NO TO HOMEWORK POLICY IN THE PHILIPPINES

Homework is a vital part of education, because it gives students the opportunity to apply knowledge
gained I the classroom .This occurs in two ways, not only by applying and creating educational content, but also in
giving students practice in developing good work habits and methods.

“No to homework policy” is a very controversial topic and everyone has his or her opinion. The
Department of Education has expressed its support for the no homework policy bills proposed by lawmakers at the
House of Representatives. Also, the Dep Ed said the measures would enable learners to have more quality time with
their parents, family and friends by limiting the homework and assignments.

On the contrary, the said TDC national chairperson Benjo Basas said that, he believed homework
was all about discipline, responsibility and continuity of learning .In addition, homework also promoted quality time
when family members help out the learner to complete the task at hand.

As a teen student, do all students need the policy of no homework though? For me, I agree about the
policy of no homework because having many assignments can prone the students into stress. Also, this policy helps
all students not to be in boredom of going to school and cannot lead in dropping out of school. I think that this policy
probably a great help to my parents because instead of doing my homework during weekends, I can help them work
in the garden. In addition ,I don’t agree if some students are not expressing their support about the policy because it
should be a relaxation for all students .The representative deputy speaker of Sorsogon Mrs. Evelina Escudero filed
house bill no.3611 which seeks to remove homework as a class requirement and limit school activities to the campus
noting that “homework assignments can deprive students and parents precious quality time for rest, relaxation and
interaction after school hours and even on weekends.

Congressman Alfredo Vargas also stated that “homework should be eliminated so that students can
enjoy their free time from the precisions of school during weekends and to be able to have a quality time with their
family and friends. As well as the Department of Education expressed its support for the said policy for primary and
secondary students, saying that it would help learners find balance between personal and academic excellence.

In conclusion, I will also give support to the said policy and try to balance my time as a learner. And also, as far
as I know, the said policy was all the students longing for. The important is at least we students have learned other
things that mold our knowledge.
