Social change refers to any change in the social order of a society. It includes changes in social institutions, behaviors, relations, and the nature of society itself. Information and communications technology (ICT) can have both positive and negative impacts when used as a medium for social change. Positively, ICT allows for easier access to information, greater awareness of social issues, and opportunities for participation in social movements. However, it can also reduce sociability, enable misleading information, increase unemployment through automation, reduce privacy, and worsen economic divides through unequal access to technology.

Social change is ung kahit anong pagbabago sa social order ng isang society.

Social change may include


changes in nature, social institutions, social behaviours, or social relations.

 It can improve the quality of human life because it can be used as a learning and education
media, the mass communication media in promoting and campaigning practical and important
issues, such as the health and social area. It provides wider knowledge and can help in gaining
and accessing information.
 ICT has become an integral part of everyday life for many people. It increases its importance in
people’s lives and it is expected that this trend will continue, to the extent that ICT literacy will
become a functional requirement for people’s work, social, and personal lives.
Positive
 Naging fundamental tool for us in communication, awareness and change
 Information and Communications Technology has different impacts when it is used as a medium
for promoting social change. May it be cyber-bullying, promotion for feminism, abolition of
slavery, or industrial revolution, ICT gives an opportunity for people to be aware of the problems
in the society and offers them the opportunity participate and be part of these social changes.
 Mas napapadali ung pag gather ng information through surfing the internet instead reading
books na pupunta ka pa sa mismong library
 Ung pag spread ng mobile phones, communication system and internet is nagbigay ng malaking
impact sa trade and development
 ICT serves as a critical tool for job creation and e-commerce

Negative
 Dahil sa ICT karaniwang nagkakaroon ng dalawang buhay ung isang tao or naapektuhan ung
personality nila. For example is iba ung pinapakita nilang katauhan nila in person compare sa
social media
 Makes human less sociable. Nowadays we call it paperless communication kung saan
nakikipagusap tayo sa mga friends or kakilala natin thru social networking sites or texting na,
hindi na natin kailangan puntahan or sulatan ang isa’t isa para magsabi ng chika
 Reduced physical activity na nag cacause ng other health problems such sa paglabo ng mata due
to too much exposure from radiation ng gadgets and iba pa
 Misleading information. Lumalaganap ang maraming iba’t ibang fake news dahil kahit sino
naman na ang nakakaaccess ng internet. Maaring may sabihin ako na wala naman strong
evidence pero paniniwalaan pa din ng lahat dahil convincing to
 Increase of unemployment. Tulad nga nung example nung nakaraan, factories replace
manpower with machineries dahil mas efficient at mas mabilis yon dahil don nawawalan ng
trabaho ung matao. Other example is ung ginagawa ng mga fast food chains kung saan
naglalagay na sila ng self-ordering kiosk dahil dun di na needed ng service crews.
 Less privacy. Anyone can access your information
 Digital divide. Di naman lahat kayang iafford or maccess ung technology at tinatawag itong
digital divide. those who have ready access to computers and the Internet, and those
who do not

Positive since it advances our technology and make man’s life easier. Negative because it makes us less
sociable
