 COMPOSITION
1. A visit ( a trip) to HCM city
Every year my family have a visit to somewhere. Last summer was not exception. My parents took us to
HCM city on Sunday .
Our journey started at about 4:00 AM on that day. My father hired a car to go because going by car was both
faster and more comfortable.
Two hours later, we arrived in HCM city. The thing that surprised me was that there were too people and too
much traffic on the streets. The buildings were high and beautiful.
First, the driver took us to the zoo where there were animals, birds, fish and hippos, monkeys. It’s interesting
to look at monkeys eating bananas. Then we went to Tao Dan botanical garden where there were lots of
shadows . It’s comfortable to go for a walk there. After that we went to Reunification Palace where colonel
Nguyen Thanh Trung bombed in 1975.While I was looking at interesting furniture in this building suddenly I
heard a loud voice behind me , it’s was my father’s voice. He told that it was time to go home.
We hurried to return to parking lot. The driver took us come back home,. I arrived home at 6:00 PM .
I felt happy and enjoyed that trip very much. I hope I will have a chance to go to HCM again some next
summer.
2. A visit (a trip) to the countryside
Every year whenever summer comes I usually have a visit to somewhere. Last Summer was not exception.
Last Summer my class held a visit to Ngu hiep village on Sunday.
On that day I got up very early. We went there by bike. When we rode on the road , we saw many tall trees,
beautiful houses, people . What a lovely sight!
It took me about 20 minutes to go there. Before reaching Ngu Hiep village I had a chance to sit on the ferry
crossing Tien river. The water in the river is very clean and crystal.
When reaching I felt comfortable. The air was fresh and cool there. There were a lot of fruits there such as
durians, plum, mango, …Especially, durians are very delicious in Ngu Hiep villages.
Then my friend, Lan took us to her uncle’s house and we had lunch there. We also went a walk around . The
sights were wonderful there .People were very friendly and hospitable.
And finally it’s time for us to go home. We came home at about 5:00 PM . I felt happy and enjoyed that trip
very much. I hope I will have a chance to come back there again next year.
3. A picnic
Whenever we have free time, my class holds a picnic . Last Sunday I with my classmates had a picnic at my
friend’s house, Lan in the countryside.
It was a fine day last Sunday. We went to Lan’s house by bike. All of us were five members. We started to go
at 5:00 o’clock in the morning. It took us about an hour and a half to go her house.
When we arrived, Lan prepared everything carefully. Her parents were very happy when we came. I surprised
that there lots of food on the table. I asked Lan who made and Lan answered her mother did.
After having breakfast, we played games “ What song is it” and “ blind man’s buff”. Then we went fishing in
the river behind Lan’s house and went for a walk around . At noon we had lunch in the garden with bread,
soft drink, snack and lots of kinds of fruits. We continued to enjoyed our picnic till the evening.
At 6:30 PM we hurried gathered things to go home. I enjoyed that picnic very much. It was short, however, it
helped us very much . It helps me relaxed after a hard working week and know more about people and places
of our country.
4. A letter from…..
Dear….,
I arrived in Nha Trang at 4:00 AM yesterday morning. Thanh met me at the train station and then he took me
home by his motorbike.
Nha Trang is a quiet and beautiful city. It has a long coastline with beautiful white sandy beaches.
I went to the beach very early this morning and enjoyed the sunrise far out in the sea. Yesterday morning
Thanh and Hoai took me to the Tri Nguyen Aquarium. It’s very interesting to see many different kind of
fish and sea creatures.
I’ve also visited many interesting places like Cham Temple, Aquarium, Pasteur Institute.
I’ve taken part in some fascinating out door activities: mud bathing snorkeling and scuba diving. Tomorrow
we are going to spend the evening visiting a fishing village where we can get a taste of the local seafood.
I feel so happy and enjoy myself so much. The people here are so nice and friendly, the food is excellent and
the sights are very beautiful. I’ll leave Nha Trang at 4PM on Saturday and will arrive home at 5AM on
Sunday. Please pick me up at the train station Love
5. Talk about your close friend
At school I have a lot of friends but my close friend is Nam. Nam is tall and handsome. He is the same age as
me. He is my classmate. His house is near my house. Nam is very friendly and helpful. He often helps me
with difficult problem whenever I need. Nam studies very well. He always gets good marks.
Nam is not only a good boy at school but also a good son in his family. He usually does chores to help his
mother. He is loved very much by his teachers, parents, and friends. They are always proud of him.
Nam is in deed my close friend. I like him very much, I hope my friendship lasts forever.
6. Uniforms
I think it’s necessary for secondary students to wear uniforms when they are at school because of the
following reasons.
Firstly, wearing uniforms encourages students to be proud of being students of their school because they are
wearing the uniforms with labels bearing their school’s name.
Secondly, wearing uniforms helps students feel equal in many ways, whether they are rich or poor
Finally, wearing uniforms is practical. we don’t have to think of what to wear every day.
Therefore, Students in secondary schools should wear uniform.
7.Casual clothes( unit 2)
I think it’s necessary for secondary students to wear casual clothes when they are at school because of the
following reasons.
Firstly, wearing casual clothes make students feel comfortable. It’s easy for them to travel
Secondly, wearing casual clothes gives students freedom of choice about size, colors and fashion...
Nextly, wearing casual clothes makes students feel self-confident when they are in their favorite clothes and
makes school more colorful and lively
Therefore, Students in secondary schools should wear casual clothes.
8.Your favorite clothes
As you know everyone has their own favorite clothes. For me, I like wearing jeans and T shirt best because of
the following reasons.
Firstly, when I wear jeans and T shirt I feel comfortable. I can travel easily. I feel more confident when I talk
to everyone.
Secondly, wearing jeans and T shirt is very convenient. I don’t have to spend time ironing clothes everyday.
Secondly, jeans and T shirt are always fashionable clothes. Wearing them makes us look younger, healthier
and more beautiful.
On the other hand, nowadays there are a lot of shops selling fashionable jeans and T shirt everywhere. It’s
easy for us to buy jeans and T shirt at a low price.
In conclusion, I like wearing jeans and T shirt very much. In the future if I have more money, I will buy more
