Q. 1 Select and write the most appropriate answer from the given alternatives in each of the
following sub-questions: (04)

1) If the vectors −3ˆi+4ˆj−2kˆ, ˆi+2kˆ, ˆi−pˆj are coplanar, then the value of p is

(A) − 2 (B) 1 (C) −1 (D) 2

2) If p is false and q is true, then

(A) p ^ q is true (B) p v ~q is true (C) q → p is true (D) p → q is true

3) The angle between the lines 3x2 + 7xy + 2y2 + 5x + 5y + 2 = 0 is given by

(A) 0 (B) π/2 (C ) π/4 (D ) π/6

4) lim [log( ex) ]1/ log x

x→1

(A) 1 – e (B) e2 (C) e (D) 0

Q 2 Attempt any Four of the following: (08)

1) Write the converse and contrapositive of the statement-

“If two triangles are congruent then their areas are equal.”

2) Discuss the continuity of following function

f(x) = x-1 for 1 ≤ x <2

= 2x+3 for 2 ≤ x ≤ 3 at x=2

3) Find ‘k’, if the equation kxy + 10x + 6y + 4 = 0 represents a pair of straight lines.

4) By vector method prove that the medians of a triangle are concurrent

Or
4) Prove that the volume of a parallelopiped with coterminal edges as a- , b- , c- is [a- b- c-] .
Q -3 A) Attempt any Four of the following: (12)

1) If A, B, C, D are (1, 1, 1), (2, 1, 3), (3, 2, 2), (3, 3, 4) respectively, then find the volume of
the parallelopiped with AB, AC and AD as the concurrent edges..

2) If f(x) = [tan ((π/4)+x)]1/x for x ≠ 0

= k, for x = 0
is continuous s at x = 0 , find k.

3) If point C( c ) divides the segment joining the points A( a ) and B ( b ) internally in the ratio
m : n, then prove that c =( mb + na) / m + n

4) Find k, if one of the lines given by 6x2 + kxy + y2 = 0 is 2x + y = 0.

OR

Q 4 Attempt any Four of the following: (16)

1) if f(x) is continuous on[-4,2], defined as

f(x ) = 6b-3ax, for -4 ≤ x < -2

= 4x+1, for -2 ≤ x ≤ 2,

Find the value of a+b.

2) Construct the switching circuit for the following statement:

[p v (~p ^ q)] v [(~q ^ r) v ~p]

3) Express the following equations in the matrix form and solve them by the method of
reduction:

4) The cost of 4 dozen pencils, 3 dozen pens and 2 dozen erasers is ` 60. The cost of 2 dozen
pencils, 4 dozen pens and 6 dozen erasers is ` 90 whereas the cost of 6 dozen pencils, 2 dozen
pens and 3 dozen erasers is ` 70. Find the cost of each item per dozen by using matrices.

OR
The sum of three numbers is 9. If we multiply third number by 3 and add to the second number, we
get 16. By adding the first and the third number and then subtracting twice the second number
from this sum, we get 6. Use this information and find the system of linear equations. Hence, find
the three numbers using matrices.
