Design of Corbel: Check For Depth: For Shear Force Consideration

1) The document describes the design of a corbel to support a vertical load of 10 MT and moment of 10 tm. 2) The depth of the corbel is determined to be 425 mm to satisfy shear and moment requirements. 3) The main reinforcement consists of 5 bars of 16 mm diameter to resist the tensile force of 5.58 MT. Shear reinforcement of 5 ties of 10 mm diameter spaced at 60 mm is also designed. 4) The shear capacity of the section is calculated to be 75.35 MT which is safe to resist the design shear force.

Determination of Lever arm

(z/d)^2 – (r/(r+k))*(z/d) + (k/(r+k))*(av/d)^2 = 0

k = Fv / (0.88*fck*b*d) = 0.02
r = av/d = 0.53

Substituting k & r value, we get

(z/d)^2 – (r/(r+k)*(z/d) + (k/(r+k))*(av/d)^2 = 0
(z/d)^2 - 0.97 (z/d) + 0.02 = 0
(z/d)^2 - -0.96225 z/d + 0.01062343 = 0
z/d = 0.95108271
