ASHTAKVARGA
(SYSTEM OF PREDICTION)

There are numerous techniques in Vedic Astrology. By mastering some of them, one can
become a competent astrologer. One such technique which has remained dormant for a long
time and is not practiced by the astrologers to their own disadvantage is the ancient technique of
Ashtakavarga. Sages like 'Maharshi Parashara' and later astrological geniuses such as
Varahamihira have extolled the virtues of this technique in glowing terms.
What is interesting from the present day computer-age point of view is that this system of
Ashtakavarga is binary in character and hence quite amenable to computerization.
Ashtakvarga is not a stand alone technique, but it has a say in almost every situation. For
successful predictions we must see the promise in the horoscope and the dasha/transit in which
the promise would fructify. Ashtakavarga has a say in all three, in evaluating the promise
properly, in deciphering the dasha judiciously, and pinpointing the transit accurately.
Its methods of application and interpretation which are found in the existing works are
not exhaustive and not thorough enough for students to understand which is a serious deficiency
in the outfit of the modern astrologer. We tried to fill the gap between ancient and modern
astrological techniques by this workshop on practical application of Ashtakvarga during which we
concentrate upon:

•!• calculation and use of Rashi Pinda, Graha Pinda & Shodya Pinda.
•!• Predictive techniques of Ashtakvarga for various life events like marriage, child birth,

Applications of Sarvashtakvarga
Any house associated with more than 30 bindus giVes auspicious results. Higher the
better the results.
Any House having 24 to 30 bindus is considered average result giving.
Any House associated with less than 24 bindus give inauspicious results.
Any House associated with 20 or less bind us will give very poor results.
The planet becomes ineffective if it is associated with 20 or less bindus e
