WH Questions
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. define WH Questions;
b. enumerate the functions of WH Questions; and
c. apply WH Questions into real life situations properly.
III. Procedure

A. Preparation
Good morning class! Good morning Ma’am!
Let us pray first… (One student will lead the payer)
(Checking of Attendance) (President will pass the names of
absentees)
B. Motivation
The teacher will post a question with WH (Students will give their ideas about it)
and let students give their idea about it.
C. Lesson Proper
Class, what did you observe from the (Student will raise his/her hand)
questions a while ago?
(It started with WH Question)
Okay, yes?
What about modals? Can you give me an This are should, could, would, might etc.
example?
BE: You are leaving soon. The students will identify the parts in the
Y/N: Are you leaving soon? sentences such as auxiliary verbs or
WH: When are you Leaving? modals, subject and the main verb.
DO: They live in Palawan.
Y/N: Do they live in Palawan?
WH: Where do they live?
Who lives in Palawan?
HAVE: They have decided to go home.
Y/N: Have they decided to go home?
WH: What have they decided?
Who decided to go home?
MODAL: I should park on the left side.
Y/N: Should I park on the left side?
WH: Where should I park?
Is it clear class?
Yes Ma’am.
Another is the Negative WH Questions.
We use the auxiliary verb “do” when there is
no other auxiliary verb or modal verb.
Example:
Angelie doesn’t want an ice cream.
Y/N: Doesn’t Angeliie want an ice cream?
WH: Who doesn’t want an ice cream?
Very good!

And the last one is, WH with particle. Yes Ma’am!
When we ask questions using verbs
consisting of a main verb + particle, we do
not separate the verb from the particle or
preposition.
D. Application
Direction: Convert the statements into Yes 1. Y/N: Is the straight path the right
or NO Question first then into WH way?
Questions. WH: Which is the right way?
2. Y/N: Is my favourite color blue?
1. The right way is the straight path. WH: What is my favourite color?
2. Blue is my favourite color. 3. Y/N: Doesn’t Mina want an ice

4. I get up so early because I have my WH: Who doesn’t want an ice

IV. Generalization
We discussed about the WH questions which asks for information and cannot be answerable by yes or
no only, its functions and its different forms such as WH Question with auxiliary or modal verb, WH
Question without an Auxiliary verb, Negative WH Questions, WH question with prepositions and WH
Questions with particle. Remember class that, in constructing the WH Question the answer should be on
the statement.
V. Evaluation
Directions: Convert the statements into Yes or No question first and into WH Questions.
1. Your day was very colourful.
2. I don’t want to go the park.
3. I will talk to her about our assignment.
4. The 50 peso bill fell on the floor.
5. I want chocolates.
6. I should leave him now.
7. The third box didn’t open.
8. I should give the gift to Amor.

VI. Assignment
Directions: Convert the statements into Yes or No question first and into WH Questions.