jeans and T shirt to wear.
7.What is your favorite subject?
At school I have studied many subjects but I like studying English best because of the following reasons.
Firstly, English is one of my compulsory subjects. If we don’t learn English well, we can’t pass the exam to
study in the upper class.
Secondly, I like studying English because English is an international language. Knowing English I can speak
to people all over the world. I can read newspapers and watch program on television in English and can
understand interesting English songs.
Last but not least, studying English well gives us chances to get jobs with good salary. It gives us
opportunities to improve our life.
In conclusion, English is useful and interesting language. I will try my best to study English better and better.
It’s my ambition. I hope it will become true.
8. What do you do in your free time?
Everyone has own hobby in their free time. Some like reading . Others like going for a walk. For me, I like
watching television in my free time because of the following reasons
9. What is your favorite media?
Nowadays there are a lot of media in life. Some likes reading newspapers. Others like accessing the Internet.
For me I like watching television because of the following reasons.
Firstly, watching television gives us information about every aspect in our life. It helps us know what is
happening everywhere all over the world and widen our knowledge .
Secondly, watching television is a cheap mean for relaxing .It’s comfortable to watch interesting film or listen
to music at home.
Nextly, through watching television we can know how to protect our health thanks to health program for
everyone.
In conclusion, watching TV is an useful form of relaxing. But we shouldn’t spend much time watching it we
should take more time for our study.
10. What is your favorite media? ( unit 5)
10.1 Advantage of the internet
As you know nobody can deny the benefits of the internet in our modern life. In deed, the internet brings us
the following benefits.
Firstly, the internet is a source of information. It is a very fast and convenient way for us to get information
about every aspect from our daily life to scientific fields.
Secondly, by using internet we can relax after a hard working day. We can listen to interesting music, favorite
songs , enjoy exciting football matches, films, games or read newspaper on line.
Besides by using internet we can communicate with our friends and relatives through chatting or using email.
Finally, thanks to internet we can have education but we don’t have to go to school or colleges because
Internet helps us have on line school, on line lessons and self taught.
In conclusion, the internet is very useful for us. However, we shouldn’t spend too much time for it and we
should be careful while surfing the web.
10.2 Disadvantage of the internet
Nobody can deny that the internet brings us a lot of advantages. However, it also gives us lots of the
following disadvantages.
Firstly, It takes us time to use. We must spend hours getting information. Besides we also spend money
accessing it.
Secondly, if we use the internet, our personal information such as our name, address can be accessed by the
others
Nextly, there are lots of bad programs on the internet such as sexual films, motor- races, violent films. These
programs can be easily found and badly influence on the children.
In conclusion, all of us should be aware of that internet is very useful for us but it also has lots of
disadvantages so while surfing the web be alert!
11. PROTECT OUR ENVIRONMENT
Nowadays our environment is polluted seriously so protecting our environment is our duty. For me we can
protect our environment in the following ways.
Firstly, we can use leaves to wrap food , reuse and recycle bottles and cans to reduce garbage
Secondly, we shouldn’t throw trash onto the water to keep water cleaner put garbage bins around the school
yard to prevent lazy students from throwing trash and to keep the schoolyard clean.
Nextly, we should go to school or to work on foot or by bicycle to reduce exhaust fume to keep our air
cleaner.
In conclusion, it’s time for us to talk about environmental problem
12. SAVING ENERGY
As you know our energy has limitation so saving energy is also our duty. For me, we can save energy in the
following ways.
Firstly, to save energy we should turn off all electric appliances such as lights, fans , air conditioners, gas
stoves when we don’t use them.
Secondly, we should turn off the faucets when we go out because a dripping faucet can waste 500 liters of
water a month.
Finally, we should go to school or go to work on foot or by bicycle or use public transport to save petrol and
money. We should also have a mechanic check our motorcycle regularly.
In short, saving energy is essential problem that we must do immediately now if we want to preserve our
natural resource of the earth
13. CELEBRATIONS
Write a passage about if it’s necessary to have a day for dad and another for mom? Why? ( unit 8)
This morning I just learned a lesson about father’s Day. It was really interesting. In Vietnam, however, people
do not celebrate. Mother’s Day or Father’s Day. In my opinion. It’s necessary to have a day to celebrate for
mom and another for dad.
There are lots of reasons for celebrating these days but the main reasons are the children will have a special
day to express their feelings , their memories and their love to their parents. In addition , we’ll have an
opportunity to enhance family traditions as well as a chance to get members of families together in order to
bring them closer.
I think Sunday is the most suitable day for celebrating . It is free from work or study.
It’s not necessary to have parties but it’s a good idea to have lunch or dinner with all family members. In this
special day, children should serve their parents with food they like best and offer them flowers, cakes or
special gift and cards.
I believe my idea will be supported and the day for our parents will be celebrated nationwide someday.
14. NATURAL DISASTERS PREPARE BEFORE THE TYPHOON COMES
Typhoon is one of the natural phenomenon. The scientists can predict when it happens. However , it
sometimes happens suddenly so preparing well before the typhoon comes is very necessary and practical. For
me the things we need to do before typhoon comes are.
Firstly, we should buy some canned food and some candles and matches because when typhoon comes the
market will be closed and no food will be available and there may be a power cut.
Secondly, we should fill with buckets with water because when typhoon comes, the water pipes may be
damaged.
Nextly, we should fix the leak in the roof and tie the roof to the
Ground and pegs and ropes and check the windows and door latches because when typhoon comes it will be
rainy and windy.
In conclusion, preparing before the typhoon comes is our duty if we want to have a good life in areas where
disasters often happen.

