Architectural Design 3 Research Work #1: Urdaneta City University College of Engineering and Architecture

The document is a research paper by Ednalyn M. Turalba from Urdaneta City University College of Engineering and Architecture. It defines interior architecture as the design of interior spaces within a building, including initial design, redesign for changed purposes, and adaptive reuse of existing structures. Interior design is defined as enhancing interior spaces to create a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing environment for users. The key difference between the two is that interior architecture considers all building elements, while interior design focuses on planning and designing interior spaces. The document provides examples of interior design in 3D renderings.

What is Interior Architecture?

Interior Architecture is the design of a space inside any building or shelter type home
that can be fixed. It can also be the initial design and plan for use, then later redesign to
accommodate a changed purpose, or a significantly revised design for adaptive reuse of
the building shell. The latter is often part of sustainable architecture practices,
conserving resources through "recycling" a structure by adaptive redesign. Generally
referred to as the spatial art of environmental design, form and practice, interior
architecture is the process through which the interiors of buildings are designed,
concerned with all aspects of the human uses of structural spaces. Put simply, Interior
Architecture is the design of an interior in architectural terms.

Interior Architecture may refer to:

● The art and science of designing and erecting building interiors as a licensed
architect and related physical features.
● The practice of an interior architect, where architecture means to offer or
render professional services in connection with the design and construction of
a building's interior that has as its principal purpose human occupancy or use.
● A general term to describe building interiors and related physical features.
● A style or method of design and construction of building interiors and related
physical features.

Interior architecture is somewhat of a combination of interior design and architecture.

Conceptually, an interior architects’ main concern is the (re)construction and (re)shaping
of an interior space.

What is Interior Design?

Interior design is the art and science of enhancing the interior of a building to achieve
a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing environment for the people using the space.
An interior designer is someone who plans, researches, coordinates, and manages such
projects. Interior design is a multifaceted profession that includes conceptual
development, space planning, site inspections, programming, research, communicating
with the stakeholders of a project, construction management, and execution of the
design.

Interior designers are creative professionals who use their artistic sense to determine
how to set up an interior space. Interior designers may do some of their work in their
office, but they also need to travel to the location they're designing. Their work hours
can vary and they may be obliged to make their schedule flexible, depending on the
needs of their clients. In addition to creative and artistic talents, they need to be able to
pay close attention to details and possess strong communication skills. They can also be
involved with a building project from the beginning, with less structural aspects to
resolve. Professional interior designers are experienced in planning an existing space and
the room layout.
What is the difference between Interior Architecture and Interior
Design?

Interior architecture is the balancing of the art and science of designing an interior
space taking into account all elements of the building while Interior design is a broad
ranging profession taking into account all aspects of planning and designing interior
spaces in the built environment.
