Introduction
Written for installation with macOS Mojave 10.14.2, Clover v2.4 r4769, Clover Configurator
5.3.2.0, MultiBeast 11.0.1, AppleALC 1.3.3, Lilu 1.2.8, Kext Wizard 3.7.11. For updating to
10.14.4+ make sure to use the latest Clover!

This guide is meant as a minimalistic setup for using Mojave. My purpose is to have a cheap
machine, but still with the amazing interface features of macOS. Therefore, I didn’t install
any additional graphics cards, or CPU coolers, or fans, or RAID disks and so on.

However, if you are looking for a guide to build a high-performance machine, you can use
this as a base guide. Always remember, go step by step. I have failed many times in the past
ten years, by wanting to install everything at once. Keep it simple ;-)

My setup
• MOBO: Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H rev 1.1 with 7 series Intel chipsets
• CPU + GPU: Intel i3770k with integrated Intel HD4000 1,5 GB VRAM - Ivy bridge with
LGA1155 socket aka third generation - 3,5 GHz (3,9 GHz turboboost)
• RAM: Corsair 4GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory modules (CMP8GX3M2A1600C8)
• SSD: Samsung 840 - 250 GB
• HDD: Western Digital WD1002FAEX - 1TB
• OD: Sony Optiarc BD RW BD-5300S Dual Layer BluRay and DVD disk writer
• USB: 2 additional 3,5-inch dual USB 3 port bays (4 USB3 ports in total), installed at
the front
• Logitech M105 optical USB mouse
• Apple Magic Keyboard (connected with USB)
• 2 Full HD LCD screens (1920*1080) (connected with DVI and DP)
• Hercules XPS 2.0 30 DJ Club Speakers (audio jack)
• Trust Starzz Microphone (audio jack)

Prerequisites
1. Another machine with macOS
2. Internet connection
3. USB 3 stick with at least 16 GB space
Installation process
1 Format your USB using Disk Utility with Journaled Extended and GUID as formatting
options. To get the GUID options, make sure all devices are shown. If not, change it in
the Display menu to select all devices and select the master USB device.
2 Follow this guide: https://www.hackintoshzone.com/topic/22840-vanilla-mojave-
hackintosh-with-macpwn/. Tip: don’t fall for the nasty commercial spam! Just
patiently wait for the right pop up to show. The site is filled with nasty tricks, but
when you are patient you can download everything you need ;-)
3 Download the MacPwn bootable USB maker.
https://www.hackintoshzone.com/files/file/1062-macpwn-mojave/
4 Download and copy the Installer file for Mojave in the Applications folder
https://www.hackintosh.computer/1604/download-macos-mojave/
5 Start MacPwn and follow the instructions. When finished you should have a bootable
disk.
6 Restart your computer and press F12
7 Flash your BIOS with F16 ozmosis.

