Why Advance Studies

Prospective benefits I can gain from MRes
Why UK only
Why DE Montfort University
Why Advance Studies:
From 2016 through 2019, after graduating from Huddersfield, I dedicated myself for
my passion and joined an American based service providing company. Luckily, I got
opportunities to move in Power, Oil & Gas sectors (high-tech industries in Pakistan)
to work on various projects. I have worked on advance industrial control systems like
robust and intelligent control, including neural networks and genetic algorithm.
These exposures let me realize that I still need to widen boundaries of my
knowledge, analytical reasoning skills and problem-solving expertise. My limited
knowledge had been a reason of my nose-dived projects.

Learning can never have an end. Working with visionary leaders of industry is a
blessing for new field entrants. These people bestow us with not only our intended
goals but something more important than our intentions. Same happened to me. My
field managers facilitated me to recognize importance of changing environment.
Now, I believe, my utmost learning has been my understanding of corporate
paradigm shift.

I have learned that, no doubt, today’s cutting-edge developments in technology has

shaped so many amenities for mankind, there at the same time, countless challenges
have similarly got out of bed, and especially for technical experts, thus unlocking
gates for scientific revolutions. These unceasing technical evolutions have pushed
corporate world into a dynamic environment, particularly after invention of artificial
intelligence in late 50s. Customers are hankering after new products and latest
technologies. Companies then are investing billions of dollars in research and
development (R&D) to get ever more innovations to sustain their competitive
advantage.

This is my uppermost motive to explore more in my area of interest; electrical and

electronics engineering, to be a competitive resource. Research program (MRes) will
improve my researching, writing, and analyzing skill set. And I’d be a better problem
solver and able to easily encounter complex projects.

Prospective benefits I can gain from MRes:

Undergraduate degree generally delivers fundamental concepts of specific filed like I
had acquired; Basic Programming, Network Analysis, Logic Design, Signal Processing,
Power and Control System from my baccalaureate. Master’s program, from
Huddersfield, thereafter furnished me with detailed, but to some extent limited &
dependent, knowledge of my interest domain; artificial intelligence, Embedded
Systems, Electrical & Instrumentation, Mathematical modeling of railway systems etc
. But now to stay competitively alive, all I need is focused, independent and practice-
led research to deepen my skillset in functional analysis, stochastic processes and
fault tolerance.

My Taught Master Program (MSc) developed my expertise in existing subject

knowledge but MRes will place more emphasis on research work. MRes will train me
as a researcher. It will refine my academic knowledge, conceptualization, problem-
solving expertise and will develop a directed skill set, relevant to both industry and
academic career path, like:

1. sophisticated data collection and analysis skills

2. advanced evidence-based problem-solving skills
3. project management and leadership experience

Practice-led research delivers an opportunity to understand nature and potential of

research study through art and design practice. For a student who aims to go after
research study, it provides an excellent foundation for his next level of schoolwork
and supports him to progress towards his self-governing research more quickly.

Advance research degree, if I express myself about industry career, conveys message
to valuable employer that you’ve excellent project and personal management skills,
and that you can think independently and critically, and communicate effectively.
Today’s commercial organizations are giving value to research-oriented
professionals. Let me strengthen my observation with statistics, according to the U.S.
Bureau of Labor Statistics, 18 percent of future sophisticated jobs will require a
postgraduate research degree by 2022. For a professional, advance knowledge and
skills make transition easier into more senior positions in an organization. And if I
speak academically, research program will give me an experience of basics of
research, and to gain direct entry into doctoral program.
Why UK only:
I have some firm motives to study in UK.
1. The UK has a long history of welcoming international students to study in its
universities and colleges. International students occasionally don’t feel
strangeness. They are properly guided on every step in friendly way.
2. I didn’t feel any unfamiliarity during my master program because UK educational
system is much of the same as of Pakistan educational structure.
3. Quality assurance with prosperous future benefits are one the key drivers for
international students to move UK universities. UK universities and colleges are
regularly inspected to ensure that they uphold high standards of teaching,
learning and research-set, by government. The Quality Assurance Agency for
Higher Education (QAA) is the key body charged with maintaining these
standards.
4. After post-graduation, when I came back to my homeland, I was warmly welcome
by Pakistani employers. It’s because UK university degree programs are mainly
practical oriented.
Why De Montfort University?
I am interested to get admission in this particular university because:
1. I have already fascinating experience of study in UK University. It wouldn’t be of
much hard for me to fit in De Montfort University education system. Tutors and
supervisors are really friendly and cooperative.
2. Teaching staff credentials are not only recognized by success of students but also
by government agencies. For the last few years, De Montfort University is ranked
among UK’s leading university for National Teaching Fellowship.
3. If a university offers wide range of courses, it reflects a pool of intellectuals with
diverse academic and professional expertise. De Montfort University is offering a
wide range of advance research programs; MRes. It means a student can master
in knowledge field he has not studied before but is relevant to his career path.
This influences a student’s employability in international market. I aim to do
research in advanced electrical & electronics system with focus on Control &
Instrumentation, highly demanded in today’s market. This program is being
offered by few universities in UK and De Montfort University is one of them;
offering MRes with economical financial cost; affordable for me.
