CODING
DECODING (ADVANCE)

The term coding

A system of symbols, letters, or words given certain arbitrary meanings, used
for transmitting messages requiring secrecy or brevity.

Types of coding decoding

1.Substitution Coding
2.Logical Substitutional Coding
3.Number Coding
4.Letter Coding

Substitution coding:
In a certain coding language :
Ajay , Ankit , Arpit is written as KPLT , PKTL , LTKP .
Ananya Arpit Anita Ayushi is written as GTHS , LTKP , TGHS , HSGT .
Ankit Aaradhna Arpita is written as TSHG , PKTL , TKLP.
Aaradhna Ayushi Ankita is written as JQKP , TSHG , HSGT .
Arpita Aaradhye Arpit is written as KPJQ , LTKP , TKLP

Q.1 What is code for Aaradhna ? Q.3 What is code for Ananya ?
(1) GTHS (1) GTHS
(2) JQKP (2) TSHG
(3) TSHK (3) TGHS
(4) TSHG (4) Either 1 or 2
(5) None of these (5) Either 1 or 3
Q.2 What is code for Arpit, Arpita Q.4 What is code for Aaradhye ?
? (1) JQKP
(1) TKLP , LTKP (2) TSHG
(2) LTKP, GTHS (3) PKLT
(3) TKLP,GTHS (4) KJPQ
(4) TKLP,KPJQ (5) None of these
(5) None of these

(3) TSHG
Q.5 What is code for Arpita ? (4) GTHS
(1) JQKP (5) TGHS
(2) TKLP

Solution: HI Solution
Ajay = KPLT , Ajay = KPLT ,
Ankit = PKTL , Ankit = PKTL ,
Arpit = LTKP . Arpit = LTKP .
Ananya/Anita =GTHS /TGHS Ananya/Anita =GTHS /TGHS
Ayushi = HSGT Ayushi = HSGT
Aaradhna = TSHG Aaradhna = TSHG
Arpita = TKLP Arpita = TKLP
Aaradhye = KPJQ Aaradhye = KPJQ
Ankita = JQKP Ankita = JQKP

Logical substitution coding:

In such coding-decoding type questions every word/alphabet of the sentence is
being coded in certain logic.
There are certain Combination of codes of such questions-
Alphabet and Number
Symbol Number
Alphabet Symbol
Example of Alphabet and Number-
“Reasoning is Interesting” coded as ‘t7i h0r t9r’
“My Success Story” coded as ‘b0n h5h b3h’
Explanation-
Opposite of Last Alphabet and Opposite of 1st alphabet and counting of
alphabets between first and last alphabets.

Example of Symbol and Number-

“My Smart Students” coded as ‘&7 %2 %1’
Pretty Music Status” coded as ‘@7 &3 %1

www.mahendraguru.com
www.mahendraguru.com

Explanation-
Symbols are for first letter of word and the place value of the last letter is being
converted in single digit
Smart
Code for S is % and the place value of last letter T is 20 so (2+0) = 2
So code for Smart is %2
Example of Symbol and Alphabet-
“Chatting With Sameer” coded as ’ Z ** F* J***’
Explanation- (Opposite of first alphabet of the word + 2) and symbols are
representation of number of vowel in the word
Chatting
Opposite of C is X + 2 = Z
the word is having two vowel so two **
So code is Z**
Example-1
Passage
Flake Spa Guards Picked is written as %D6 @S6 #E5 *A3
Ghostly Form Pet Sensed is written as *D6 @Y7 %T3 #M4
Fruits Sell Pure Great is written as *L4 #S6 @T5 %E4
Solution For Problem Give is written as #R3 %M7 *N8 @E4

Solution :
none of these

Passage :
In each of these questions a group of letters is given followed by four
combinations of number/ symbol numbered (1) , (2) , (3) and (4) . Letters are to
be coded as for the scheme and conditions given below. You have to find out
the serial number of the combination, which represent the letter group serial
number of that combination is your answer. If none of the combination is correct
your answer is (5) i.e. None of these.
Letter : Z Y M Q P E T G I A J K L
Number/Symbol Code: % @ 9 5 6 # 4 © 8 3 + s d
Conditions :
I. If both the third and fifith letters are consonant both are to be coded as code
of the fifth letter.
II. If both the first and last letters are vowel both are to be coded as code of the
first letter.
III. If second letter is a consonant and fourth letter is a vowel, then second letter
is to be coded as code of the fourth letter and fourth letter is to be coded as
code of second letter.
