Cinderella Drama Adaptation 2007

The mice gather in the kitchen to tell the story of Cinderella. Cinderella does all the housework while her stepmother and stepsisters Leena and Viola make her life difficult. Cinderella is invited to the Prince's ball but her invitation is torn up by her stepsisters. The fairy godmothers transform Cinderella so she can attend the ball, where she dances with the Prince. Leena and Viola also attend but fight over who will dance with the Prince first.

PROLOGUE – Mouse Talk – The Kitchen

ALL MICE: Cheese! Cheese! Cheese!

MAIN MOUSE: Do we want some?

ALL MICE: Ooh yes please!

MAIN MOUSE: What do we want?

ALL MICE: We want cheese!

MAIN MOUSE: Wait a minute! We’re not just here for cheese, you know.

ALL MICE: We’re not?

MAIN MOUSE: Certainly not. We’re here to tell the tale.

TIPTOE: Tail? Whose tail? (They examine their tails, puzzled.)

MAIN MOUSE: Not that sort of tail! I’m talking about the STORY!

ALL MICE: It is?

MAIN MOUSE: Yep. We’re here to tell about a girl called Cinderella. Hip, hip…

ALL MICE: HURRAY!

MAIN MOUSE: Hip, hip…

ALL MICE: HURRAY!

MAIN MOUSE: SHHHHHH! I think I hear something… It’s Grabber! Run for

your lives! (They scatter and hide themselves in terror.)

CINDERELLA

SCENE 1: Poor Cinderella – The Kitchen

GRABBER: MIAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOW! MICE! I hate them!

MIAAAOOW!

(Enter Cinderella.)

CINDERELLA: Grabber, get away from that mice!

Could you stop bullying the mice?

GRABBER: I like bullying mice!

CINDERELLA: How could you? Poor things, you should love them.

GRABBER: I do. I love EATING them… MIAAAOOOOW!

CINDERELLA: You naughty cat! Go away! Go away!

GRABBER: Miaw-huh… (GRABBER runs out.)

(The MICE enter quietly.)

(CINDERELLA begins to dust the furniture.)

(Enters BUTTONS, carrying a tray and three large envelopes.)

BUTTONS: Good morning, Cinderella. House work again?

CINDERELLA: Yes, Buttons. House work again!

MAIN MICE: YES! Cinderella does all the house work! Like…

SKWEEK: Making the bed!

TIPTOE: Watering the plants!

LONGTAIL: Folding the clothes!

WETNOSE: Setting the table!

SNITCH: Clearing the table!

CINDERELLA: AND, sweeping the floor!

BUTTONS: I’ve got something. A surprise!!! (He hands her an envelope.)

BUTTONS: The prince is holding a party! He will choose a wife.

CINDERELLA: What? Can I go?

BUTTONS: Yes, of course! You are invited!

CINDERELLA: I can’t believe it!

(Off stage, LEENA and VIOLA shout for CINDERELLA.)

SISTERS: CIN----DER----E----LLAAAAAAA!!!

CINDERELLA: Oh no! My sisters...

BUTTONS: Your STEP-sisters.

CINDERELLA: Well, yes… They want their breakfast…

BUTTONS: Come on. Be happy, Cinderella!

CINDERELLA: Thank you, Buttons.

SCENE 2: GREAT NEWS – The Kitchen

(Enter SISTERS.)

LEENA: Where’s Cinderella?

VIOLA: You didn’t bring us breakfast!

LEENA: And the fire is not lit!

STEPMOTHER: How dare Cinderella?

VIOLA & LEENA: CINDERELLA….

(They search all the corners but no one responds.)

STEPMOTHER: CIN---DE---RE---LAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

(Suddenly, Cinderella comes out.)

STEPMOTHER: Ah…You scared me. How dare you?

LEENA: Cinderella, there you are!

VIOLA: You didn’t bring us breakfast!

LEENA: WHY?

VIOLA: WAIT… What are you holding behind your back?

CINDERELLA: Nothing…

STEPMOTHER: Have you stolen anything? Come on, hand it over!

LEENA & VIOLA: Hand it over!

BUTTONS: It’s just the invitation to a party.

STEPMOTHER: What? It’s just the invitation to a party. I can’t believe it!

BUTTONS: You have it too!

SISTERS: O, really?

VIOLA: (to Cinderella) You want to go to the party, too?

SISTERS: Hahaha…

LEENA: HAND IT OVER!

BUTTONS: Don’t do it, Cinderella…

(VIOLA snatches it.)

STEPMOTHER: Destroy it!

VIOLA: Yes, dear mother!

CINDERELLA: No. It’s mine!

(Stepmother examines it and tears it up.)

VIOLA: WAS yours, you mean.

CINDERELLA: Viola… That’s bad!!!

LEENA: Oh… really? But I think Viola is great!

SISTERS: Hahahahahaha…… Buttons, come with us. (They exit.)

TIPTOE: Terrible. Anyone got a tissue?

WETNOSE: Poor Cinderella…

ALL MICE: Don’t be too upset, Cinderella. We’re here with you…

CINDERELLA: Thank you, my little friends… you are so sweet!

