Ampere (A):

• An ampere is a unit of measure of the rate of electron flow or current in an electrical

conductor.
• One ampere of current represents one coulomb of electrical charge (6.24 x 1018charge
carriers) moving past a specific point in one second.

Galvanometer (G):

• The galvanometer is the device used for detecting the presence of small current and
voltage or for measuring their magnitude.
• The galvanometer is mainly used in the bridges and potentiometer where they
indicate the null deflection or zero current.
• Insulation of a galvanometer is very low.
• Galvanometer is always connected in series to a circuit.

Ammeter (A):

• The meter used for measuring the current is known as the ammeter.
• In order to convert a Galvanometer into an Ammeter, a very low resistance known as
"shunt" resistance is connected in parallel to Galvanometer.
• The ideal ammeter has zero internal resistance.
• Ammeter is always connected in series to a circuit

Voltmeter (V):

• A voltmeter is an instrument used for measuring electrical potential difference between

two points in an electric circuit.
• In order to convert a Galvanometer into a Voltmeter, a very high resistance
is connected in series to Galvanometer.
• Voltmeter is always connected in parallel to the circuit
• The ideal voltmeter has infinite resistance
• Potentiometer acts as an ideal voltmeter
