SPACE X:

Discussion:
Space-X designs, manufactures and launches advanced rockets
and spacecraft. The company was founded in 2002 to
revolutionize space technology, with the ultimate goal of
enabling people to live on other planets.

Space-X's achievements include the first privately funded liquid-propellant rocket to

reach orbit (Falcon 1 in 2008); the first privately funded company to successfully launch,
orbit, and recover a spacecraft. The first propulsive landing for an orbital rocket (Falcon 9
in 2015); and the first reuse of an orbital rocket (Falcon 9 in 2017). As of March 2017,
Space-X has flown ten missions to the International Space Station (ISS) under a cargo re-
supply contract. NASA also awarded Space-X a further development contract in 2011 to
develop and demonstrate a human-rated Dragon, which would be used to transport
astronauts to the ISS and return them safely to Earth.

Space-X has gained worldwide attention for a series of historic milestones. It is the only
private company ever to return a spacecraft from low-Earth orbit, which it first
accomplished in December 2010. The company made history again in May 2012 when its
Dragon spacecraft delivered cargo to and from the International Space Station.

Space-X announced in 2011 that they were beginning a privately funded reusable launch
system technology development program. In December 2015, a first stage was flown
back to a landing pad near the launch site, where it successfully accomplished a
propulsive vertical landing. This was the first such achievement by a rocket for orbital
spaceflight.

A challenging feat previously accomplished only by governments. Since then Dragon has
delivered cargo to and from the space station multiple times, providing regular cargo
Space-X missions for NASA. Space-X offers competitive pricing for its Falcon 9 and
Falcon Heavy launch services. Modest discounts are available, for contractually
committed, multi-launch purchases. Space-X can also offer crew transportation services
to commercial customers seeking to transport astronauts to alternate LEO destinations.
Space-X successfully vertically landed a first stage on an ocean drone-ship landing
platform. In May 2016, in another first, Space-X again landed a first stage, but during a
significantly more energetic geostationary transfer orbit mission. In March 2017, Space-
X became the first to successfully re-launch and land the first stage of an orbital rocket.

A major goal of Space-X has been to develop a rapidly reusable launch system. As of
March 2013, the publicly announced aspects of this technology development effort
include an active test campaign of the low-altitude, low-speed Grasshopper vertical
takeoff, vertical landing (VTVL) technology demonstrator rocket.

In December 2015, Space-X launched an upgraded Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral
Air Force Station into Low Earth orbit, on a mission designated Flight 20. After
completing its primary burn, the first stage of the multistage rocket detached from the
second stage as usual. The first stage then fired three of its engines to send it back to
Cape Canaveral, where it achieved the world's first successful landing of a rocket that
was used for an orbital launch.

Conclusion:
Space-X is actively pursuing several different research and development programs. Most
notable are the programs intended to develop reusable launch vehicles, an interplanetary
transport system, and a global telecommunications network. Space-X has on occasion
developed new engineering development technologies to enable it to pursue its various
goals.

ELON MUSK:

Discussion:
Elon Musk is a South African-American business magnate, investor, engineer and
inventor. He is the founder, CEO, and lead designer of Space-X; co-founder, CEO, and
product architect of Tesla Inc.; co-chairman of OpenAI; founder and CEO of Neuralink,
and founder of The Boring Company. Musk became a multimillionaire in his late 20s
when he sold his start-up company, Zip2, to a division of Compaq Computers. Musk
made headlines in May 2012, when SpaceX launched a rocket that would send the first
commercial vehicle to the International Space Station.

At age 17, in 1989, Elon Musk moved to Canada to attend Queen’s University and avoid
mandatory service in the South African military. He left in 1992 to study business and
physics at the University of Pennsylvania. He graduated with an undergraduate degree in
economics and stayed for a second bachelor’s degree in physics. After leaving Penn, Elon
Musk headed to Stanford University in California to pursue a PhD in energy physics.

Outside of his roles at SpaceX and Tesla, Musk has continually attempted to make his
innovative ideas a reality. In August 2013, Elon Musk released a concept for a new form
of transportation called the "Hyperloop," an invention that would foster commuting
between major cities while severely cutting travel time. Ideally resistant to weather and
powered by renewable energy, the Hyperloop would propel riders in pods through a
network of low-pressure tubes at speeds reaching more than 700 mph. Musk noted that
the Hyperloop could take from seven to 10 years to be built and ready for use.
Elon Musk is revolutionizing transportation both on earth and in space. Tesla Motors, his
auto manufacturer, is bringing fully-electric vehicles to the mass market. Its Model 3 car
retails for a starting price of $35,000. Space-X, Musk's rocket company, is now valued at
more than $20 billion.

In December 2016, Musk was ranked 21st on the Forbes list of The World's Most
Powerful People. Musk has stated that the goals of Solar City, Tesla, and Space-X
revolve around his vision to change the world and humanity.

Conclusion:
Elon Musk’s plan to sell 20,000 people a $500 flamethrower branded with the name of
his Los Angeles-based tunnel-digging venture, The Boring Company, has hit a roadblock.

With Donald Trump announcing plans to pursue massive infrastructure developments

after his successful election to the U.S. presidency in 2016, Musk found himself on
common ground with the new president and his advisers. That December, he was named
to President Trump’s Strategy and Policy Forum, and the following January he joined
Trump's Manufacturing Jobs Initiative.

