This weekly lesson plan is for an Alternative Learning System class on waste management. The objectives are for students to recognize the importance of reducing, reusing, recycling, recovering, and repairing waste, and to describe community projects that can solve problems. Students will learn about waste management through activities that discuss the characteristics of waste, provide examples of reducing waste, and have groups discuss waste management practices. Students will be assessed through a formative test matching terms to pictures, and will complete a waste management project applying the 5Rs. The teacher will reflect on what teaching strategies worked well and any difficulties encountered.
