Engineering Mechanics Assignment No - 2 Module - 2 Equilibrium of Coplanar Forces

1. The document discusses problems involving the equilibrium of coplanar forces in engineering mechanics. It provides 6 problems involving determining support reactions, tensions in wires or chords, and forces in various structures based on given force diagrams and dimensions. The problems involve pipes, spheres, bars, beams, and rigid links supported under different loading conditions. 2. The problems require applying the principle of equilibrium of coplanar forces to solve for unknown forces and reactions based on the given force and support configurations. Dimensions, weights, and applied forces are provided to determine support reactions, tensions, and internal member forces. 3. Solving the problems involves setting up the appropriate equations of equilibrium and solving the resulting simultaneous equations to determine

Equilibrium of Coplanar forces
1. A 30kg pipe is supported at A by a system of five chords. Determine the force in each
chord for equilibrium

2. Sphere A is supported by two wires AB, Ac Find out tension in wire AC

(i) Before wire Cut

(ii) Just after AB is cut

3. A bar is hinged at A and rests on cylinder at C. AC=500mm, CB=300mm, diameter of cylinder is

400mm and its weight is 200N. The distance of the centre
of the cylinder is 500mm. From A and is connected to the
bar by a horizontal wire OE as shown in the figure. A
weight 500N is suspended at B: Determine
(i) Reaction of Hinge A
(ii) Tension in the wire
(iii)Reactions at C and D
Neglect the weight of bar and assume all surfaces smooth

4. Find the support reaction for the beam as loaded and supported as shown in the figure

5. Find the reactions at the A and B on the structure shown in figure

6. Find the support reactions at A, B and C from the rigid link DEF supported by cylinder at D and F.
The link is loaded by force of 20kN as shown in figure. Neglect friction and self weight of link and
cylinders. Take diameters of cylinders as 200 mm and DE=EF=300mm