SCENE 3: The Transformation – The Kitchen

(There is a rumble of thunder. FAIRY GODMOTHERS enters.)

GODMOTHER 1: Cinderella – We are Fairy Godmothers

GODMOTHER 2: We’ve come to grant you a wish!

CINDERELLA: A wish????

GODMOTHER 3: A WISH!!! Come on, make a wish!

CINDERELLA: Well… I want to go to the party!

GODMOTHERS: GOOD! You shall go to the party!

(Light changes and Music. CINDERELLA is undergoing a transformation)

GODMOTHERS: You shall go to the party!!!

You shall go to the PARTY!!!

A fairy coach, a fancy dress, and pretty shoes –

Cinderella becomes a real princess.

Goodbye, Cinderella. Don’t forget –

Make sure you leave before twelve o’clock!

SCENE 4: Having a Party – The Palace Ballroom

MAIN MOUSE: Now, we’re in the Prince’s Party! OH… the two step-sisters are

coming!

ALL MICE: (Announcing) Lady Leena and Lady Viola!

(Enter LEENA and VIOLA.)

LEENA: Am I pretty?

VIOLA: OF COURSE, you are!!!

PRINCE: Who are they?

GARY: I don’t know.

TERRY: They are so ugly…

LEENA: OH!!! The Prince!!! Look! Prince Charming!

VIOLA: I’ll have the first dance!

LEENA: Me, you mean!

(They push each other.)

PRINCE: What are they doing?

GARY: I think …they are fighting.

ALL MICE: Princess Crystal from the Treasure Island!

(Enter CINDERELLA.)

PRINCE: Oh! She’s beautiful!

GARY: Well, sir, ask her to dance.

PRINCE: I will. Er – excuse me, Your Highness. May I?

CINDERELLA: Of course.

PRINCE: MUSIC….

(CINDERELLA and the PRINCE dance.)

PRINCE: It’s very nice to meet you.

CINDERELLA: It’s very nice to meet you, too!

GODMOTHERS: The midnight hour has come at last!

The magic spell is weakening fast.

CINDERELLA: Oh no! Is that the time?

ALL MICE: Well, time flies!

CINDERELLA: I must go…

(CINDERELLA exits.)

PRINCE: Come back! At least give me your address!

Or your MSN!

(Gary and Terry run after Cinderella and come back in a few seconds)

GARY: Too late, sir.

TERRY: BUT, she left this!

PRINCE: A shoe! A shoe! Right! I know! Who can wear this shoe will be

my wife!

GARY: Are you sure?

TERRY: Let me try! I could be a princess.

PRINCE: Stop being silly! We’ll find her!

(All exit.)

SCENE 5: The Shoe Fits – The Kitchen

(The SISTERS are waiting to try on the shoe. A knock at the door.)

BUTTONS: Look! It’s Prince!

LEENA: That’s him!

STEPMOTHER: Mind your manners! Be a LADY!!!

(Enter PRINCE, GARY & TERRY with the shoe on a cushion.)

VIOLA: Oh! He’s handsome!

PRINCE: Good Morning, ladies.

LEENA: He spoke to me, he spoke to me!

STEPMOTHER: Hmm…hmmm, hmm, manners, girls!

PRINCE: Right, let’s be quick! Shall we?

STEPMOTHER: Yes, your highness. Your highness, you are so …HANDSOME!

PRINCE: Let’s be quick. Who’s first?

STEPMOTHER: ME!

ALL: WHAT?

STEPMOTHER: Yes, can I try?

PRINCE: No, It’s for young ladies only. Thanks!

PRINCE: That’s life!

STEPMIOTHER: Fine!

SISTERS: Me! Me! MEEEEEE!!!

PRINCE: OK! Alphabetical order.

LEENA: Hah! Me, first!

(She snatched it and tries it on without success.)

PRINCE: Sorry. Next!

VIOLA: It’s my turn.

(She tries on the shoe. She hobbles around with it on her toe.)

VIOLA: They are Perfect!

PRINCE: Nonsense. It is too small. Nobody else?

STEPMOTHER,

SISTERS: That’s right. Nobody else!

BUTTONS: Oh yes, there is.

& SISTERS: Shut up! No, there isn’t!

BUTTONS: Oh yes, there is! (Calls) CINDERELLA! Come out!

CINDERELLA!

STEPMOTHER: Cinderella? Why Cinderella? No, no one will want to see that

dirty little girl!

PRINCE: No, I want to see everybody, no matter she is clean or dirty!

STEPMOTHER: But that’s not fair!

PRINCE: But that’s MY ORDER!

STEPMOTHER: Yes, your highness…., of course, your highness.

BUTTONS: Come out, Cinderella…

(CINDERELLA enters hesitantly.)

CINDERELLA: Did someone call? (See PRINCE.) Oh – it’s you!

PRINCE: It’s her! I know I’ll find you!

BUTTONS: Cinderella. Try on the shoe.

(CINDERELLA tries on the shoe. A drum rolls. The action freezes. Enter Mice.)

MAIN MOUSE: Hip, hip…

ALL MICE: HURRAY!
