Electrifilter: A Review Paper

Electrifilter is a device that generates electricity out of waste water made by

Filipino Electronics Engineering students. This idea stated when John Paul Santos
noticed the waste water in Pasig River which is near to his school, the Polytechnic
University of the Philippines, he had thought of using such water to generate electricity.
Together with fellow Electronics Engineering student Christian sta. Romana, developed
a device called Electrifilter, or electricity generator from filthy water , which does exactly
what is called. The technology relies on the wires at the top layer of the filter, which
reacts once bacteria from dirty water passes through hence releasing energy . This is
where the bio electrochemical process takes place. Electrifilter can produce enough
electricity power to LED lights, Lamps post, Energy stations and Security system and
can divert the excess energy to the main power grid. The device can also be useful in
home sewage and industrial plants that diverts waster to creeks and river. Another
feature or that device is that it turns the waste that was separated from the water into
natural fertilizer. The device is designed to be portable in order to provide electricity and
clean water to remote areas in times of floods and typhoons . The PVP tags teams
intend this product for use calamity-stricken and remotes areas in the Philippines where
the is an unfortunate simple amount of waste water . A global specialist in energy
management and automation Schneider Electric helped the two in developing the
device. Because of the ingenuity of Electrifilter , it gained a third place award in the
arrival ' Go Green in the city ' held in Paris in 2015 among 12 regional champions. The
Electrifilter they have made is still on its beta phase. It is still being improve obtain the
target of producing 1 watt from 1.5 liters of waste water, while it is seeking help to
secure a patent. Sta. Romana , who was born in Negros Occidental , is a Scholar of
science and technology Department . She says Electrifilter one fully developed, would
help communities produce electricity during calamities such as floods . Santos on the
other hand who lives in Antipolo City , Says he look forward to working with Schneider
Electric in the future . The inventor says that the device is still a work in progress . They
said that electricity generations does not only depend on water. There are number of
principles involved but can't disclose all the principles because the research is ongoing.
This product amazed us by how it looks and how it was done. Elictrifilter is a
portable invention that we can easily carry anytime and anywhere. However, this
invention is still ongoing, so we can’t state the parts and materials that is used to
complete the whole device. We can’t also find out the principles included in this
invention but we can say that Electrifilter is very helpful. This device is very useful today
because it has many purposes. It can cleanse the water from a dirty one. It also
generates electricity from the waste water that could help us, people in terms of
encountering calamities. We propose to use this invention today especially now in our
situation. We can’t deny that our country is facing many problems including polluted
water. So we suggest to have a bigger version of this device, it can produce bigger
amount of current for the provision of all residence especially for those people who don’t
have the opportunity of having electricity in their homes. Bigger version can also gives
us advantages like it can decrease the price of electricity and lowers the percentage of
water pollution. We also suggest to improve the flexibility of Electrifilter to fit wherever
place we can put it. Also if Electrifilter will be produced and put in a specific location,
maintenance of some laws about throwing trashes properly is a must to avoid damages
to the device. However, in our country that is infamous for corruption and poverty some
observers have expressed fears that this “very useful and badly needed invention” could
end up being sold to other nations, licensed and patented under a foreigner’s
name. Especially, since local inventors receive very little or no support from the
government that is preoccupied with mundane matters such as political infightings. The
two young Filipino inventors are now being recognized in international competitions
giving the country more prestige and glory. But unless the government gives its full
support to them, these great young talents could end up nowhere while others would
opt to migrate in other countries. Without the government’s full support, young inventors
like Santos and Sta. Romana could end up working for other countries as others before
them also did in the past.
Electrifilter is highly suggested to use today because we believe that this

device is very useful. The government must also give support to develop and give
privilege to extricate this device in our country. This device must be funded in order to
enhance and develop its parts and to determine the perfect principles includes in this
device. It helps us not only in our environment but also to us, people. We highly
recommend that this invention must be produced and must provide different locations in
this country. Because the cleaner our environment, the better our life is.
