3 Subtract
So, 21 minus 21 equals to what?

Now class, What is the quotient?

17
What is 17 in the word problem?
It is the total amount of candies each child received
Very Good! in an all.
b. Generalization Steps in dividing 2 digit numbers by a 1 digit number
without reminder are:

Very well said!

c. Application
Now, let’s have a game. I will divide you in
two groups and finds some representative
