1. Study the quotation given.
" Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies,
it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit."
- Jesus Chris
2. What does the quotation mean?
Jesus’s self-predicted death on the cross. He goes to say, “If
anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there
will my servant be also” (v. 26). So Jesus is suggesting that his
disciples follow him into death.
2. How many clauses do we have? How many are dependent clause? (Read.)
3. How many independent clause the sentence have? (Read)

C. Discussion
1. What is conjunction?
Conjunctions are the words that connect other words,
phrases, and clauses together in a sentence.
2. What is coordinating conjunction?
A conjunction that joins two similarly constructed and/or syntactically
equal words or phrases or clauses within a sentence.
The coordinating conjunctions are and, but, for, nor, or, so, yet.
There are seven coordinating conjunctions, which can be remembered as
follows:
FANBOYS
For - Explains a reason or purpose
And - Adds one thing to another
Nor - Used to present an alternative negative idea
But - Shows contrast
Or - Presents an alternative or choice
Yet - Introduces a contrasting idea that follows the preceding
idea logically
So - Indicates effect, result, or consequence
3. Look at the examples that follow:
 The bowl of squid eyeball stew is hot and delicious.
 The squid eyeball stew is so thick that you can eat it with a fork
or spoon.
 Rocky, my orange tomcat, loves having his head scratched but
hates getting his claws trimmed.
 Rocky terrorizes the poodles next door yet adores the German
shepherd across the street.
 Rocky refuses to eat dry cat food, nor will he touch a saucer of
squid eyeball stew.
 I hate to waste a single drop of squid eyeball stew, for it is
expensive and time-consuming to make.
 Even though I added cream to the squid eyeball stew, Rocky
ignored his serving, so I got a spoon and ate it myself.
D. Practice Exercise
Directions: Fill-in the coordinating conjunctions that fits the sentence to make it
complete. Remember: FANBOYS.
1. This old woman spoke neither Polish _____ Russian. (nor)
