Dustin to her side since she cannot face the truth that an Elf
becomes the subordinate of a Dwarf

she has toward her husband

ACT I
Scene 1
On an unknown sea

Bjarke, Dustin, Gunnarson and Runa are fighting Kraken

One of the tentacles grips their boat

ALL
Kraken!
Light on

Runa is trying to slash the Kraken’s tentacle over and over

Bjarke is doing the same
Dustin is firing the Kraken with his bow
Gunnarson is praying to God

RUNA
By Ragna and Ylva! This tentacle is hard like coral!

DUSTIN
My arrows are rendered useless! Its skin is like that of a thousand
year tree‟s bark.

GUNNARSON
Leave resistance! Submit to God!

RUNA
Shut up, Gunnarson! Use that brawly muscle of yours to smack this
thing!

GUNNARSON
Prayer is the most powerful weapon!

RUNA
You will pray in Hell if you don‟t lend us a hand!

GUNNARSON
O-Okay!

BJARKE
I‟ll help you cut it, Runa!
(slashes the tentacle)

Every time Bjarke slashes the tentacle, a shout from the sword is
heard

INGRID
Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!

BJARKE
S-Sorry, Ingrid. I thought you would be fine as you‟re now a sword.

INGRID
Sorry, Bjarke. I don‟t get used to be a sword yet. I need to get
some more experiences. That‟s fine. You can swing me as you want!

4
BJARKE
O-Okay!

RUNA
It‟s useless!

BJARKE
Oh! I remembered how to defeat a Kraken! The Thunderstorm Anthem!

DUSTIN
That‟s it! You‟re right, Bjarke! That song could bring a thunderous
headache to any living creature! Let‟s do it! Put your hands on your
ears! Elf‟s ears could handle it but yours won‟t!
(plays his harp)

BJARKE
You, too, Ingrid!

INGRID
I am a sword.

BJARKE
Oh. Okay.

GUNNARSON
Here we go! Say your prayers!

RUNA
We‟re not going to die, dammit!

DUSTIN
Silence and listen! No! Don‟t listen to it!

As Dustin begins to sing, the Kraken screams in pain

The waves are roaring and shaking the boat
Thunders are soaring

INGRID
(screams)
The pain! The pain! The pain!

BJARKE
I told you to close your ears.

INGRID
Which part of my body is the ears?

BJARKE
I-I don‟t know. I know. I‟ll sheate you!
(sheates Ingrid)

The Kraken in pain leaves the party

BJARKE
Thanks, Dustin. That‟s one hell of a show.

5
GUNNARSON
Peace comes at last.

RUNA
I never expected that your song would actually save us.

DUSTIN
They hail me Dustin Leafless
An Elf born to ignite caress
A gentleman with wits and prowess
With a harp he’ll end any madness

INGRID
Yeah! Dustin! I‟ll sing!

GUNNARSON
I‟ll do the drumming on this barrel!

INGRID
Okay. Here we go!
He’s Dustin, a woman-fearing Elf
Bearing a bow to frighten any ill-self
He’s Leafless, a clan of pretty boys
Attracting ladies like kids for a toy.

DUSTIN
Nice rhyme but is that a compliment?

BJARKE
My turn!
When you let dust in, you’ll meet Dustin
A man of virtue, regretting his sin
Never question him as he’s a good kin
Meeting a Kraken, he gave it a pin

DUSTIN
That‟s my chief for you. Hail, Bjarke! What about you, Runa? Won‟t
you sing a song for our victory against the mythical Kraken?

RUNA
I hate singing!

GUNNARSON
Sing, Runa, and it will make you peaceful.

BJARKE
A line is okay.

INGRID
Runa! Runa! Runa!

ALL EXCEPT RUNA

Runa! Runa! Runa!

6
RUNA
Shut up!

A song is heard from a distance

DUSTIN
Did you hear that? Is that you singing, Runa?
(yawns)

RUNA
I‟m here, idiot!
(yawns)

GUNNARSON
The voice is calming.
(yawns)

BJARKE
Wait! This is Mermaid‟s Hymn! Close your ears!

Everyone falls asleep

BJARKE
W-Wait...
(falls asleep)

INGRID
(yawns)
I feel so sleepy...

Black out
Light on

The light shoots Bjarke and his party

One by one they are awaken from their slumber

BJARKE
Wh-Where are we? It‟s so dark.

RUNA
We fell asleep...

DUSTIN
That song. The song we heard lullabied us.

GUNNARSON
I have a simple answer: we die and this is hereafter.

INGRID
Oh bummer! Bjarke and I haven‟t married yet. But, this. Okay. We can
marry in Heaven.

SOL
Wanna know where you are now?

7
RUNA
Show me yourself!

SOL
Of course I will show you myself because you are all in my show!
Welcome to Merworld! Light on!

The light shoots the entire stage

Sol on his throne and two mermaids accompanying by his side are seen

DUSTIN
Mer-Mermaid?

BJARKE
How could I forget it? The map indicated the picture of a merman
after the picture of a Kraken.

SOL
Bravo! You‟re hunting Brisingamen. You have to face four challenges:
Kraken, Merworld, the Divine Storm, and the Dragon. Now, you are in
my world, the Merworld, and my name‟s...

VINSTRI
S-O-L

RETT
SOL!

VINSTRI AND RETT

It’s Sol! It’s Sol! It’s Sol!
It’s all! It’s all!
Everyone knows Sol!
Sol knows it all!
It’s Sol! It’s Sol! It’s Sol!
That’s all! That’s all!
All hail Sol the Merking!

SOL
Thank you, Vinstri and Rett. That was too much.

RUNA
What did you want from us, weirdo?

SOL
That Undead sure has some tongue.

RUNA
If you want me to fight you, just spit it! Make it quick!

SOL
Mermen hate fighting! We love singing and dancing!

DUSTIN
Me too!

8
GUNNARSON
I love praying.

RUNA
Cut the crap! I‟ll be your requiem.

SOL
If you are so eager to fight, try me!

RUNA
My pleasure!

BJARKE
Runa!

As Runa attempts to strike Sol, he snaps his finger

Black out
Light on
Runa turns into fish in a jar
Sol holds it

BJARKE
Wh-What have you done to Runa?

SOL
It‟s called fishification; turning a living thing into fish. (the
bottle is shaking) Goodness! Even as small cute fish, this Undead is
annoying!

INGRID
Hey, I am actually a Human but some weird yet quite handsome wizard
turned me into a sword. Could you somehow dispel this spell?