8 Go in to the BIOS and select Load Optimize Defaults
9 Restart and enter your BIOS.
a. Go to M.I.T. > Advanced Frequency Settings and choose Profile1 for XMP
profile.
b. Go to Peripherals and select in Init Display First: IGFX
c. Optional: Go to BIOS Features > Intel Virtualization Technology: enabled
i. I need this to run virtualization software like VirtualBox 6, which works
flawless
10 Restart and press F12 and select your USB stick in UEFI mode: Clover start boot.efi at
Install macOS Mojave
11 You will see the Clover boot screen. Select: Boot macOS Install from Install macOS
Mojave
12 You should see a verbose logging and then after a minute or two the mac OS
installation program should be displayed. If not, remove all external devices, except
for USB mouse and keyboard and retry!
13 First format your macOS drive as Journaled Extended and GUID with Disk Utility.
14 Follow the installation procedure for Mojave.
15 When the process reboots, always select your macOS disk to boot up from. You
should be able to reach the desktop without any issue. It can take a while (20 min)
and some reboots. If you don’t reach the desktop, start again and only follow strict
necessary procedure!
16 Download and install Clover v2.4 r4769 on your macOS drive and only select:
Installation for UEFI motherboards
17 Download Clover Configurator. Open it and select in the left Tab menu: Mount EFI.
Then mount the two EFI partitions of your MacPwn installation USB and your macOS
drive.
18 Copy all the folders inside the root EFI folder from the MacPwn installation USB to
the root EFI directory of your macOS disk drive. Make sure to remove all folders
inside your EFI Folder of your macOS drive first!
19 Edit the config.plist inside EFI > CLOVER of your macOS drive
a. Boot:
i. No verbose logging (Arguments section)
ii. Default startup drive: macOS
iii. No timeout: 0
iv. XMPDetection = Yes
b. Graphics
i. Inject Intel
20 Eject the USB via Finder and remove it from your mac. Reboot.
21 Go in your BIOS and in BIOS features only select: UEFI: <Your macOS drive>. Remove
all the others to be sure you will boot up from your macOS drive. Save and reboot.
22 You should be able now to start up your mac without USB! Some important tweaks
still have to be done.
23 Download MultiBeast. The first for each macOS version will become available around
the start of December. If you want to be sure to have a good and easy install with
more and stable options, wait until January. I did mine mid-December 2018.
24 Open MultiBeast (feel free to find a separate kext for the Atheros driver):
a. Drivers:
i. Disk
1. 3rd Party SATA
2. 3rd Party eSATA
ii. Network
1. Atheros
a. AtherosE2200Ethernet v2.2.2
25 Ethernet interface: the lowest one on the back of your mac is en0 and is the good
one meaning that on wake internet is still there. It is the Atheros one! With the intel
one, no internet on wake! So be sure to plug in the ethernet cable in the lowest of
the two slots ;-)
26 Download Kext Wizard. Install following kext with Kext Wizard:
a. Installation tab
i. AppleALC
ii. Lilu
b. Maintenance
i. Select: System/Library/Extensions and select Execute
27 Reboot
28 Select in System preferences > Audio > Output your output device. I use the analog
green socket on the back of my mac (Internal speakers) and it works perfect
29 Select in System preferences > Network and configure your ethernet card as you
wish. There should only be one displayed!
30 Update to 10.14.2 or 10.14.3 (no beta stuff!)
31 If you want to update to 10.14.4 or a higher version, you need to update Clover first!
32 Enjoy J
Working Out of the box
• Full Graphics acceleration QE/CI on internal Intel HD4000 with two screens
connected with both 1920*1080: one DVI and other DisplayPort
• Turbo boost and stepping (1,6 -> 3,9): tested with Intel Power Gadget
• Sleep and wake functionality
• XMP 1600 MHz mode
• USB
o USB 3:
§ 4 USB3 ports on 2 front bays provided with motherboard work full
speed without any patch
§ 4 USB3 ports on rear work full speed without any patch
o USB 2
§ 2 USB2 ports on front work without any patch
§ 2 USB2 ports on back work without any patch
• iMessage and iCloud: no configuration needed
• APFS enabled by default
• SATA: Just plugged in one mechanical hard drive and it was directly working without
any patch. Other SATA ports not tested.
• eSATA: on the front it works. When I plug an eSATA cable in the back, my macOS
won’t start at all…

Working after some kext installation

• Audio: no glitches at all.
o Back default green output and pink input work. Tested with boxes and
microphone.
o Front output and input work. Tested with headphone and microphone
• Atheros ethernet: Connected with gigabit cable and reached speeds of 900 Mb/s!

Notes
1 Wake just takes 7 J
2 Sleep can take up to 40 seconds. On Sierra it took 5, but honestly, I don’t care why it
takes so long. It works every time and wake also
3 In software updates, disable the Developer Seed program. Also disable automatic
updating your mac… You never know ;-)
4 Change the computer name in: Settings > Sharing
5 For trim support: In system overview it shows no, but when you install with APFS it is
automatically enabled. When you do enable the old way, namely sudo trimforce
enable, the system won’t boot up anymore! Even with the USB stick L
Good to know
Add alias for terminal to show and hide files:

Go to terminal and type in the home folder: nano .bash_profile

Add these two lines and save:

alias showFiles='defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YES; killall Finder

/System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app'
alias hideFiles='defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles NO; killall Finder
/System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app'

Type in source .bash_profile. Now the commands showFiles and hideFiles are enabled in
terminal.

Report other versions to work

• Z77X-UD5H-WB rev 1.0 with stock bios
o Possible problems with Atheros ethernet connection
o Possible problems with WiFi and Bluetooth connection

Special thanks
There are so many people who made this possible and should be thanked. It is just amazing
that I could realize a machine with macOS for free! So really, to everyone who contributed to
anything on this guide here: I love you. If you were a chick, I would buy you some chocolate,
and if you were a dude, some beer of course ;-)

Good luck!
