1. Technical Particulars:

Note: Motor shall be capable of delivering rated output with the terminal voltage differing from its
rated value by ±10% as per “A TASK FORCE REPORT” FOR ‘ZERO’ HV MOTOR FAILURE IN
TATA STEEL”

1.13 Insulation Class: Motor insulation class shall be minimum Class-F and the
temperature rise of the motor shall be limited to class-B. The temperature rise shall be
maximum 70 deg C (measured by RTD/Resistance method whichever is more).
Ambient shall be 50 deg C.
1.14 Enclosure:
(e.g. IP-55/IP-56 etc. as per IS:4691-1985)

Note-1: The methods of cooling of motors and their designations shall be in


accordance with IS:6362: 1995 e.g. IC411/IC416 for totally enclosed fan cooled.

1.24 Mention the basic dimension (H, B, A, C, E, D, GE, & F letter symbols confirm to
IS: 8223-1999) from drawing of existing motor.
1.25 All the HV motor shall have BTD and the RTD (Min 2 per phase) temperature
detector along with the Temperature Analyzers.
1.26 Locked rotor current of the motors shall not exceed the following values which are
inclusive of 20% tolerance (TCE M4-203-02 Cluase-2.5):
a) 600% of Full Load current for motors up to and including 1500kW.
b) 450% of the full load current for motors above 1500kW
1.27 Motors shall be capable of starting and accelerating the load with the applicable
method of starting, without exceeding the acceptable winding temperature, when the
supply voltage is 80% of the rated voltage.
1.28 Motors shall be capable of satisfactory operation at full load at supply voltage of
80% of the rated voltage for 5 minutes commencing from hot condition.
1.29 Motors shall be capable of developing the rated full load torque even if the supply
voltage drops to 70% of the rated voltage. If such operation is envisaged for a period of
one second, the pull out torque of the motor to meet this requirement, shall be at least
205% of the Full load torque.
1.30 The motor shall have replaceable space heater suitable for 240V single phase 50
Hz AC supply. Space heaters shall have adequate capacity to maintain internal
temperature.
1.31 Motor shall be designed for the three consecutive cold starts and two consecutive
hot starts. (IPSS: 1-03-018-95 clause-5.3.2)
1.32 Party shall submit the following Details:
a. Maximum Noise level.
b. Efficiency of the Motor at 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% load.
1.33 Party shall supply Operating and maintenance manual 2 copies and in soft copy
also. The manual shall be specific to the motor and not the general one. The manual
shall mention the inspection and maintenance schedule and all the Technical details of
the Various accessories like Heaters, RTDs, and BTDs etc.

Clause number 2, 3, 4 and 5 are to be mentioned in Additional UMC text.

2. Construction Particulars:
2.1 One bearing shall be insulated to prevent shaft currents. Maximum permitted
Shaft voltage shall be 250mV to limit the shaft current (IPSS: 1-03-018-95 clause-
6.5.5)
2.2 Motors shall have the drain plugs so located that they will drain water resulting
from condensation or other causes from all the pockets of the motor.
2.3 Flow switches / Flow meter shall be provided for monitoring cooling water flow if
CACW (Closed Air cooling water) motors
2.4 Terminal Box: Separate terminal boxes shall be provided for each of the
following:--

a) Stator Leads
b) Space heaters
c) Temperature detectors (winding/Bearing/air)

Note: Mention the Location of Terminal boxes to be specified as per existing


Motor.

2.5 Motor shall have 2 terminal boxes one for phase terminals and another for
neutral, centrally located on either side of the motor for bringing out leads on
either side. The main and neutral terminal boards and boxes shall be of robust
design made of either cast steel or of fabricated construction. The neutral
terminal box and main terminal box shall be interchangeable and detachable. The
terminal box shall be suitable for cable entry from bottom. It shall, be possible to
rotate the terminal box by 180 degrees at site to make it suitable for top cable
entry, if required.
2.6 Phase Segregated terminal box shall be used. The entire terminal box shall be
designed to withstand the mechanical stress of a high fault current
commensurate with the voltage. The terminal box' shall have provision for
release of gases generated during faults.
2.7 The three phases shall be segregated by metal barriers within the terminal box.
2.8 Stator leads shall be brought to the terminal box as insulated cable through a
suitable barrier and supports in cable route. There shall not be any sharp edges
in the route of the lead cable.
2.9 The end shields shall have suitable jacking holes for facilitating easy removal.

2.10 Threaded Jacking holes to be provided for jacking up for insertion or removal of
shims for facilitating alignment with the driven equipment. (IPSS: 1-03-018-95
clause-6.3.1)
2.11 Re-greasing of bearings during motor operation shall be possible from, outside
without removal or dismantling of any part. An out-let for old grease shall be
provided at the Bottom preferably with draw able receptacle arrangement.
Suitable means to be provided for preventing the entry of grease into the
winding.
2.12 It is desirable to have an oil injection system for removal of antifriction
bearings to prevent damage to bearing seating.

2.13 It is desirable to have provision for fixing vibration monitoring sensors on the
bearings. (IPSS: 1-03-018-95 clause-6.5.6)
2.14 The cooling hood of the motor should be detachable without disturbing the
terminal boxes.

3. Characteristic Curve: Motors shall be supplied with the following characteristics


curves:-

a) Torque speed curve


b) Thermal capability curve Hot/cold
c) Load Vs Efficiency curves
d) Current Vs speed curve
e) Negative phase sequence withstand curve.
f) G A (General Arrangement drawing) of the motor

4. Routine Test:
The following routine test shall be carried out at manufacturer side and all
certificate to be supplied along with motor as per IS 325:1996 clause 22.3.2
4.1 Insulation resistance test
4.2 Measurement of resistance of windings of stator and wound rotor
4.3 No load test
4.4 Locked rotor readings of voltage, current and power input at a suitable
reduced voltage
4.5 Reduced voltage running up test (for squirrel cage motors)
4.6 Open circuit voltage ratio of stator and rotor windings (for slip ring motors)
4.7 High voltage test
4.8 P.I. Test
4.9 Tan Delta Test

5. Marking:
A legible and indelibly marked rating plate of Stainless Steel shall be provided
giving the following information:

1. Type and frame size


2. Capacity in kW at 50 degC ambient temperature
3. Serial number
4. Voltage
5. Current
6. Frequency
7. RPM
8. Number of rotor bars & Stator slots
9. winding connection
10. Weight of motor in kg