SOL
Oh. That‟s interesting. Wait! Dark energy is coming from you. I have
ever sensed this energy before...

VINSTRI
R-A-U-L

RETT
RAUL!

SOL
Yeah!

INGRID
That‟s the name of the wizard.

SOL
That wizard and some of weirdos faced my challenges also and they
won.

GUNNARSON
Awesome!

9
BJARKE
We competed with them with a promise to return Ingrid and her mother
to their former self as the prize. We need to hasten ourselves.

SOL
I cannot dispel the magic embedded on that sword. That wizard was
sure inhumane, creepy. I was trembling before him. He won my
challenge like it was nothing. But, I can dispel this fish lady so
that she could assist you in my challenge.

BJARKE
Thank you so much.

SOL
(snaps his fingers)

Black out
Light on
Runa returns to her human form

DUSTIN
Runa! You‟re back!

GUNNARSON
How does it feel to be fish? You look so cute.

RUNA
Shut up!

BJARKE
We need to focus on the challenge.

SOL
You must be their leader. A wise one. Okay. My challenge is simple.
Ask me one question! If I can‟t answer it, you win the game! I‟ll
give you three chances. Failure in optimizing the chances means your
inability to return to the Human world. In a simple word, you‟ll be
dead.

RUNA
Are you God that you imply to know everything?

SOL
Goddess Freya, the creator of Brisingamen, has bestowed me a
„special‟ ability so I have more knowledge than you. After all I
have spent more than a millenia. That number means a lot in the
perspectives of knowledge.

RUNA
It‟s not fair I think to do a battle of wits between a mortal and an
immortal.

10
SOL
Well, it‟s up to you. Do my challenge or don‟t do it. It‟s all in
your hands. I am just doing my job. I am bored also actually for
doing this job for hundreds of years. Killing lots of treasure
hunters, pirates, kings, nobles, anyone aiming for Brisingamen. That
wizard Raul and his company were the first men successful in
completing my challenge.

BJARKE
If the wizard and Bergljot could pass this test, it means we still
have a chance though it‟s slim.

DUSTIN
Bjarke was right. Let‟s deal with it.

GUNNARSON
In peace.

INGRID
Bring it on!

RUNA
It‟s lunatic.

SOL
You‟re runatic.
(laughs)

RUNA
Damn you! You‟ll reget it, big fish! Tell me about me!

BJARKE
Runa!

SOL
(concentrates)
This will be a sad story. Vinstri, Rett! Please, play a sad melody.

Vinstri and Rett play their harp in a sad tune

SOL
Runa the Silent. Your real name is Astrid Edelweiss. An Undead from
Edelweiss Clan. You don‟t drink blood like other Undeads because you
are a vegan, a vegetarian, a herbivore. Something your family
supported but not by the clan. You love vegetables so much that you
cut your fangs. You changed your name into Runa because your friends
pronounced „Astrid‟ into „Ass-rid‟. That‟s savage, a verbal
brutality. Some of your friends even pronounced it „Ass-treat‟. What
a brutal way of pronouncing names. Even...

RUNA
Shut up! Shut up!

SOL
Sure, Astrid. Please, stop the music.

11
DUSTIN
It‟s truly sad, „Ass‟ err Runa.

GUNNARSON
Your friends need a strict education. Even they couldn‟t pronounce
your names well. Are Undeads under education that they pronounced
„Astrid‟ into „Ass-Trid‟. They should wipe their ass for that.

RUNA
One more words, I‟ll smack your own ass!

SOL
Two more chances.

BJARKE
We need to think this carefully. Can we discuss this, first,
Merking?

SOL
Take your time. We will close our ears.

Bjarke and his comrades are discussing the question

DUSTIN
What should we ask, Bjarke?

BJARKE
What question might the wizard and Bergljot ask that it made them
pass the challenge? Think about that.

GUNNARSON
Bergljot is a narcissist so she might ask him about fashion and
cosmetics.

INGRID
Ask him about calculation!

RUNA
It will not be that simple.

GUNNARSON
Or ask him a riddle!

DUSTIN
A riddle! That‟s a good idea!

RUNA
A riddle about calculation, that will be better!

INGRID
Agreed!

BJARKE
Wait! I think I know how to deal with this challenge!

12
RUNA
What‟s it, Bjarke?

BJARKE
Everyone, I want you to trust me. I cannot tell you all my plan. But
I want you to trust me.

INGRID
I trust you, dear.

RUNA
We trust you as always.

BJARKE
Okay. Let‟s finish this.

SOL
Ready with a question?

BJARKE
Yes.

SOL
Then, say it. I am concentrating on it.

BJARKE
What did Raul and his company ask to you that they passed the
challenge?

SOL
(shocked)
Goodness! You‟ve got me.

BJARKE
You have the answer, right?

SOL
Okay. I will answer it but I am not allowing you to ask me the same
question as what they asked.

BJARKE
Deal.

SOL
The haughty looking lady Bergljot asked me, “How deep is my beauty?”
That‟s it. You cannot ask me the same question.

RUNA
Is that even a question?

BJARKE
We won.

SOL
You haven‟t asked anything!

13
BJARKE
“Will Ingrid be my wife?”

SOL
You won.

RUNA
Take that, blob!

GUNNARSON
What is your answer, Ingrid?

INGRID
God‟s willing.

SOL
You‟re one astute Human, Bjarke.

BJARKE
You could only answer a question which already has an answer. You
couldn‟t answer a question in which the questioner himself is
confused of the answer. That special ability Goddess Freya was
giving to you is mind-reading, right?

SOL
Great! Simply great! It‟s true! I cannot answer a question with no
answer as all I can do is to read what people think. It‟s to Human‟s
nature in common to ask a question which already has an answer.
That‟s not a question. This type of „question‟ is the source of war
in Human‟s world.

GUNNARSON
So philosophical. So we need to ask a question to which we‟re
blurred for the answer to bring peace to the world.

SOL
I read your mind, Bjarke, before you asked me a question and I
was surprised. I planned to revise the game rules to profit me but
it would give me a bad name as a Merking. Congratulation! You pass.

BJARKE
Thanks, Merking.

SOL
Bjarke, before you leave, I need to give you a suggestion.

BJARKE
That would honor me, Merking.

SOL
Ragna and Ylva.

INGRID
The mythical pair. Our role models.

14
SOL
You will meet them if you pass all of the challenges and you will
learn that a fairy tale is not always a tale.

BJARKE
Thank you, Merking.

SOL
Off you go, now. Safe journey!

Black out
Light on

The party returns to their boat

DUSTIN
I saw two Mermaids with one giant Merman. We did a question-answer
game and won.

