I. INTRODUCTION

Proper Waste Disposal is one of the ways that we can help to clean our environment.
Knowledge on waste segregation is very important in our daily living. Government and non
government sectors have their own ways of promoting this program to reduce our huge
problem of garbage disposal. To support the government’s program Republic Act 9003
(Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000), the school of Kolehiyo ng Lungsod ng Lipa
requires their students an immersion. It is for us to have an involvement and participation
on helping to promote community awareness and importance of proper segregation.

In line with this, All of the students of Kolehiyo ng Lungsod ng Lipa (KLL) have been
assigned to educate people in Lipa City about proper waste management and share some
knowledge by giving some fliers and visiting their residences. The students of different
departments were assigned to different barangays in lipa. Department of BSBA students
under our group was assigned in Brgy. Uno and Purok 7. Firstly, our team coordinated with
barangay officials for the activity we are planning by that day. Activity started at 7 in the
morning lead by Councilor Cleng, Mr Larry and Mr Edz. For the majority of the residents we
approached we were lucky that we’re entertained well and had chance to discuss and
explained to them necessary points of proper waste management program. To monitor all
the houses that we have speak already we put an indication or sign in each of the houses.
We marked star(⭐) all the residence who accommodates and entertained us, likewise
marked (X) to inform other students that residence have no enough time to talk or entertain
them. Most of the issues that we encountered during the activity are some houses
entertained already by other groups. It was quite hard for our team to look for another
prospect residences especially we are not allowed to go far beyond our designated location.

On the second day of our activity we started same time and well coordinated to the
barangay officials of Barangay 9A where we assigned that time. Our group led by Mr Pogs
easily approach some residences in the said barangay. Same issues we encountered on our
first day. While we are nearly finish the fliers it takes time for us to look for some houses
because most of the residences reached out already by some groups. After we speak to the
residents we asked them signature and profile details to prove that we only really done
immersion on the assigned place for us. We finished giving fliers by afternoon second day.

RECOMMENDATION:

Upon experiencing this, I can suggest that we should continue doing this to spread the
importance of this program. It should’nt stop there. Still continue to share to everyone and
apply all those learnings in our personal life. Even in a simple way of showing our concerns in
environment , “if we all do the same,a little way will have a huge impact to us”. The
authorities must provide adequate public waste bins and waste collection processes and
each barangay should organize program/s about proper waste management and give
accurate information in order to develop waste management options toward waste
reduction, reuse , and recycling. Laws and regulation should be improved for proper waste
management practices at local levels and at national levels as the community would be
more willing to practice proper waste separation and recycling once such a regulation is in
place. There must be awareness programs about the laws and regulations. The media,
posters and public notices should be used more in order to increase the awareness in the
community.
