    “Amina” by Shirley Saad is a story about a couple husband and wife that are trying to
    get a son. Amina getting pressure from Hamid’s family pushed to have a son. However, Hamid
    always give support and never give up on his wife. Amina and Hamid is still hope that they
    will be have a son.

    Amina feel distracted and worried that she gave birth another girl again. Amina asked,
    not daring to hope, “Is it a boy or a girl?” (Saad, 1992:203) and the nurse says a girl. However,
    when the English nurse said that the baby is girl, Amina feel dissapointed. She did not care
    how the baby was. She afraid that her husband will divorce her and he will be marry again
    because Amina could not gave birth a son.

    Amina feel this way when she was shock after knows that the baby is girl. This can be
    inferred from “She had brought four girls into the world, four girls in six year of marriage.”
    (Saad, 1992:203) Amina felt ashamed to Hamid’s extended family because she had not been
    able to give birth to a baby boy in her family for six years of marriage. She was dissapointed
    and she felt she had failed to become a good wife of Hamid, even though they are still young
    and still can try anytime. Hamid family was expecting a baby boy from Amina, but its not
    really happened.

    The woman around Amina think that Amina failed to become a good wife for Hamid.
    The sisters-in-law gave congratulation “Mabruk” (Saad, 1992:204) to Amina, moreover they
    don’t really feel happy in fact. The sisters-in-law hopefully can get the fortune of Hamid in
    the future, because they had boys. This is can be inferred from the text “The sisters-in-law were
    secretly jubilant, because they had boys.” The sisters-in-law feel happy on Amina’s sorrow,
    however the sisters-in-law will get half of Hamid’s fortune, social status, and politic status in
    the future. On the other hand, Amina feel guilty to Hamid’s family because haven’t yet birth a
    son in several years. Moreover, Hamid is good husband. Hamid didn’t choose to leave his wife
    and trying to calm Amina and face their own family problem together with Amina.

    The text represent about women deserve to be a mother and can be reverence higly
    regarded if they had a son. It can referred from the text “well, mother of my children, we will
    just have to try again. Won’t we?” (Saad, 1992:205) this text represent a woman is a child
    bearing and child rearing. Amina is stronger people to get of any pressure of anything. We can
    see when Amina gave a birth a baby, noone asking or caring about her condition and whats the
    matter with her feelings. She just need sopport and having back of her when she is struggling.