GUNNARSON
If that‟s a dream, it‟s one weird yet peaceful dream as I saw Runa
turning into fish and her real name is „Astrid‟.

RUNA
Shut up!

BJARKE
That‟s not a dream but that‟s not a reality.

INGRID
I feel so cold so sudden. My steel body is shaking.

RUNA
You‟re right, Ingrid. The wind is getting harder.

DUSTIN
(takes a telescope)
By All-Leaf! It‟s STORM!

GUNNARSON
Challenge number three begins!

RUNA
Take your oars and row like hell!

GUNNARSON
Row like heaven!

RUNA
Shut up!

BJARKE
On your position, everyone! I‟ll sheathe you so that cold and rain
won‟t rust you, dear.

15
INGRID
Thanks, sweetheart.

As Bjarke wants to sheathe Ingrid, it falls and hits Gunnarson

GUNNARSON
Ouch! It hurts!
(runs forward backward in pain)

BJARKE
I‟m sorry! I‟m sorry, Gunnar. Sit down. Let me check your foot.

As Gunnarson sits down, the boat shakes and causes Dustin to fall
into the sea

BJARKE
Dustin!

DUSTIN
Help! Help! Help!

GUNNARSON
I am sorry, Dustin.

RUNA
(offers Dustin an oar to grab)
Grab the oar!

Dustin leaps onto the boat

DUSTIN
Elves should learn how to row not only how to bow.

RUNA
Tend to your wound and row, Gunnarson!
(shocked) Darn it! Here comes the storm! Brace yourself! Row with
everything you‟ve got!

GUNNARSON
We will not die. We will only rest in peace.

BJARKE
Lie down and hold on something!

INGRID
Bjarke!

A gust of wind flies Ingrid away

BJARKE
Ingrid!

DUSTIN
My lord! Ingrid!

16
GUNNARSON
Ingrid!

RUNA
Bjarke! Lie down!

BJARKE
But, Ingrid!

INGRID
Save yourself, dear! If we‟re destined to be together, we‟ll be
together! Accomplish your mission!

BJARKE
Ingrid!

Ingrid is gone
They lie down on the boat to save them from the storm
Black out
The sea becomes peaceful

Light on

Bjarke and his comrades are seen

They look exhausted
Bergljot and Hemming are seen stranded on Bjarke‟s boat

BJARKE
Ingrid...

DUSTIN
Should we seek for her, first?

GUNNARSON
I‟ll do what you command, Bjarke.

RUNA
No!

BJARKE
But, Ingrid...

RUNA
She begged you to accomplish the mission, first. If you two are pre-
ordained to be husband and wife, no ill fate will severe that bond!
Trust me, Bjarke! Reaching Skyslumber is our priority! We have dealt
with three challenges. One left. The Dragon. We need to ready
ourselves.

BERGLJOT
Dammit... even in Valhalla I could hear that pale pain-in-the-butt
Runa. I refuse Heavens if Runa‟s with me. Bring me back to life...
(vomits)

17
RUNA
What‟s this sticky mud-like shit? Bergljot! You, bitch! I‟ll kill
you now!

BERGLJOT
(stands up)
Runa!

BJARKE
Halt, Runa!

RUNA
Darn!

DUSTIN
Bergljot!

BERGLJOT
Oh. Du-Dustin! Dustin, sweetheart!
(attempts to reach Dustin’s hand)

DUSTIN
(hides behind Bjarke)
Halt!

BERGLJOT
No men in this world refuse my hands. Only you. Only you my life
clings on to. This is sad. Truly sad.

HEMMING
Hmmm... he is a gay?

BERGLJOT
(slaps Hemming)
Mind your muddy mouth, Hemming!

BJARKE
Err he‟s not a gay. He‟s just afraid of woman. Gynophobist.

GUNNARSON
Women can be so terrifying like a vortex of storm at times yet so
pacifying like a cuddle of breeze most of the times. It‟s all about
how men navigate the sail and where they harbor their ships.

HEMMING
Hmmm... a magnet for ladies yet dead drop frightened of ladies. What
an irony.

BERGLJOT
(slaps Hemming)
Say no more words!

GUNNARSON
I thought Dustin‟s gynophobia had already been a public secret
esepcially you, Bergljot.

18
BERGLJOT
Since when you care about my team? We‟re rivals! Remember that!

BJARKE
Say, Elf. How did you end up being stranded here on my boat? You
were with the wizard. Merking said you passed his challenge so I
thought you were ahead of us.

RUNA
The storm swept them like snot in the wind. And our bad luck, she
was here.

BERGLJOT
Bravo! So, Undeads have brains after all.

RUNA
Damn you!

BJARKE
Runa.

BERGLJOT
We passed the Kraken, the Merking, because of my skill and beauty.
That‟s true. We‟re swept by the storm. That‟s partly true. Did you
know what cause the storm?

DUSTIN
Th-The weather?

GUNNARSON
The wind was suppossed to be tranquil but it suddenly changed.

RUNA
It‟s not the weather. It‟s something else.

HEMMING
Hmmm... you‟re right. It‟s something else. It‟s the Dragon!

BJARKE
The fourth challenge.

BERGLJOT
(slaps Hemming)

HEMMING
Hmmm... what‟s that for?

BERGLJOT
You stole my moment of thriller!

DUSTIN
So, the storm is the Dragon‟s breath?

BERGLJOT
Oh. Handsome and resourceful. True, sweet Dustin. The storm is the
Dragon‟s breath. It breathes storm.

19
HEMMING
Hmmm... that‟s untrue. Wing flaps. The dragon‟s wing flaps evoked
that sky-shattering storm.

BERGLJOT
(slaps Hemming)
Dammit! Should I stitch your fungi mouth? I was trying to get some
attention here and you ruined it!

HEMMING
Hmmm... Sorry...

BJARKE
I didn‟t see Even and Fell with you, Bergljot.

HEMMING
Hmmm... they sacrificed themselves to lure the Dragon from hunting
the lady.

BERGLJOT
(slaps Hemming)
You did it again! You stole my precious moment of grief and sadness!

RUNA
Sacrificing? I bet your boss ordered them to be a bait to save her
green arse.

BERGLJOT
My men‟s loyalty toward ME is like Yggdrasil, immovable. My feelings
said they were still alive. Thus, I expect you, Bjarke, to spare me
a space on this sole-itching boat of yours and take me to the Hidden
Mountain of Skyslumber, the place you‟re sailing to.

