The key takeaways are the importance of classroom observation for student teachers and gaining real classroom experience. It also provides opportunities to practice various teaching processes and responsibilities.

Ms. Dumlao used a projector and powerpoint presentation, asked questions to encourage student participation, clearly defined terms, provided examples, and gave the students an activity.

Some students were not paying attention, sleeping, or distracted by noises outside. Ms. Dumlao had to get their attention by raising her hand, tapping the board, and using humor.

Introduction:

Teaching is the centre of all education-related topics. As a student of the Professional Education

and a future educator, I believe it is very important for me to observe in a real classroom

environment. Before starting teaching in a real classroom environment it helps a practice teacher

to acquaint them with the process, strategies and methods of teaching if they observe a class of a

certain level before entering a class as a teacher. Practice teaching provides the student teachers

with opportunities to practice the various processes and responsibilities of teaching under the direct

supervision of the teacher. This is to give the student teachers a real classroom experience in

teaching so that they can develop the required skills for their classroom teaching.

Class Observation No. 1

Grade Level: Grade 7 Date: August 22, 2019

School: Macabalan National High School Time: 9:00 – 9:30 A.M.

We were instructed to go to the Office of the SBM Coordinator and the Academic Coordinator,

and there we were assisted by Ms. Florence Gay E. Dalman, the School Academic Coordinator.

We waited for thirty (30) minutes since Ms. Dalman had to attend a meeting yet. Then afterwards,

she accompanied us to Ms. Ma. Myamie G. Dumlao, the class adviser of Grade 7 class where we

are going to have an observation. As we entered the classroom, the learners stood up and greeted

us. The classroom was full. I guess there were almost 50 students in the class. Then Ms. Dumlao

started the class on the topic of “Larangan ng mga Talento”. She uses English and Filipino

languages as she discusses the topic and Visayan dialect to interact with the students. The teacher

uses a projector and a powerpoint presentation as part of her tools in discussing the topic. She had

a stick in her hand that serves in pointing the topic so that students can follow the lesson. She asked

the students first about the names of the pictures of the individuals that were on the powerpoint

presentation who are famous because of their talents and that ignites the participation of the

students. She provided as much as opportunities to the students to interact in the class. She

brainstormed the class by providing questions. She has this rule to the students not to answer

simultaneously but to raise their hands when responding. The class has a participative atmosphere.

She also added some points and clearly defined the terms in the class. The teacher demonstrates

the topic very well and gives examples relevant to the topic. She also let the students read the topic

altogether. The class has a good reading skill. As the teacher keeps on discussing some of the

students especially on the backside of the class are not listening. Others are sleeping while some

are doing other stuff which is not related to the topic. When the teachers observed that the students

are very noisy already and not focusing on her discussion, she raised her right hand to call the

attention of the class. She also used her stick, tap on the board, to get the attention of the students

who are destructed with the noise outside since the classroom was beside the school quadrangle.

She also uses humour in the class to refresh the students and not get bored. Having finished her

lesson, she gave the class an activity to write down the famous people in their chosen field that

they are familiar with.

Class Observation No. 2

Grade Level: Grade 7 Date: August 22, 2019

School: Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School Time: 11:30 – 12:30 A.M.

We were assisted by Mr Ian Kim Lorenzana, one of the teachers of Misamis Oriental General

Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS). Since we arrived at the school at around 11:00 AM

most of the class are ongoing with their lessons and activities. Mr Lorenzana then advised us to

observe the last class of the morning session that will start at 11:30 AM. He told us to observe the

class in partners so that it will not be that crowded and will not get the attention of the students.

He introduced us to Mr Franco Y. Pelegrino, the subject teacher of the Technology and Livelihood

Education class, where we are going to have an observation. Mr Pelegrino started the class at

exactly 11:30 AM. For the first thirty (30) minutes, he gave pre-test to the students. Then

afterwards he started the discussion on the topic “Kitchen Safety Rules.” He used a visual aid in

discussing the topic. He knows the topic very well and the learners are all ears in listening. He

brainstormed the class to share their ways of keeping the safety rules in the kitchen. He encouraged

the learners to give them examples from their real-life experiences. The class shared their ideas

enthusiastically. He ended the class by telling to continue the discussion the next day since they

were run out of time.
