This proposed automated system about computer laboratory

management aims to upgrade the usual computer laboratory. The
automated computer laboratory management system helps the
administration and laboratory custodian to make their task easy to do.
The main objective of this project includes; limiting hours when a
student can/cannot login a computer, limiting how long an eligible student
can use a computer by allocating them specific time on daily basis,
automatically closing a student's session when the time is out, recording
user statistics like used and remaining hours.
Through this system the time consumed by the staff can be reduced in
terms of manual adding data information of the students and viewing the
record of the previous record of the student.
The researchers conducted interview to gather and analyze the
current system’s possible risk and disadvantages. The use of computer
laboratory management system is to make a daily transaction fast and easy.
The purpose of Computer Laboratory Management System was
developed using Visual Basic 6.0 and MS 2007 for the database.

CHAPTER I
(Introduction)

Nowadays, in our society is in advance technology, human productivity is

made more efficient through the development of electronic gadgets, in one

organization like school/university/college and other agencies or offices.

The Computer Laboratory is an indispensable part of the institution in High

Schools and Universities for the reason that there are several matters that

uses computer like computing of data, creating documents and many other

tasks that uses computers for faster data processing. In schools, almost all

courses are having computer- related subject to learn about computers.

Focusing on this topic, Computer Laboratory Management System helps the

laboratory custodian to record and monitor the data of every student’s and

other personnel.

Most of the computer laboratories are usually monitored in manual way

using logbook to list all the record of students or we called manually log-on.

As we observe in our institution, Ms. Melanie Dañez and Ms. Glecy Viñas are

currently using manual process to record and serve the details of the

student’s, which takes time and effort to school laboratory personnel who is
in-charge in computer laboratory. By using technology we are proposing a

computerized “computer laboratory system” that will help LIFE Institution to

have a automated system that will upgrade and process of daily transaction

inside the computer laboratory.

Computer Laboratory is one of the facilities provided by Atty. Gregorio B.

Chavez to help students practice the theories that have been thought by our

instructors.

relating to a practical subject organized on scientific principles

RELATED LITERATURE

The history of computer labs at colleges and universities is an ill-

documented one. Books, articles, and websites can be found

documenting the first mainframes put in place and the early years of

computer science. Computer labs, however, are rarely found

described in the literature about computing in higher learning. Even

less scholarly attention has been given to how students have used
these labs. In some ways it appears the labs have quietly settled into

the middle areas between personal computers and supercomputers as

well as between class use and in-home use. Lab computers offer

access to personal computing software and high-end specialized

software. They are also utilized for academic needs similar to in-class

use and entertainment like much computer use at home. Yet, while

studies have been focused on computer use at the ends of these two

spectrums, the university computer lab has unceremoniously bridged

the gaps without garnering much attention. Understanding the

background for this particular study requires a look into three subject

areas: how students use computers to fulfill academic needs, how

computers have become a part of social lives of students, and how

entertainment and other personal tasks are being completed using

computers. Knowing these patterns of general computer usage will

help provide a reference when looking at how computers in university

labs are used. Student use of computers began as a way to make

academic work more effective and efficient. Internet use has become a

staple of almost every type of academic endeavor these days although

its effectiveness in educating students might be debated by 9 some

professors. Oftentimes, students’ primary resource for an assignment

will be a commercial Internet search engine or general web surfing “

instead of using more reliable points of access such as library

databases or their library’s home page” (Thompson, 2003, p. 262).

Despite opinions of some faculty members, students feel that these

methods are working well for them. Seventy-five percent of students

reported that they are successful in finding the information that they

need for academic assignments (Thompson, 2003). These research

methods seem to have an impact on the citations within student

papers. Davis and Cohen (2001) conducted a biometric analysis of

citations in 1996 when the Internet was first being used as

a research tool and 1999 when it was well established. Their data

indicates that citations of websites increased while citations of books

decreased. Magazine and journal citations remained fairly stable which

may be related to their availability in online journals and article

databases. The academic use of computers and the Internet is much

more diverse than simply doing online research. The most basic use is
in word-processing. The ability to quickly type legible documents, save

them for later use, and easily edit their contents has made writing for

classes much easier and efficient. Similarly, applications like Microsoft

Excel have made it easy to create tabular data and perform simple

calculations. Presentation software such as Microsoft PowerPoint and

Apple Keynote allow students to make professional-looking

multimedia presentations for classes.