RUNA
Haughty as always. Never say „please‟. Only want to be pleased. Say
„please‟ and perhaps, we might consider your plead.

BERGLJOT
Darn! Never! People please me not I please them!

GUNNARSON
Please brings peace and please makes you pretty.

BJARKE
Dustin.

DUSTIN
Err can you say „please‟, Bergljot?

BERGLJOT
Oh. Th-This is a dream! Dustin uttered my name! Oh! I would say
„please‟ as much as you want. Please, please, please, please,
please....

20
BJARKE
Ok. That‟s enough.

BERGLJOT
Pleaseeeee!

RUNA
Shut up!

GUNNARSON
May you rest in please.

DUSTIN
L-L-Look!

BERGLJOT
What is it, sweetheart?

DUSTIN
D-Dragon!

ALL
(screams)
DRAGON!

DRAGON
(roars)

RUNA
It‟s breathing fire! It‟s coming at us!

BJARKE
Jump!

BERGLJOT
Curse you, drake!

Black out

21
Scene 2
Few weeks before Bjarke‟s quest to the Hidden Mountain of Skyslumber
In Ingrid‟s house

Light on
Bjarke, Ingrid, Inger, Olaf, and Zan are seen in the dining room
Zan is busy serving the family

INGER
What do you do for a living?

BJARKE
I-I work on transportation.

OLAF
Oh. I thought you were working on military field. Look at your
brawling-bred beard! That‟s a tough look!
(laughs)

INGER
Olaf.

OLAF
I-I am sorry.

INGER
Transportation? You lease a carriage or an owner of horse breeding
company, perhaps?

BJARKE
S-Sort of.

INGRID
He‟s a courier.

INGER
(choked)
C-Courier?

BJARKE
Y-Yes. I own a courier company. It‟s called Zephyrsmith. It-It‟s
made quite a name.

INGER
An owner of a courier company? That‟s wonderful. I thought you were
just a plain employee.

OLAF
It‟s surprising. A man on his early days like you already has a
company to run. Managing your employees must have kept you busy all
days.

22
INGER
Our family, the Highbanners, runs a swordsmith workshop with a
hundred and eight employees. Our customers range from nobilities to
commoners. This year marks our hundredth anniversary.

BJARKE
Th-That‟s incredible. S-So, your swords have taken parts in some
historical wars, I assume.

INGER
Nice remark. Indeed. The Empire has used our swords since the first
production of our smithy in their wars against fell creatures like
Orcs and Dwarves. A massive war will soon erupt between the Empire
and the Alliance of Orcs, Dwarves, and Elves to win a claim over the
Great Plain of Ragna and Ylva. Our swords will definitely bring
victory to the Empire, to us, humans.

BJARKE
...

OLAF
Let‟s hope that the meeting Her Holiness Ragnhild mediates will
fruit peace for both sides.

INGER
As long as politicians talk like a magician, act like a swordsman,
and live like a God, the hope for peace will remain a hope.

BJARKE
...

INGER
Say, how many employees do you have to run your business? I might
give you suggestions on how to manage them so that you could run
your business effectively.
(takes a drink)

BJARKE
Th-Three...

INGER
(hiccups and spits the sip to Olaf)
Three hundred?

BJARKE
It-It‟s three...

OLAF
That‟s amazing. Three hundred employees under the management of a
single young man? You definitely need a wife to share the work. Two
things wives are good at: waving at your leave and waiving your
money.
(laughs)

INGER
Olaf!

23
OLAF
Pardon me.

INGER
Three hundred employees. That‟s a gold work you have there. You have
a pair of gold mine-digging eyes, dear Ingrid.
(takes a drink)

INGRID
It‟s only three. One, two, three.

INGER
(hiccups and spits the sip to Olaf)
Three? Three after two?

BJARKE
M-Mine is a new company.

INGER
Oh. That‟s a nice start. I will teach you how to enlarge and enrich
your company. Say, tell me about your family, err what‟s your name
again?

BJARKE
Bjarke.

INGER
That‟s it? Only „Bjarke‟? Family name?

BJARKE
Son of Bjork. Son of Bjark.

INGER
Bjork? Have you heard any nobles by the name, darling?

OLAF
Bjork? The name somehow rings a bell. Where did I hear that name
before? Oh!

INGER
What is it?

OLAF
Bjork. I have ever met a Dwarf by that name before in a forest post
in Silentsayer Wood.

INGER
Are you trying to say that Bjarke here is a Dwarf? Did you know why
they were called Dwarf? It‟s because they are halflings, „short‟ in
a rude word. Look at Bjarke! He‟s even a slight taller than you.
Moreover, I would never allow any Dwarf‟s scent lingering on my
mansion.
(takes a drink)

24
INGRID
Bjarke is a Dwarf.

INGER
(hiccups and spits the sip to Olaf)

Olaf can evade the spit

INGER
You are a Dwarf? Your joke is not funny, dear Ingrid.

INGRID
I never lie, mother. Bjarke is a Dwarf.

INGER
Is that true?

BJARKE
I-I am a Dwarf.

INGER
But, your height...

BJARKE
I-I am genetically different from other Dwarves. My great great
great great great great great grandfather wed a Human and I am the
one bearing the Human gene of my great great great great great great
great grandmother. In the end, I inherited my great great great
great great great great grandmother‟s height while inheriting my
great great great great great great great grandfather‟s Dwarven
look. The combination of my great great great...

INGER
Enough! This is „great‟! You ached my head with that „great great
great‟ thing! Why didn‟t you just say „great‟ instead of „great
great great great great great great‟?

OLAF
He just wanted to be precise and accurate. It shows that he‟s an
honest man. The genealogy was traced back to seven „greats‟. If he
only said „great‟, it meant only one. Seven means „great great great
great great great great‟. When you said „great‟...

INGER
Enough with the „great‟!

OLAF
M-My apologies.

INGER
Ingrid! This is wrong! You will marry a Dwarf? That would only be
happening in a myth!

25
INGRID
What‟s wrong with marrying different races, mother? Love knows no
race! Hatred does! Ragna and Ylva told us so. They brought peace to
all races in exchange to their sacrifice. That‟s love!

INGER
Never learn love from a fairy tale! Learn it from reality! From
life!

OLAF
Ingrid was right. He‟s at human-height after all. That will secure
their kissing position (laughs). Ehm I am sorry. Let love unite
them, dear Inger.

INGER
Who would ensure that their children, MY grandchildren, didn‟t end
up being a Halfling?!

INGRID
What‟s so bad about being a Halfling? They are cute and adorable.

