SAP RFC Connection Troubleshooting

This document provides steps to check the connection between a SAP BW system and a SAP source system. It details checking the logical system names in both systems, verifying the entries in the RSBASIDOC table, examining the RFC destinations in both systems, and checking the partner definitions.

How to check a BW - SAP SAPI source system connection

Created by Janette Koppensteiner, last modified on Jul 20, 2018

Procedure
Before any further checks are performed the following notes must be applied:

To BW: 2290149 - New function for reading SAP release

To Source system: 2289603 - New function for reading release

1. Determine the logical system name of the BW and the SAP source system
table: T000 => Field LOGSYS of the client you are checking

e.g. BW system

MANDT MTEXT ..... LOGSYS

500 BW productive client BW_PROD

e.g. SAP Source System

MANDT MTEXT LOGSYS

999 Source System productive client SRC_PROD

BW source system connection works with the logical system name and therefore a logical system name for the appropriate client is mandatory (BW and source system)

2. Check if the BW has a connection to the SAP sourcesystem and vice versa
table RSBASIDOC‘ => Field SLOGSYS contains the logical system name of the source system and field RLOGSYS of the BW system You should find the same record in both systems

e.g. in BW system

SLOGSYS RLOGSYS BIDOCTYP TSPREFIX SRCTYPE

SRC_PROD BW_PROD generated part of the generated BIDOCTYP 3

In case there is no entry in table RSBASIDOC in the source system and the generated prefix (TSPREFIX) is not used for a different connection, you can restore the connection in BW in case the RFC
connection to the source system is ok (see point 4)

Restoring means that the system will create missing entries in the BW and Source system Usefule information and what has to be considered: here
Procedure: RSA1 --> Modeling --> Source Systems --> appropriate sourcesystem --> context menu --> restore

If the prefix is used for a different connection, KBA 2007371 can be useful

3. Check the RFC destination in the SAP sourcesystem:

On the SAP sourcesystem the RFC-Destination has the same name as the logical system name of the BW system.

SAP sourcesystem: transaction SM59 -> Double click on the destination

Compare the hostname to the sever name of the BW system (transaction SM51)

Check the RFC logon data: Menupath -> Test -> Authorization. The authorization check will only check if the user is available and if the password is correct in the target system.

Check if the update user in the BW system has the authorization profile ‘S_BI-WHM_RFC’ (SAP Note 150315)

4. Check the RFC destination in the BW system:

On the BW system you can get the name of the SAP sourcesystem RFC-Destination by table RSLOGSYSDEST. If there isn‘t an entry for the source system, the name is the logical system name of the
SAP sourcesystem

BW system: transaction SM59 -> Double click on the destination

Compare the hostname to the sever name of the SAP sourcesystem (transaction SM51)

Check the RFC logon data: Menupath -> Test -> Authorization. The authorization check will only check if the user is available and if the password is correct in the target system.

Check if the user in the source system has the authorization profile ‘S_BI-WX_RFC’ (SAP Note 150315)

5. Check the partner definitions:

Check the parameter setting in transaction WE20 in both systems.

BW system:

search for the logical system name of the partner system

Outbound Parameter: RSRQST -> double click -> receiver port -> double click -> RFC destination -> make sure that this RFC points to the correct source system in transction SM59

Inbound Parameter:
RSINFO
RSSEND

Source system:

search for the logical system name of the BW system

Outbound parameter
RSINFO -> double click -> receiver port -> double click -> RFC destination -> make sure that this RFC points to the correct BW system in transaction sm59
RSSEND -> double click -> receiver port -> double click -> RFC destination -> make sure that this RFC points to the correct BW system in transaction sm59

Inbound Parameter
RSRQST

6. What are the relevant authorizations for background user?

The RFC user on BW, receiving data from OLTP system, should have profiles:S_BI-WHM_RFC and S_RS_ALL.
The RFC user on OLTP, receiving request from BW system, should have profiles:S_BI-WX_RFC, S_IDOC_ALL and B_ALE_ALL.
Human administrator in both systems with S_RS_ALL
