To Kill a Mockingbird
Field Trip - Wednesday, April 22, 2020
On Wednesday, April 22, 2020, 9th grade students have the opportunity to attend an afternoon
performance of To Kill a Mockingbird.
All 9th grade students will read Harper Lee’s timeless classic To Kill a Mockingbird in the spring. This is
a wonderful opportunity to pair our class experience reading the novel with a live performance on
Broadway. We have received discounted student rates for tickets, and the cost of the trip is only $45.
“The world premiere of Academy Award winner Aaron Sorkin’s new play, Harper Lee’s To Kill a
Mockingbird, d irected by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher (Oslo, The King and I), comes to Broadway
in a production starring [Ed Harris], Celia Keenan-Bolger, Will Pullen, and Gbenga Akinnagbe. Published
in 1960, Harper Lee’s debut novel To Kill a Mockingbird was an immediate and astonishing success.
Now, for the first time ever, Harper Lee’s open-hearted dissection of justice and tolerance in the
American South will be brought vividly to life on the Broadway stage” (PlayBill).
We will be leaving Wednesday morning after 4th period. We will be eating lunch on the bus, so students
will be required to bring a bag lunch. The play is at 1:00, and we should be home by 6:00pm, depending
on traffic.
Though we recognize that April 22nd is many months away, we must secure our tickets now before they
are sold out. Your son or daughter must give his/her 9th grade teacher the signed permission slip and a
check made out to The Wheatley School for $45 no later than Friday, October 4th.
We encourage all students to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity. Please supply the check and
signed permission slip by the above deadline.
Thank you.
