This order of blessing is for the construction of a building. It includes introductory rites with prayers and songs of praise. A reading from Paul's first letter to the Corinthians about building on the foundation of Jesus Christ is read. Intercessions are offered for God's blessing and protection on the construction. ORDER OF BLESSING

Introductory Rites
When the assembly has gathered at the construction site, a suitable song may be sung.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
All make the sign of the cross and reply:

Amen.
The celebrant greets those present in the following or other suitable words, taken mainly from sacred Scripture.

May the grace and peace of God our Father, the source of all blessings,
be with you all.
All make the following or some other suitable reply.

And also with you.

In keeping with local custom, representatives of those in charge of the construction may then make some
introductory remarks about the work.

In the following or similar words, the celebrant prepares those present for the blessing.

The work we are beginning today should enliven our faith and make us
grateful. We know the familiar words of the psalm: “If the Lord does not
build the house, in the vain do its builders labor.” Whenever we look to
the interests of our neighbor or the community and serve them, we are,
in a sense, God’s own co-workers. Let us pray for his help through
celebration, my brothers and sisters, that God will bring this
construction to successful completion and that his protection will keep
those who work on it safe from injury.
READING OF THE WORD OF GOD
A reader, another person present, or the celebrant reads a text of sacred Scripture.

Brothers and sisters, listen to the words of the first letter of Paul to the
Corinthians:
For we are both God’s workers. And you are God’s field. You are God’s
building. Because of God’s grace to me, I have laid the foundation like an
expert builder. Now others are building on it. But whoever is building on
this foundation must be very careful. For no one can lay any foundation
other than the one we already have Jesus Christ.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM
R: Our help is in the name of the Lord.
- I lift up my eyes toward the mountains;
whence shall help come to me?
My help is from the LORD,
who made heaven and earth. R

- May he not suffer your foot to slip;

may he slumber not who guards you:
Indeed he neither slumbers nor sleeps,
the guardian of Israel. R

- The LORD is your guardian; the LORD is your shade;

he is beside you at your right hand.
The sun shall not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night. R

- The LORD will guard you from all evil;

he will guard your life.
The lord will guard your coming and your going,
both now and forever. R
INTERCESSIONS
The intercessions are then said. The celebrant introduces them and an assisting minister or one of those present
announces the intentions. From the following intentions those best suited to the occasion may be used or adapted, or
other intentions that apply to the particular circumstances may be composed

The celebrant says:

Brothers and sisters, let us ask God, our all-powerful Father, that the work we begin today will contribute to the
building up of his kingdom and join us in faith and love to Christ, who is the cornerstone.

R. Blessed be God forever.

Assisting minister:
-Lord God, you have given us the knowledge and power to become your co-
workers. (Let us bless the Lord:) R.
-Through the Spirit of your Son you form us into a spiritual house where
you make your dwelling place. (Let us bless the Lord:) R.
-You inspire in us the firm hope that the building we begin today with your
blessing will be brought to completion with your protection. (Let us bless
the Lord:) R.
-With much labor you shape and polish us into living stones until you
make us worthy to be built up into a new and holy Jerusalem. (Let us
bless the Lord:) R.
PRAYER OF BLESSING
With hands outstretched, the celebrant continues with the prayer of blessing.

All-powerful and all-merciful Father, you have created all things

through your Son and have made him the unshakable foundation of your
kingdom. Through the gift of your eternal wisdom, grant that the
undertaking we begin today for your glory and our own well-being may
progress day by day to its successful completion.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
R. Amen
CONCLUDING RITE
With hands outstretched over those present, the celebrant concludes the rite by saying.

May the Lord almighty bless you and kindly receive the desires of your
hearts
R. Amen
May the Lord give you trust in him, so that you will do all things in his
name.
R. Amen
May the Lord regard your work with kindness and watch over your
lives.
R. Amen
