Task 1: Have students think about a familiar story, like ‘The Aged Mother’. Display the Elements of a

Elements of a Short Story

3. Plot- is the sequence of events n a story or play
A. Exposition/Introduction- the setting and the Characters are revealed.
b. Rising Action-where the events in the story become complicated.
c. Climax-is the turning point of the story and the highest point of interest.
d. Falling Action-the problems and complications begin to be resolved.
e. Denouement-this is the final outcome or untangling of events in the story.
4.Conflict-is the opposition of forces which ties one incident to another and makes the plot move.
a. External- outside forces that may cause conflict
b. Internal- struggles with in oneself
5. Point of View-the angle from which the story is told.

Task 2: Sort It Out!
Direction: Cut out cards of the element of the story and sort it out with the events on the separated
cards. Read the cards and match it to character, setting, conflict and solution.
