I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. define WH Questions;
b. enumerate the functions of WH Questions; and
c. apply WH Questions into real life situations properly.

Good morning class! Good morning Ma’am!
Let us pray first… (One student will lead the payer)
(Checking of Attendance) (President will pass the names of
absentees)
B. Motivation
The teacher will post a question with WH (Students will give their ideas about it)
and let students give their idea about it.
Okay, very good!
C. Lesson Proper
Class, what did you observe from the (Student will raise his/her hand)
questions a while ago?
(It started with WH Question)
Okay, yes?
Very good! Another Observation? It cannot be answerable by yes or no only.
Exactly! (Students will listen attentively)

Class, today our topic is all about WH
Questions. It begins with what, where, who,
whom, which, whose, when, why and
how. We use them to ask information and
the response is not answerable by yes or no
only.
Here are their functions.

We have here different forms. First one is,

WH Questions with an auxiliary verb or
modal.
The pattern goes like this:

Wh + an auxiliary/modal + subject + main
verb
(Student will raise a hand and answer)
Okay class, can anybody tell me what an
auxiliary verb is again?
Very good! Auxiliary verbs are the helping

verbs. Examples are be, do or have.
What about modals? Can you give me an This are should, could, would, might etc.

statements and we will convert it into Yes or
No and then into WH Questions.
BE: You are leaving soon. The students will identify the parts in the

Y/N: Do they live in Palawan?
WH: Where do they live?
Who lives in Palawan?

WH: What have they decided?
Who decided to go home?
MODAL: I should park on the left side.
Y/N: Should I park on the left side?
WH: Where should I park?
Did you get it class? Yes Ma’am.
Another form is WH Questions without an

auxiliary verb. Students will listen attentively.
When what, who, which or whose is the
subject or part of the subject, we don’t use Students will identify the subject, object
the auxiliary verbs. We use the word order and the verb.
subject + verb.
Example:
Bourgy’s phone rang.
Y/N: Did Bourgy’s phone ring?
WH: Whose phone rang?
Is it clear class?
Yes Ma’am.
Another is the Negative WH Questions.
We use the auxiliary verb “do” when there is
no other auxiliary verb or modal verb.
Example:
Angelie doesn’t want an ice cream.
Y/N: Doesn’t Angeliie want an ice cream?
WH: Who doesn’t want an ice cream?
Okay, who can give his/her own example?

Next is the WH Questions with

Prepositions.
We can use wh words and phrases after
preposition in more formal question.
What are examples of preposition class?

Student will raise a hand and answer.
Ma’am these are on, at, off, after, from,
Exactly! etc.
Example:
The money will come from the bank.
Y/N: Will the money come from the bank?
WH: Where will the money come from?
Formal: From where will the money come?
Remember class that you will just transfer

the preposition before the WH Questions.
Who can give his/her example and identify

the preposition used? Student will give an example.
Very good!

And the last one is, WH with particle. Yes Ma’am!
When we ask questions using verbs
consisting of a main verb + particle, we do
not separate the verb from the particle or
preposition.
Examples of particle are: get up, set out,

wake up, etc.
These are verbs that connected to a

preposition.
Example:
The principal gave away the prizes.
Y/N: Did the principal gave away the prizes?
WH: Who gave away the prizes?
What did the principal gave away?
Did you get it class?
Class, do not be confused with the WH Yes Ma’am!

D. Application
Direction: Convert the statements into Yes 1. Y/N: Is the straight path the right
or NO Question first then into WH way?
Questions. WH: Which is the right way?
2. Y/N: Is my favourite color blue?
1. The right way is the straight path. WH: What is my favourite color?
2. Blue is my favourite color. 3. Y/N: Doesn’t Mina want an ice

4. I get up so early because I have my WH: Who doesn’t want an ice

IV. Generalization
We discussed about the WH questions which asks for information and cannot be answerable by yes or
no only, its functions and its different forms such as WH Question with auxiliary or modal verb, WH
Question without an Auxiliary verb, Negative WH Questions, WH question with prepositions and WH
Questions with particle. Remember class that, in constructing the WH Question the answer should be on
the statement.
V. Evaluation
Directions: Convert the statements into Yes or No question first and into WH Questions.
1. Your day was very colourful.
2. I don’t want to go the park.
3. I will talk to her about our assignment.
4. The 50 peso bill fell on the floor.
5. I want chocolates.
6. I should leave him now.