Pollution is the by-product of industry. Which is more important, developing industry or curbing pollution?
How have people in your country realised this issue and taken measures to protect the environment?
Should people be encouraged to use or stop using disposable materials? Will this change in the future?
1)What should you do to protect the environment ?
The environment is everything around us, both natural and made by man. A major problem in the world today is the
destruction of the natural environment.
This is complicated problem. We burn fuel and throw away plastic bags these cause pollution . We have made
thousands of new chemicals, factories that made or use chemicals always chemical wastes. These are often poesonous,
and thay also stay in the environment.
What should we do at school or at home to minimize pollution ? for me, We could pick up garbage littered and put it
into a gabage bin, we can reuse bottles and cans, use banana leaves or papers to wrap foot, not throw trash into the
water or ground. That is how we can keep the school yard clean and protect the environement.
Moreover, using the public buses can reduce exhaust fume and threefore we can keep the air cleaner.
I think that it is not enough simply to talk about the problem . We must act now before it too late to do anything about
it . Join us now to protect the environment. That is how we can save the Earth.
2)In about 150, write a paragraph about your close friends.
Do you have any close friends ? I think everybody at last has one close friend in their life. And so do I. I have two
close friends, Hanh and Mai. We are in the same class at primary school, and then seconday school. We are also
nerghbors so we spend most of our time in learning and playing together. Hanh is a beautiful girl with black eyes and
oval face. She is an intelligent student who is always at the top of the class. She likes reading, and she often goes to the
library whenever she has free time. Mai isn’t as beautiful as Hanh, but she has a lovely smile and looks very healthy.
Mai is very sporty. She spends most of her free time playing sport. Mai is a volleyball star of our school. She is also
very sociable and has a good sense of humor. Her jokes always make us laugh. I love both of my friends and I always
hope our friendship will never die.
3)In about 150 words, write a paragraph about advantages and diadvantages of the city life and the country life.
Compare these two places and say which you prefer.
The country and the city have advantages and disadvantages. People in the country live in more beautiful environment.
They enjoy peace and quiet, and can do their work at their own pace because no one is in a hurry. They live in large,
more comfortable houses, and their neighbors are more friendly, and ready to hilp them when they need it. Their life
can be monotonous and thay can be isolated a long way from the nearest town, which is a serious problem if they are ill
ro have to take children to school.
The city has all the services the country lacks, but it also has a lot of disadvantages. Cities are often ugly and polluted;
they not only have bad air bad but are also noise.
For my part, no matter how comfortable or convenient the city life may be, I till prefer living in the country. I think it
is heathier and more peaceful to live a countryside than in the city.