OLAF
True. True. Moreover, Halflings only require a half portion of meal,
house, and cloth. That means saving. That means less expense!

INGER
No more words, Olaf! You will never get my „yes‟, Ingrid!

BJARKE
I swear to you that I will treat her well.

INGER
I will tell you how to treat her well: leave her and that will do.

INGRID
Mother!

RAUL
Sorry for interrupting your evening meal.

INGER
Who goes there?

Raul appears out of nowhere

Zan swiftly reacts to attack Raul
Inger stops him from doing so

INGER
Halt, Zan! Identify yourself, wizard!

RAUL
Names never define you. They are the attributes of memory. More
names you know, more pain you will bear; the pain of honoring those
names. My name? I went by many names. For now, call me „Raul‟.

26
INGER
What ill intention did you bear for breaking through my mansion like
a bat to its prey?

RAUL
It‟s not an ill intention. It‟s an act to save the world, to save
humanity, to usher peace. Have I sounded like an orator? Definitely.
Okay. Let‟s cut the wishy-washy. I want the map to reach Hidden
Mountain of Skyslumber. I heard the Highbanners kept it for
generations.

INGER
Zan!

Zan strikes Raul, stabs, and kicks him

Raul falls

INGER
Not even an insect could sneak into my mansion without death as its
mark.

OLAF
From generations, the Highbanner descendants are told to kill in an
instant anyone asking about the map. Who sent you?

RAUL
(rises)
Oh. That was a sweet stab. The sensation was great.

INGER
H-He‟s unharmed.

BJARKE
What are you?

RAUL
What was your name? Zan. Yes. Zan, this time, slit my throat. Who
knows I might die with my throat slit? Come on. Don‟t be awkward. I
gave you the license to kill me.

INGER
Grant his wish, Zan!

Zan slits Raul’s throat in a flash

Raul falls

INGRID
Is he dead?

RAUL
(rises)
Oh! I‟m returning to life.

OLAF
Black magic!

27
RAUL
Neither white nor black magic is. Men‟s hearts whiten it. Men‟s lust
blackens it.

INGRID
Are you a street performer? Those with ball juggles?

RAUL
Oh. That was the sweetest reaction I ever met. Street performer. You
can call me that. Actually I am a simple person who seeks a peaceful
way to die. I want to die. Live in Heaven. Have a cup of morning tea
with Gods. But, it seems Gods dislike me and that makes me unable to
die. Oh. Sorry for my ramblings. Can I get the map now? I am in a
big hurry.

INGER
We will never give you the map!

OLAF
What are you seeking in Skyslumber? I heard the place was guarded by
an enormous storm-breathing dragon.

RAUL
Should we really talk about this? Okay. I‟ll tell you what I sought
but promise me to hand over the map after you heard the story. Okay?
I am after Brisingamen. That‟s it. Now, please, give me the map.
Pretty please.

INGER
Brinsingamen? So, Skyslumber houses that godly necklace?

OLAF
Brisingamen and Idun‟s Bracelet. Those in posession of the two
artefacts could harness the power of God.

RAUL
I should say „wow‟ for that. But, trust me. I have no plan to become
a God. What‟s the purpose of living when you cannot die? Okay. It‟s
such a hospitality you served me there but I am afraid I have to bid
you a warm farewell. The map, please?

INGER
Never!

RAUL
Lying is man‟s nature but it‟s bad. I need to discipline you. Say,
the Highbanners are swordsmiths, right? Perfect. What if I give you
a sword to smithe. It‟s no ordinary sword. It‟s sword made of flesh
and the flesh is of your daughter‟s.

Black out
Thunder is heard

28
INGRID
(screams)
Father!
Light on
Bjarke is suddenly holding a sword

INGER
I-Ingrid! Where‟s Ingrid?

RAUL
That man with Dwavern beard is holding her now.

OLAF
What?

INGRID
Father! It‟s me!

INGER
The sword is talking!

BJARKE
Ingrid! Is it you?

INGRID
It‟s me, Bjarke!

OLAF
What have you done to Ingrid?

RAUL
It‟s clear, right? I turned her into a sword.

INGER
I order you to return her to her former self!

RAUL
You are one arrogant lady, aren‟t you? You‟re annoying like a cat‟s
meaow. Be a cat, you shall!

Black out
Light on

INGER
Meaow!

OLAF
Oh. No. Inger!

INGER
Meaow! Meaow! Meaow!

RAUL
Oh. Even as a cat, you still meaow a lot.

29
OLAF
Please, I will give you the map but cancel the spells you cast to my
wife and daughter. Zan, please, hold the cat err I mean the lady.

Olaf rushes to exit

RAUL
Such a wise husband and father.

INGRID
Will I ever return to my human form, Bjarke?

BJARKE
I promise you.

RAUL
(looks at Bjarke compassionately)
You with Dwarven beard, what‟s your name?

BJARKE
B-Bjarke.

RAUL
Bjarke.

BJARKE
You will not break your promise, won‟t you?

RAUL
Certain warm light is emitting from you. You‟re destined to leave a
mark on mankind‟s history.

BJARKE
W-What are you talking about?

RAUL
I‟m intrigued to see the full extent of your power.

Olaf enters

OLAF
Here‟s the map. Now, please, do something to my wife and daughter.

RAUL
(takes the map)
Actually I planned to do that but, after seeing that guy with
Dwarven beard, I changed my mind.

OLAF
W-What?

RAUL
Great power is hidden within him and I want to know what power might
it be. So, let‟s play a game.

30
OLAF
Please, I beg of you...

RAUL
Worry not, Highbanner. I will fulfill my promise only if Bjarke
wins.

INGER
Meow! Meow! Meow!

RAUL
Would you mind preventing her from meowing, butler?

BJARKE
Y-You want me to duel against you?

RAUL
That‟s too barbaric. Let‟s race! That‟s more noble!

BJARKE
Race?

RAUL
I am sure Olaf had a copy of this map or at least a copy in his
memory. Use it to reach Skyslumber! If you could reach the place
before I do, you win and I will (snaps) and everyone will return
normal.

BJARKE
B-But you can warp yourself with magic. I-I think it‟s unfair!

RAUL
I will not use my warp magic. I will sail and walk like Humans.
How‟s it?

BJARKE
That‟s fair and square.

RAUL
Okay, then. It‟s decided! On the first dawn the day after tomorrow,
see me on Pearlhaze Port! I am so excited! I cannot wait for it! Let
the game begin!

Black out
Raul exits
Light on

OLAF
Please, lad. Save my wife and daughter.

BJARKE
I will do that.

