Lab exercise 1

Create your first workflow with a make call operation.

Welcome to the Avaya Engagement Designer bootcamp. You will now create
your first workflow. This Lab exercise conducts you to create a workflow that
performs a make call operation.

This is a preview of Lab Exercise #1 workflow after its completion:

Task 1 Access Avaya Engagement Designer console

Situation
An already installed System Manager with Avaya Breeze and
Avaya Engagement Designer snap-in properly integrated.

Access the web-based interface of Avaya Engagement


Designer console that is available via SMGR and get ready for creating your first
workflow.

This particular task is executed every time you need access to create a workflow
via Avaya Engagement Designer.

Task Instructions
1. The instructor will assign a Student/Pod number to you.
2. Follow the Step-By-Step Instructions; be aware that the specific values in the Step-
By-Step Guide, such as IP Addresses or extensions, are just examples. Use the
documentation provided to find out the specific IP Addresses, machine names and
Communication Addresses for your Lab Exercises.

3. Go to your instructor in case something in your Lab Exercise doesn’t work as
expected.
4. This Step-by-Step guide instructs to change, add, select of modify only the values
that are related to each Exercise, what is not specifically indicated to be changed,
must not be changed.

Procedure:

Gain Access to System Manager (SMGR) though the following steps.

1. Open a Web Browser HTTPS session to SMGR

2. Enter your Credentials as provided by instructor for this lab

3. Click on the option Avaya Breeze under Elements and then select Cluster
Administration.

4. From the list of clusters, go the Engagement Designer Pool assigned to you
and select the option Designer Console URL from the Service URL drop list.

5. A new tab is loaded with the Avaya Engagement Designer interface.

Task 2 Create workflow with a make call task

Situation
Avaya Engagement Designer offers a web-
based graphical user interface, with drag
and drop capability, to develop and
deploy high value workflows.

This tool is complaint with BPMN


(Business Process Modeling and Notation)
and is an Avaya Breeze snap-in.

In this task, you must create a workflow with a simple make call operation in
order to get familiarity with the Avaya Engagement Designer canvas.

Procedure:

1. Gain access to Avaya Engagement Designer as described by previous task 1.

2. Select from palette in the left the sub-group Telephony Communications and expand it. Search
for the Make Call task, select it and then drag and drop it to the Canvas.

3. Now identify the Events sub-group in the palette and expand it. Search for the End event, select
it, and as well drag and drop this event to canvas as indicated in the following picture.

4. Now, you should connect all components of the workflow. First, connect the Start event to the
Make Call task. Hover your mouse on top of the Start event until a blue icon with an arrow is
presented, you should click on this icon and drag a dotted green line that appears to the Make
Call task. When you drop the line to the Make Call task (highlighted in green), the connection is
created.

5. You should now connect the Make call task to the End event in a very similar way.

6. Double click on the Make Call task in the Canvas in order to open its Properties window. You
will now set manually the values for Calling Party (originator), Called Party (destination) and
Caller ID. Enter valid data following lab information indicated by the instructor including
handle@domain format as appropriate (Depending on your lab resources, you may want to
fulfill the called party number with your cell phone information). Press OK when you are ready.

7. Save your workflow selecting the “Save workflow” icon in the left top bar corner. Provide a
name and location to save it.

Task 3 Deploy your workflow and test it

Situation
Now that you have created your basic workflow, you must deploy it to the Avaya Breeze
environment and test it. This workflow will be started manually via Admin Console interface.

Procedure:

1. From the Avaya Engagement Designer interface with your workflow opened, search on the left
top bar corner for the Deploy Workflow icon and click it. Provide a workflow file name and
confirm with OK button.

2. Now that your workflow is successfully deployed, gain Access to Admin Console through the
Avaya Engagement Designer interface. Search on the right top bar corner for the Admin Console
option and click it. Note that you might need to maximize your browser window or expand the
top bar in order to find the Admin Console option.

3. Go to the new Admin Console tab that is loaded. Select your workflow from the list of
Workflows tab and click on Create Instance to start your workflow. Confirm the windows
message that says this workflow does not have any variable data to be mapped and then a new
instance is created.

4. Verify if a make call operation is performed to the configured called party number in the
workflow. The configured Telephone or device should receive a call.
