Problems
• Problem 1 Let n, k be positive integers where k is odd.
k−1 k−1
x0 , x1 · · · xn ∈ { , · · · , 2, 1, 0, −1, · · · , − }
2 2
Prove that
n
X
xi · k i
i=0
n+1
can take exactly k distinct integer values.
• Problem 2 Let ABC be a triangle and DEF be its orthic triangle (D is the foot of altitude from A
onto BC and E and F are defined similarly with E on AC and F on AB). The circle ω is tangent
to F D, F E, and the nine-point circle of 4ABC externally (circumcircle of 4DEF ) at P , Q and R
respectively. Prove that CR is a symmedian in triangle CDE 1 .
• Problem 3 Find all points with rational coordinates (α, β) lying on the ellipse
x2 y2 1
2
+ 2
=
a b 4n − 1
(a, b, n are integers and α, β are rational numbers)
• Problem 4 A corner is a shape obtained by deleting one of the squares of a 2 ∗ 2 grid.
i) Prove that every square grid of side 5 · 2n with the corner square removed can be covered by corners .
ii) Consider a square grid of side 5 · 2n . Starting with player A, A and B mark out a total of k squares
(playing alternately) on this grid. After doing this, they try to place the corners on the board excluding
the marked squares and without a corner overlapping another.
A wins if some placement of corners leaves less than three squares uncovered other than the marked
ones, otherwise B wins. Find the minimum value of k for which B has a winning strategy.
• Problem 5 Let a, b, c be positive real numbers such that a + b + c = 5 and abc = ab + c. Prove that
3
a3 + b3 + c3 ≥ (3 + 4c)
5
• Problem 6 A person chooses some (not none) numbers out of 1, 2, 3, · · · , n. Find the probability that
all the chosen numbers are greater than the number of chosen numbers.