INGRID
Take me with you, Bjarke! I am a sword now. I can protect you!

31
BJARKE
Can I take it err I mean her, sir?

OLAF
If you think it‟s the best, do it, Bjarke. That wizard was correct.
I remembered every detail of the map. I will redraw it for you.

BJARKE
I will not disappoint you, sir.

OLAF
I know you won‟t.

INGER
Meowwww!

Black out

32
Scene 3
Grand Temple
In a meeting room

Ragnhild is seen mediating Sigurd and Stein

RAGNHILD
Leaving the Great Plain to the Grand Temple‟s handle is of best
interest. The Grand Temple will never involve in politics. My plan
is to make the Great Plain a free area where all races and nations
are welcome.

STEIN
We respect you, Your Holiness, as Elvish blood runs through your
veins, but I am afraid Human‟s blood running within you will
intoxicate your pure Elvish mind. How would you propose to avoid
conflicts? As conflicts are of Humans‟ nature. Is that so, Sigurd?

SIGURD
I suggest you to mind your tongue, Stein Leafspeak. The Elves claim
all forests their home, the Dwarves claim the mountains, and the
Orcs claim the marshes. And now the three of you lay your claim on
the Great Plain also. What‟s left for Humans?

STEIN
You kind is like mushroom. It spreads everywhere and infects even a
stone. A parasite in numbers.

SIGURD
Longer life doesn‟t guarantee one‟s wisdom and you set an example
for that perfectly.

RAGNHILD
Lord Sigurd and Lord Stein, please, we need to focus on preventing a
wound from bleeding not opening it wide.

STEIN
The Alliance will always submit on what you suggest, Your Holiness.
What we fear is Humans‟ deception. They are like ants; great in
numbers and endlessly in need of living space, more, more, and more.

SIGURD
We need more living spaces. That‟s true. What about your kinds and
your alliance? You need them also and that‟s the reason behind the
claim of the Great Plain. What fears us the most is that you will
make the Great Plain not a living space but a dying one!

STEIN
Humans are born with serpent-tongue and chameleon-lips; saying
the„true‟ which only befits and benefits them.

RAGNHILD
Honorable lords, please, contend no more. Humans, Elves, Orcs,
Dwarves have the same rights for living space. No race is above
others and no race is more inferior before others. Good deeds are
what differentiates their status not wealth nor power nor wits.

33
Living space is to share not to claim. How you share your living
space today will determine your living space in hereafter.

Guard enters

GUARD
Your Holiness!

RAGNHILD
What troubles you?

GUARD
Some soldiers from the Alliance and the Empire brawl. We cannot stop
them.

RAGNHILD
We will handle that. Dismiss.

GUARD
Yes, sire.

Guard exits

SIGURD
That‟s what I fear. I might agree on your proposal but my people
don‟t. Sharing a living space with the Alliance is a bitter
experience.

RAGNHILD
But, it‟s our duty to show them the way and vanish their fear.

STEIN
We‟re not yet sharing a living space but commotion has taken place.
Sigurd and his Humans seem to refuse your plan from the start. I do
apologize, Your Holiness Ragnhild. We live in the forest, mountain,
and marsh. We‟re close to Mother Earth and she taught us to rely on
our instinct and our instinct is to fight. Blood will stain the
grass but it will never turn it to red. In the battle, truth shall
be unveiled. My leave I take.

Stein exits

RAGNHILD
Lord Stein!

SIGURD
You witnessed him yourself, Your Holiness. Though a war breaks, I
can assure you that Stein and I will never leave a mark of blood on
this holy ground.

RAGNHILD
Please, reconsider, Lord Sigurd.

SIGURD
When blood is shed, the time to reconsider will come. Excuse, me.

34
Sigurd exits

RAGNHILD
Why?! Why should war become the tool to acquire peace? Why?

Black out
Raul appears
Light on

RAUL
You have to face storm, first, before you see a rainbow bridge,
Ragnhild.

RAGNHILD
The best navigators will predict the coming of the storm, prepare
everything to face the worst, and minimize the damage their crews
and ships might suffer.

RAUL
When the skies are cloudy, no stars are visible, and no navigation
could be made. They will remain in silence, in prayer, for a clear
sky, to see the bright stars, to guide their sail.

RAGNHILD
Or they will toast for a cheer in wait for the clear sky, leaving
the prayers behind as for them, God is only a symbol. The only way
to make them realize is to send them a bolt! Erase them and give the
next generation a new ship and a new way to navigate the ship!

RAUL
...

RAGNHILD
For generations has the Grand Temple become only a symbol! Praying
to God is only becoming a daily routine! Their prayers are heart
less! It‟s all because the Grand Temple has no power! The divine
power of God!

RAUL
...

RAGNHILD
Am I too weak, Raul?

RAUL
A lady who made a pact with demon like me is not a weakling. You,
the symbol of light in this land, embraced me, the living darkness,
to lend you a hand in bringing peace to the land. This fact itself
is a proof that you are a tough lady.

35
RAGNHILD
Peace never knows dark nor light. When everyone lives peacefully,
they will forget the cause behind that peace. Night needs light to
call itself morning and morning needs darkness to call itself night.

RAUL
A lady with determination is a lady I fear and... love.

RAGNHILD
Raul...

RAUL
I will leave for Pearlhaze tomorrow.

RAGNHILD
I have ordered Bergljot to accompany you.
RAUL
Brisingamen will look perfect on your neck.

RAGNHILD
Please, stay safe. Ylva will never complete without Ragna.

RAUL
(smiles)

Black out

36
Scene 4
A cave in Skyslumber

The stage is divided into three parts: one consuming the biggest
portion is for Bjarke, Bergljot, and their comrades, second is for
Ylva‟s dead body, and the last consuming the smallest portion is for
the Dragon‟s silhouette

Light on
Bjarke, his comrades, Bergljot and Hemming are lying unconscious
Even is seen grilling a big fish

BERGLJOT
Whose foot is it? Dammit, Runa! Get your foot out of my face?

RUNA
Why the hell did you have to shout?

They get up

EVEN
...morning...

BERGLJOT AND RUNA

(scream)

BERGLJOT
Curse you, Even! You scared me like that!

RUNA
Damn! There‟s nobody normal in your team!

BERGLJOT
If you said he was not normal, then, you are not normal also. Both
of you are the same, Undead! Vampire!

Fell enters with snake in her grasp

BERGLJOT
Where‟s your wife?

EVEN
...there...

BERGLJOT AND RUNA

(scream)

BERGLJOT
What the hell were you doing behind me?

