Reaction Paper on the movie: Seven Sundays

One's family is the most important thing that anyone has. One of the biggest secrets in
life that many do not know is that much of our inner wellness and satisfaction comes from the
family. The relationship amongst the family members is key in each person’s life. Although a
healthy relationship is often the ultimate goal, a family can face obstacles that causes conflict. This
is one relationship that most families have as they struggle with differences, such as, passions,
ambitions, morals, beliefs, and so on. Sadly, these differences can make or break a family and in
most cases the relationship becomes and remains broken.
Seven Sundays is a heartwarming family story. I`ve learned a lot from this movie
especially on how strong a love of a family can be, that no matter how many circumstances or
problems that came into your lives trying to break that strong connection you have with each other
, nothing is strong enough to break it because at the end of the day you will still go back into each
others arms .They are the people whom you wanted to spend your life with, even until your last
breath. Different emotions was felt upon watching the movie. I felt sad because I realized that no
matter what you do or what you sacrifice for the sake of you family`s happiness , there are times
that you still might hurt them. Just like in the movie , we also have some conflicts in the family
but we are more stronger than that.
The story begins when Manuel announces to his children that he is going to die soon..
When they found out their father's condition, the siblings decided that they should spend time
with one another on Sundays. Even though, they have their own problems and differences, they
are determine to do this for their father. Everything goes well when they spend Sundays with their
father. As they spend extra time, they get to recognize each other again. Each has
his/her personal issues which are unknown to the different sibling. The eldest son, Allan, and
the 2nd son, Brian have a speak about Brian's troubles. One day, the father receives a name from
his medical doctor pointing out that he made a wrong diagnosis. The father does no longer
disclose this to his kids until the truth is discovered out by the eldest son. They discuss and the
father explains why he is determined no longer to inform the truth. The eldest son, Allan,
expresses his emotions about the entire scenario and convinces the father to divulge the fact in
their next get-together. At the beginning of the get-together, the youngest son, Dex, finds out
about his sister's marital problems. The total household also finds out about Dex's troubles and
have a war of words with Brian. Cha's issues are added out in the open, too. In the manner of all
the confrontation, their father's real situation is published and this surprises Brian and Cha. This
creates an trade of painful phrases in opposition to the siblings and unearthing of past pains.
After a couple of days, Allan apologizes to Brian and they patch matters up. They both take
the threat to make an apology to Dex, as well. All three go to Cha's house to go to her.
and check her situation. All 4 meet their father at their mother's grave and they talk to their dad
about how they respect his sacrifices for the family. They work out
their issues and unravel hurt emotions.
It is a Single Parent Family. I can say that the communication pattern within the family
is concensual. During their family gatherings , each member only talk when it`s needed and they
never hesitate to tell what their opinions are , however the decisions were always made by the
father in the end. They love to reminisce about their good memories in the past which causes
them to have an intimate communication within them. In the developmental stage of the family,
the family is at the last stages (finishing ) as endings / retirement years for the father. In the family
, Albert who is the eldest was more like the “manager” role because most of the time he is the one
who take the responsibilities in the family just like running their business. Bryan seemed like the
“ hero” role because among all his siblings he is the most successful one. Cha was the “savior” of
the family since she takes good care to her siblings and she is the one who connects each one of
them every time they have misunderstandings. Lastly, Dexter is the “negotiator” because in every
fight they have, he is the one who talks to the both sides.
In the movie I identify myself as Cha because aside from being a girl , I also grow up having
a family who is very protective to me and who are also interested to know the people I am with
everyday. Hence, it is truly a good movie to watch for family bondings since it is very touching
and funny at the same time. The movie have memorable characters because they are very relatable
and every situations or scenes that were shown are realistic. An inspiring movie to watch ended.
