The document defines key terms related to heat transfer, sound, soil composition, variables in experiments, states of water, and the water cycle. It explains that conduction is the transfer of heat through solids, convection involves the transfer of heat by fluid movement, and radiation transmits heat across empty spaces. It also defines terms like topsoil, subsoil, and bedrock layers of the soil. Additionally, it distinguishes between controlled, manipulated, and responding variables in experiments. Finally, it outlines the water cycle as the continuous process by which water evaporates, condenses, and precipitates.

CONDUCTION- the transfer of heat through solid materials.

CONVECTION- is the transfer of heat from one place to another movements of in fluids.

RADIATION- heat transmitted across empty space or vacuum.

VIBRATION- when objects make sound, they move back and forth.

VOLUME- the softness and loudness of sound.

LOUDNESS- is measure of how strong sound seems to us.

NOISE- is any undesirable sound which disturbs the activities of human life and animal.

ECHOLOCATION- is the transmission of sound waves to locate objects.

WIND VANE- is an instrument that tells you the wind direction.

97 % - the total volume of salt in the water on our earth.

SOIL- it is the system into which energy and matter from the sun, the atmosphere and living

organism.cover most of the land part of the earth.

CLAY- particles are packed together tightly. It is sticky when wet has the finest texture.

LOAM- is the mixture of sand and clay.

SAND- particles are coarse and loose.

TOPSOIL- is the uppermost layer of the soil.

SUBSOIL- is located just below the topsoil.

PARENT ROCK- is composed of rocks that are slowly breaking apart.

BED ROCK – is the lowest of the soil layer.

CONTROLLED VARIABLE- refers to the things, materials or condition that remain constant or the

same.

MANIPULATED VARIABLE- refers to the things, materials or condition that are varied or changed.

RESPONDING VARIABLE- refers to the things, materials or condition that respond to the

changes.

WATER- is a colorless and odorless substance found all over the earth.

SEA WATER- is salty. It contains plenty of salt. It is found in the seas and oceans.

FRESH WATER- is also called surface water. Unlike seawater it does not have salt.
GROUNDWATER- is found beneath the earth’s surface. It comes from water that seeps into the

ground.

HYDROSPHERE- water part of the earth. This covers three-fourths of its surface.

WATER CYCLE- water continously moved in the earth’s surface in a process.

WATER VAPOR- fresh water found in rivers, lakes, ponds and in the atmosphere.

THERMOMETER- is used to measure air temperature.

TEMPERATURE- is the hotness and coldness of air around us.

WIND VANE- is an instrument that tells you the wind direction.

ANEMOMETER- it measures wind speed.

SUN- is the main source of heat and light. It is made up of very hot gases.

PHOTOSYNTHESIS- process of plants can undergo in the process of food making.

EVAPORATION- is the type of vaporization that occurs on the surface of a liquid as it changes

into the gas phase.

TRANSPIRATION- water particles are released from the leaves of plants.

RESPIRATION- Animals and human give off water particles when they perpire.

CONDENSATION- when water vapor in the atmosphere had cooled.

PRECIPITATION- When the condensed water vapor becomes heavy.

WATER CYCLE- is a continous process of changing liquid water into water vapor.