FELL
...eat...

BERGLJOT AND RUNA

(scream)

37
RUNA
You‟re with them almost everyday but you still screamed like a hell.

BERGLJOT
You‟re an Undead but you still screamed also!

RUNA
On the Undead‟s standard, they are on the top list of scarer.

Bjarke and the rest get up

BJARKE
I heard a thundering voice just now.

DUSTIN
Thor is working on his Mjolnir.

GUNNARSON
Or it‟s Ragnarok already?

HEMMING
Hmmm... woman‟s scream.

EVEN AND FELL

...hello...

BJARKE-DUSTIN-GUNNARSON-HEMMING
(scream)

BJARKE
N-Nice to meet you, Even, Fell. Did you save us from the Dragon?

EVEN AND FELL

...No...

DUSTIN
Look! There‟s a lady sitting on a crystal chair!

BJARKE
That‟s a crystal coffin.

RUNA
Crystal coffin?

BJARKE
A coffin that could preserve dead bodies. This one is unique. The
coffin is sculptured like a chair.

DUSTIN
An artistic funeral.

GUNNARSON
Her beauty is so peaceful.

DUSTIN
Indeed.

38
BERGLJOT
What is actually this place? Somekind of graveyard?

EVEN
...Dragon‟s...

FELL
...lair...

BERGLJOT
Wh-What?

The Dragon appears in silhouette

RAGNA
Greetings, humans!

ALL EXCEPT EVEN AND FELL

(scream)

BERGLJOT
One more scream and I‟m not sure I will live or not.

RUNA
I love the „not‟ part.

RAGNA
They hail me ‘Ragna’.

BJARKE
Ragna? Ylva‟s Ragna? So, that lady is Ylva?

RAGNA
Yes.

BERGLJOT
So, the story of Ragna and Ylva is a fable?

DUSTIN
Is that so?

GUNNARSON
If Ragna is a Dragon, what is Ylva? A bird?

RUNA
Shut up! Salt has intoxicated your brains, it seems. Don‟t you
witness it yourself that she is a Human?

RAGNA
Ylva was a Human and I was a demon.

DUSTIN
A demon?

39
GUNNARSON
The one with horns?

HEMMING
Hmmm... the fairy tale was totally a lie, then.

RUNA
That‟s right. The tale my mother used to lullaby me said that you
and Ylva were Elf and Human. Both you sacrificed yourself to end a
long lasting war between Humans and other races. My mother told me
that your sacrifice was not in vain as all of the races began to
realize their mistake.

RAGNA
A story for a lullaby is a story of bye.

BJARKE
What are you trying to say, Ragna?

RAGNA
I saved ye to listen to my story, to elicit ye the truth, and to
beseech ye for a help.

BERGLJOT
So, you saved us. I thought you killed us back then.

EVEN
...Ragna...

FELL
...saved...

EVEN AND FELL

...us...

HEMMING
Hmmm... what about that wizard Raul?

RAGNA
We fought. He left a scar on my left eye. Then, he thieved the
chance to pilfer Brisingamen and Bracelet of Idun from my wife,
Ylva. But, he didn’t leave this place without a price. I left
something on his body.

BJARKE
Goodness! We‟re lost! Ingrid would never return to her formal self!

RUNA
There has to be some way to free her from Raul‟s curse.

DUSTIN
Silentsayer is abundant of healing magic. I shall ask my Lord to
heal her.

RAGNA
Who is Ingrid?

40
RUNA
Ingrid is where Bjarke harbors her heart. Raul turned her into a
sword and promised us to dispel her magic only if we could reach
Skyslumber before him.

GUNNARSON
With Raul‟s victory and Ingrid‟s disappearance into the typhoon,
peace is far from reach.

RAGNA
Wear Brisingamen and Bracelet of Idun and touch Ingrid, it will
return her to her human self.

BJARKE
So, first, I have to defeat Raul and reclaim the Necklace and the
Bracelet. I witnessed him myself that any weapons were rendered
useless before him.

RAGNA
To defeat a demon, you need the power of God or the power of a
demon.

BERGLJOT
R-Raul is a demon? But, he is affiliated to Her Holiness Ragnhild.

RAGNA
Ragnhild summoned Raul from the Demon Realm.

BERGLJOT
By Alfheim! That‟s blasphemy!

RUNA
Every light leaves darkness.

GUNNARSON
How did you know that Raul was a demon and Ragnhild summoned him?

RAGNA
Raul told me that in the midst of our battle.

HEMMING
Hmmm... Did it have something to do with Battle in Ragna and Ylva
Plain?

RAGNA
Ragnhild shall exercise the same method Ylva executed to harbor
peace to the Land thousand years ago; blending Light and Dark to
usher peace.

BJARKE
I‟m still in the dark.

RAGNA
The Holy Ylva thou learnt from the tale summoned me to end the First
Great War between Humans, Elves, Orcs, Dwarves, and Undeads. Hearken

41
ye for I shall whisper ye the truth of our tale, the tale of regret
and forgiveness.

Black out
Light on

Quan and Kagan enter from different entries

They clash their weapons and freeze

RAGNA
Quan Wolfsbane the Rifter, the great Orc, clashed against Kagan
Gracelight, the Emperor of Humans. Blood was awash on the Great
Plain, the plain next generations named after my name and Ylva.
Arrows rained. Swords fell. Shields scattered. All that remains was
a pain.

Ylva reaches the stage from the audience direction

Ylva holds Quan Wolfsbane and Kagan‟s hands and freeze

RAGNA
Ylva, the Holy One, Keeper of the Grand Temple’s Key, the Divine
Vessel, embraced the Alliance and the Empire in love so warm. She
uttered words of peace but War’s ears turned deaf. She drew harmony
but War’s eyes turned blind. None heeded she for hatred had become
their breath.

Quan and Kagan exit

Ylva kneels down for a prayer
Dancer A and B enter
They dance a grieving dance
The dancers exit
Ylva in anger performs a ritual and freeze

RAGNA
In her despair for peace, Ylva embraced darkness. She chanted an
ancient spell to open the forbidden gate of darkness, to summon the
demon, to summon me.

Dancer C and D enter

They dance in a dark atmosphere
The dancers exit
Black out
Light on
Ragna appears kneeling before Ylva
Ylva offers her hand
Ragna reaches her hand

RAGNA
I descended from the Demon Realm, kneeling before the light. She
reached me with her hand of light to wed feel the dark’s touch, to
punish the dark-hearted, to evoke light-hearted peace. She ordered
me to assassinate Wolfsbane and Gracelight.