Among the most useful inventions in the last century; I find the computer the most important because of these reasons:-
First, when the computer is connected to the Internet, it is a good way of learning and getting information. You can read

things. My hobby is to read books. I enjoy reading many types of books, but my favorite is detective. I like reading

for the next day’s work. When I have free time, I often go to bookstores to look for new books. Once a week, I go to the

Topic 8: The most interesting place you have been to
I have been to many places in Vietnam, but the most interesting place that I always remember is Da Nang, the beautiful
coastal city in Vietnam. It’s wonderful to me because of these reasons. First, the scenery in Da Nang is ideal for us to go
sunbathing. We can swim in the blue and clear seawater or do sunbathing on the soft sand beach under the yellow and
warm sunshine. The air is so fresh and pure. Second, the local sea food are fresh, delicious but not expensive. For
example, tourists can enjoy different kinds of seafood such as crab, prawn, lobster, seashell… Also, the people there are
friendly, sociable and polite. Third, there are many interesting activities to do beside playing football, tennis on the
beach, building sandcastles on the beach or watching the sunrise. For example, we can sail on abroad trip to the Cu Lao
Cham and watch the mountain scenery on the way. Also, we may visit Ba Na Hill….For these reasons, Da Nang has
always been one of my favorite tourist attractions.

Nowadays, it is very important to learn a foreign language because of these reasons. First, learning a foreign language,
English for example, helps us learn and get information about new things in the world. There are a lot of books written
in English, French, Chinese……Second, it help us feel confident when we travel abroad. We can talk very easily with
people in other countries and learn a lot from them. We can use the language to work and do business without an
interpreter. Finally, though a foreign language we learn we can learn more about the people of that country, we know a
lot about their culture and society and customs and traditions. We can become friends of many people so our life is
more interesting. In short, when we know a foreign language we can open a new to our world. Because of the benefits

If you want to have good health, you should follow these pieces of advice: First, you should eat healthy food: lots of
fruits, vegetable, fish and drink enough water every day to stay healthy. The Japanese eat a lot of fish so they live very
long. You should eat less meat and fat food because they may cause heart diseases and increase the cholesterol level in
your blood. Fruits and vegetables no only bring you lots of vitamins and minerals but also help you have a better
immune system. Second, you should exercise everyday by choosing a suitable sport such as jogging, tennis, swimming,
yoga… They not only make you strong but help you relax as well. So, it helps you keep fit and stay healthy. If you

I think it's a good thing that students shoul wear uniforms. For them, and for their parents too.

good, just to make everybody equal. for example, if you see other children in your school who have nicer clothes, more

Last week my school arranged a picnic of two days . We went to DAI NAM park
It was a fine cool morning. We gather in the school at six o'clock. Two buses had already come there. The teachers
counted the students. We were in all ninety two grouped into two groups Four teachers accompanied us and two peons
took charge of the sports things. At half past six, we got into the bus and left for DAI NAM.

