IMAGE PROCESSING

Digital Image Processing is a rapidly evolving field with growing applications in Science
and Engineering. Modern digital technology has made it possible to manipulate multi-
dimensional signals. Digital Image Processing has a broad spectrum of applications.
They include remote sensing data via satellite, medical image processing, radar, sonar

and acoustic image processing and robotics.

APPLICATIONS OF IMAGE PROCESSING:

Applications of image processing include several fields such as:-

1. Remote sensing 2. Pictorial database 3. Radiology 4. Graphics design

5. High energy physics 6. Photo editing 7. Character recognition

8. Finger print matching 9. Cytology 10. Defense applications 11. Metallurgy

During an image processing operation the input given is an image and its output is
an enhanced high quality image as per the techniques used. Image processing usually
referred as digital image processing, but optical and analog image processing also are
possible.

The main aim of image processing is to extract important data from images. Using this
extracted information description, interpretation and understanding of the
scene can be provided by the machine. In other words, image processing is called as
altering and analyzing pictorial information of images. In our daily life we come across
different type of image processing. Best example of image processing in our daily
life is our brain sensing lot of images when we see images with eyes and
processing is done is very less time.
