the lesson Let the student state the law of conservation of momentum
What is elastic collision?
The teacher presents the equation for elastic collision
Let the students solve sample problems applying the law of conservation in elastic collision.
A 2,500 kg car moving at 25.5 m/s hits the rear of a 2,000 kg car moving slower on a straight line. If after collision, the
heavier car moves at 20.0 m/s while the other at 24.0 m/s in the same direction along the highway, with what speed is
the lighter car moving before the collision.
A cart with mass 0.340 kg moving on a frictionless linear air track at 1.2 m/s strikes a second cart of mass
0.5 kg at rest. The collision between the two carts is elastic. After the collision, the first cart continues in its
original direction at 0.66 m/s. What is the velocity of the second cart after impact?
