Catholic Bible

1. It’ll help make us know ourselves better. The Bible is not about us, but it does tell us about
ourselves. When we seek to know God through his Word, only then do we have an accurate
picture of who we are as weak, needy, once-dead sinners who were spared by God’s mercy,
rescued by his grace, and raised to new life through his Son’s work and his Spirit’s power.

2. It’ll build an eternally-significant habit. To read the entire Bible is to exercise intention and use
self-discipline. For some, this means a daily or twice-daily private reading; for others, it means
integrating this into family worship; for yet others, reading the whole Word could be a vision for a
small group No matter the tactic, by consistently reading God’s Word, we are developing an
eternally-impactive habit for nourishing our soul, renewing your mind, and preaching the truth to
the soul.

1. The Bible is morally inconsistent. God gave commands to men in the Old Testament, such as: kill
adulterers, homosexuals, and "people who work on the Sabbath" (Leviticus 20:10; Leviticus 20:13;
Exodus 35:2, respectively); to commit ethnic cleansing (Exodus 34:11-14, Leviticus 26:7-9);
commit genocide (Numbers 21: 2-3, Numbers 21:33–35, Deuteronomy 2:26–35, and Joshua 1–12);
and other mass killings. There are a lot of examples to illustrate what we consider as "God's
moral character": "Routinely punishes people for the sins of others ... punishes all mothers by
condemning them to painful childbirth", punishes four generations of descendants of those who
worship other gods, kills 24,000 Israelites because some of them sinned (Numbers 25:1–9), kills
70,000 Israelites for the sin of David in 2 Samuel 24:10–15, and "sends two bears out of the woods
to tear forty-two children to pieces" because they called someone names in 2 Kings 2:23–24.

2. Translation of scripture into English is also a subject of debate and criticism. For readability,
clarity, or other reasons, translators may choose different wording or sentence structure, and
some translations may choose to paraphrase passages. Because many of the words in the original
language have ambiguous or difficult to translate meanings, debates over correct interpretation
occur. There can be a lot of discrepancies that may be due to the way the text is translated.
King James Bible

1. Free from Modernist Bias. The KJV was not influenced by liberal theology, evolutionism,
political-correctness, and ecumenicalism. Today, niche translations are published left and right
to satisfy various theological and social agendas.

2. The King James Bible is a very poetic book. The obvious poetic books are Job, Psalms, Proverbs,
Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon. But even the Old Testament prophecies and Revelation are
full of poetic features such as rich imageries, parallelisms, hyperboles, and similes. The books of
the Pentateuch are also ripe with poetry, according to Everett Fox, the author of The Five Books
of Moses.

1. The primary function of any translation is to render the original in the language of the reader,
and, for good or ill, Jacobean English is no longer the standard language of any English-speaking
culture, and the continuing changes in English usage must increasingly make the King James
more difficult to understand and in some cases actually misleading.

2. The search for the most accurate text possible has over the years rendered the King James a less
than ideal translation. None of the three most significant manuscripts of the Bible (Codices
Vaticanus, Sinaiticus, or Alexandrinus) were available to the King James translators. In fact they
could have had access to no more than 25 rather late manuscripts, and there is little evidence
they used them. Today we know of well over 5,500 manuscripts and fragments of the New
Testament, some dating back to the second century AD.

Torah

1. The Torah will guide and keep readers on the path of righteousness and lead them into YHVH’s
everlasting kingdom and spiritual divine family. It acts as a protective guardrail to keep them on
the road leading to eternal life. It keeps man from falling into the spiritual ditches or off the
spiritual cliff along the side of the road of life.

2. Obeying the Torah helps us to stay spiritually pure (1 John 3:3–6) and protects us from the
influence of the devil (1 John 3:8).

1. There are multiple discrepancies found in the text of Torah. According to the text of the Hebrew
Torah, from the creation of Adam until Noah's flood the elapsed time is recorded as one thousand
six hundred and fifty-six years, while in the Greek Torah the interval is given as two thousand
two hundred and sixty-two years, and in the Samaritan text, the same period is said to have
lasted one thousand three hundred and seven years.

2. The Torah text may not be as accurate as the original text due to difficulty in translation. Some
words may have been replaced with another which changes the entirety of the conveyed message.
Some translators may also paraphrased multiple chunks of text which strays away from the
original message or might remove the intended message all together.

New American Bible

1. Uses the best manuscript-translating traditions available in order to translate more literally and
accurately than previous translations.

2. Aims to utilize modern scholastic advances in biblical study and adapt to changes in linguistics
in order to render a more accurate translation in contemporary English.

1. The problem of marked literary peculiarities had to be met. What by any Western standard are
the limited vocabularies and stylistic infelicities of the evangelists cannot be retained in the exact
form in which they appear in the originals without displeasing the modern ear.

2. The Bible has the disadvantages of more or less radically abandoning traditional biblical and
liturgical terminology and phraseology, of expanding the text to include what more properly
belongs in notes, commentaries, or preaching, and of tending toward paraphrase.