We all were in a picnic mood. We sang songs and clapped. We were shouting and rejoicing. At 9AM the teachers served
us sandwiches and potato waters for breakfast. At around eleven we arrived at DAI NAM. We kept our bags and
baggage on a lodge booked by the school for us. After a full meal we got ready for sight-seeing.

One of the great things about using mountain biking to build fitness for road riding is that you can pack a lot of physical

I was born in Northern Vietnam, where there are four clear seasons: Spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Each season

swimming, fishing etc... Autumn is so beautiful with its ideal weather while winter can give us such delight as gathering

reasons:
During autumn, which lasts more or less from late July to early October, it is sunny most of the time. The Autumnal sun
is often splendid, dying nature yellow. The weather is also ideal because it is not too cold or too hot. Then the coldish
northwesterly wind, which blows gently, thrills everyone with the breath of autumn. The leaves of the trees turning
yellow or red put a gorgeous coat of colours on nature. Autumn is such a wonderful season that many poems and songs
have been composed to sing the praises of the season. Autumn is also a season which reminds me of my first day at
school, when my mother took me by the hand and led me to school for the first time.
Last but not least, autumn is the time when I can enjoy my favourite fruit and dish which are the Japanese persimmons
and the green rice flakes. These are found only in autumn.

Over the last thirty years, thanks to the efforts of various branches of science and technology, research has proved that
smoking damages health and shortens man's life-span.

of diseases connected to smoking is increasing more and more. The more science and technology learn, the more
damage caused by smoking is discovered. Therefore, it seems that we can never put a final stop to the list of harm
caused by smoking.
First of all, smoking brings about the decline {Suy giam}of our memory because each cigarette we smoke destroys
15,000 cerebral cells.
Smoking is considered the number one cause of lung cancer etc... The main offending agents are carbon monoxide and
nicotine in the smoke. These cancers - causing agents are also the ones which cause pharyngeal cancer. The toxic
effects of smoke make the smoker's voice hoarse. Additionally, the visible effect is that the tobacco or opium tar sticks
to the teeth, and causes them to become dark or dirty-yellow, diminishing our good looks and charm.
In conclusion, I would like to quote our well-known scholar "Le Quy Don" as saying some hundred years ago that
smoking was like taking a toxic drug, the smoke of which wasted our health and diminished our life-span; yet, few
people heeded his sage advice.

personality with crystal clear view of "right and wrong". She's an honest, a loyal and a warm humanitarian. Some
people wonder how we can become such good friends because she is so quiet and I'm very energetic and outgoing. I
think (that) the idiom "opposites attract" is the answer.

might ask? They bought a book that showed them how! A good book truly merits respect whether it is a "how-to" book,
a good novel or a school textbook

Vietnam is a long, narrow strip of land in the shape of a letter "S". We, Vietnamese, compare our country to the shape

the head, mane and front legs. Vietnam has a total territory of 332.000 square kilometers, and a coastline which
meanders along the immense Pacific Ocean.
Being of a peace-loving nature the Vietnamese people nevertheless know how to react vigorously against adversities to
defend their homeland. Fiercely protective of their independence and sovereignty for 2.000 years, they are also
welcoming foreigners who come as their guests.
Most visitors who come to Vietnam are overwhelmed by the sublime beauty of the country's natural setting. The Red
River Delta in the North, the Mekong River Delta in the South and almost the entire coastal strip are a patchwork of
green rice fields (paddy-fields) tended from draw to dusk by peasants in conical hats. Visitors will also have the
opportunity to experience the energetic and purposeful performance in revitalizing the Vietnamese economy by the
Vietnamese. They will have their senses thrilled by all the sights, tastes and smells of a society born of over a century
between an ancient civilization and the ways of the West.
Despite the ravages of war in the past, the Vietnamese people are now determined to rebuild their homeland, making it
many times as rich and magnificent as it used to be following Uncle Ho's teaching.