The boundless potential of space exploration and the preservation of the future of the
human race have become the cornerstones of Musk's abiding interests, and toward these
he has founded the Musk Foundation, which is dedicated to space exploration and the
discovery of renewable and clean energy sources.

The Dragon:

Discussion:
A dragon is a legendary creature, typically scaled or fire-spewing and with serpentine,
reptilian or avian traits, that features in the myths of many cultures around world. Although
the time that dragons first appeared in myths isn't known for sure, they can be traced back as
far as approximately 4000 B.C. Dragons are said to have been able to live almost anywhere,
depending on the type of dragon mentioned. Their habitats range from the center of the earth
to the middle of the ocean. They could also be found in caves, fire, or anywhere dark and
damp.

Dragons could be used to describe the indescribable bones of unknown creatures. There
are stories about dragons in every part of the world, with the exception of Antarctica.
Even though there are no people in Antarctica, which in that way would seem to make it
attractive to dragons, the climate proposes a problem for these creatures who like fire or
live in water, but not ice water.

Dragons continue to capture the public's imagination in fantasy books and films,
appearing in everything from the kid-friendly 2010 film "How to Train Your Dragon" to
the more adult-oriented "Game of Thrones" books and to "The Hobbit" book and movies.
The popular role-playing game Advanced Dungeons and Dragons describes more than a
dozen varieties of dragons, each with unique personalities, powers, and other
characteristics.
Dragons seem to have come from exaggerated myths about huge snakes, lizards or other
reptiles. One type of dragon is actually called the Wyrm, and has a very snake-like form,
with a dragon head. Another smaller form of dragon is called a dragonlet. These dragons
are also venomous and can be deadly. In the story The Dragonlet of St. Pilatus, only man
with a bad temper and skills with a sword was able to defeat this monster that was only
the height of the hero. In almost every culture and all throughout history there are stories
of these magical creatures called dragons.

Conclusion:

Dragons and dragon motifs are featured in many works of modern literature, particularly
within the fantasy genre. Dragons, in one form or another, have been around for
millennia. Through epic fantasy fiction by J.R.R. Tolkien and others, dragons have
continued to spark our collective imagination. The popular role playing game system
Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) makes heavy use of dragons, and has served as inspiration
for many other games' dragons. Though dragons usually serve as adversaries, they can be
either good or evil, with their alignment being determined by their species. For example,
a red dragon is evil and breathes fire while a silver dragon is good and breathes cold.

Dragons have also been prevalent in other forms of media such as movies, TV shows,
and video games. These forms of media have a large reach on the society making the
modern depiction of the dragon more widespread. In these movies and others that contain
dragons, dragons are major participants in the plot and character development.

MAKING LIFE MULTI-PLANETARY:

Discussion:
The future is vastly more exciting and interesting if we’re a space faring civilization and
a multi-planet species than if we’re not. You want to be inspired by things, you want to
wake up in the morning you think the future is going to be great, and that’s what being a
space faring civilization is all about. Believing in the future and thinking that the future
would better than in the past and I can’t think of anything more exciting than going out
there and being among the stars.

The project, named the Interplanetary Transport System (ITS), will be designed to
establish a population on Mars by employing a fully reusable transportation system that
will slash the cost of regular spaceflight. Musk expressed his view that the colonisation of
Mars is achievable, believing that given an initial manned trip of 10 people, it will take
“40 to 100 years to achieve a fully self-sustaining civilisation” on the planet, with a
million expected there within 40 years. The carbon fibre space crafts of the ITS will have
a thrust power of 13000 tons, a lifespan of 30 years and use methane and oxygen,
refuelled in orbit or upon landing on Mars and back on Earth.
For Musk, the chance to go to Mars represents the chance to save human life. He believes
that the future will deviate along two paths: one in which an event hastens the extinction
of Homo sapiens on Earth, and one in which humans can become “a space-faring
civilization and a multi-planetary species.” Elon Musk said that the most important item
to communicate in this updated presentation is that Space-X now has a plan that can
actually be funded.

SpaceX’s goal of interplanetary travel and settlement require an unprecedented rate of

launches. A moon base or mars base will require thousands of launches. If that sounds
like fantasy, please note that SpaceX’s launches are growing at an exponential rate.
Around 60 launches are performed globally per year.

Conclusion:
The plan is for a 2022 cargo-only mission to Mars Space-X has already started building
the system. The tooling for main tanks has been ordered, and the facility is being built.
The construction of the first ship will begin in 6-9 months. “I feel fairly confident that we
can complete the ship and be ready to launch in about 5 years, 5 years seems like a long
time to me.” This first mission, in 2022 will be 2 ships. The goal is to find best sources of
water. The second mission, in 2024 will have 4 ships. 2 crew, 2 cargo. The goal is to
build the propellant plant and propellant depot.

Five years seems like a long time to me. The area under the curve of resources over that
period of time should enable this time frame to be met, but if not this time frame, I think
pretty soon thereafter. But that is our goal, to try to make the 2022 Mars rendezvous. The
Earth-Mars synchronization happens roughly every two years, so every two years there is
an opportunity to fly to Mars. Then in 2024 we want to try to fly four ships—two cargo
and two crew. The goal of the first mission is to find the best source of water, and for the
second mission, the goal is to build the propellant plant.
