    Rivers Alive is Georgia's annual waterway cleanup event that occurred in October and targeted all waterways in the state. In 2002, there were over 130 registered events with 16,000 volunteers contributing over 61,000 hours and collecting over 300,000 pounds of garbage from 780 miles of waterways. Since 1998, Rivers Alive has involved over 60,000 volunteers who have collected a total of 374 tons of garbage from Georgia's waterways.