42
Light dims
Quan and Kagan enter
Special light shoots the two
As they fight, general light shoots the stage
Ragna receives the strikes from Quan and Kagan
Ragna kills them and freeze

RAGNA
The fall of Quan Wolfsbane and Kagan Gracelight chaperons a candle-
lit peace; short-lived in perpetual dark. Leaderlessness never
heralds a halt on chaos; it ushered even more chaos. The knowledge
that their leaders reaped each other’s soul fueled their warring
hearts with a drop of black-pitched revenge. Ylva and I traveled to
both sides to beseech for permanent peace but refusal and hatred
were the only welcome we received.

Black out
Light on
Ragna and Ylva are seen in sadness

RAGNA
I could not bear to see Ylva who had sacrificed her heart, her mind,
and even her dignity falling into a bleak fountain of grief. I
offered her a plan. I would transform myself into my true form, a
Dragon, and harbored fear to both warring sides. Ylva would then
stop me to show them the power of the Grand Temple they had ignored.
Only by fear greater than death, those with warring hearts could be
harnessed. I asked Ylva to kill me when I was in my dragon form. The
only power to subjugate a dragon is God’s power. I asked Ylva to
kneel on her prayers asking for Divine Artefacts. Ylva was averse
but I could ensure her that it was the best way. Then, Ylva prayed.

Ylva and Ragna kneel on their prayers

Freya and Dancer G and H appear from the audience seat with
Brisingamen and Bracelets of Idun
The dancers exit and the players freeze

RAGNA
Her prayers were answered. Goddess Freya bestowed her Brisingamen
and Bracelets of Idun. With divine power in her disposal, she
engaged herself to realize my plan. I reverted myself into a Dragon
and sent havoc to the warring parties.

Black out
Dragon roars, screams, and sword clashes are heard

RAGNA
Never had I in my life a purpose but the meeting with Ylva somehow
changed that. My fire, my fangs, my claws had a purpose after Ylva
summoned me. I would kill Ylva’s grief with anything I had. Ylva
stepped into the battle field to purge me for an eternal sleep. She
killed me.

Light on
Ragna in his human form bleeds before Ylva
Ylva is in tears

43
Freya in sadness stands behind them

RAGNA
All the people knew was that it was Ylva and I that killed the
Dragon. Our sacrifice to save the people brought an end to the war
and peace was assured to last for the next thousand years. Freya,
consumed in grief and sympathy, took me and Ylva to Skyslumber to
tie our heavenly bond far away from the mundane touch of mankind.
Freya saved me in honor for the desire for peace I had but I was
permanently cursed in my dragon form for the sins I had committed. I
lived happily with Ylva in Skyslumber for years until her mortality
separated her from me. The Divine Artefacts she wore gnaw her life
pieces by pieces. She was fortunate. Since she was chosen by Freya
to wear them, she could resist the effect for years. If somebody
unblessed by Freya wears them, the Brisingamen and teh Bracelets of
Idun will corrupt their sanity and mortal body. I just could not
bear the truth that Ylva had died so I preserved her body on crystal
chair. Even a demon has a heart. That’s what I learnt from Ylva.

Black out
Light on
The scene returns to the cave in Skyslumber

BJARKE
Even a demon has a heart...

RUNA
The fairy tale was not fairy...

BEGLJOT
That‟s so touching. Ours should be like their story, sweet Dustin.
DUSTIN
Stay away from me!

GUNNARSON
That Quan Wolfsbane was my ancestor. I am sorry for the war he
mongered. That‟s why I hate war. Nothing is more beautiful than
peace.

RAGNA
Everyone of thee has to lend thy hands to halt Raul and Ragnhild.
The priestess attempted to ignite a divine wrath upon the Empire and
the Alliance.

BJARKE
How could we fight their divine power?

RAGNA
Dwarf, thou have the light of a leader. It emits from thy heart.
Thou could end them with that light. Rise thy hand. Thou shall
receive my power.

BJARKE
Can I do this?

44
RAGNA
Thou are more than capable to save the world and to save thy heart.
Rise thy hand! Embrace my power!

Bjarke does as told

RUNA
Did you feel different?

BJARKE
I felt as if-as if I was born anew.

RAGNA
I entrusted my life force to thee, Dwarf. Use it to save lives.

BJARKE
Wait! Life force? Don‟t tell me you sacrificed your life for this?

Ragna returns to his human form

Ragna enters

RAGNA
It‟s worth of my life if it‟s for peace. My end is nigh. Unite in
harmony, heart-bearers. Diversity should never severe any bonds.
Diversity is not a sword that cuts, it‟s a sword that protects. May
peace return to the Land. Ylva, thou art lonely no more. Reach my
hand as thou did thousand years ago. Summon me thy side, Ylva.

Ragna kneels down before Ylva and dies

GUNNARSON
He died in peace.
RUNA
Every darkness longs for an embrace of light. When they meet,
twilight and daybreak are born.

BERGLJOT
What would you do now, Bjarke?

BJARKE
I am a courier. I deliver thing. This time I will deliver the most
precious item; peace. I would honor him by stopping everyone that
desires no peace in this Land. Bergljot, please, put aside our
differences for a moment. Lend me your strength.
(offers his hand)

BERGLJOT
Bjarke...
(takes his hand)
Let‟s fight together!

Wh-What are you? That creepy look. You must hail from the Alliance.

EVEN
...find...

FELL
...Ragnhild...

EVEN
...step...

FELL
...away...

IMPERIAL SOLDIER B
You scared me not! Die!

Imperial Soldier B slashes Even but he feels nothing

IMPERIAL SOLDIER B
By Ragna and Ylva! Y-You aren‟t bleeding! Inhuman!

EVEN
...please...

FELL
...run...

IMPERIAL SOLDIER B
(screams and runs away)

Even and Fell exit

Dustin and Bergljot enter

DUSTIN
Where are the others? Why should be only with you? A she-Elf!

46
BERGLJOT
It‟s destiny. It‟s destiny.

DUSTIN
Keep your distance from me!

BERGLJOT
So, you want to protect me from the front? I am touched! This is
romantic! We‟ll fight the enemies together. (Dustin exits unnoticed
by Bergljot) When the enemies corner me, you will be my shield,
protecting me, sacrificing yourself for me. Then, tale-tellers will
narrate our love through centuries. Take my hands, Dustin,
sweetheart. Dustin? Dustin? Where are you? The enemy must have used
magic to warp him into their camp! Goodness! Who could have done
such thing? Only Elves are avid on any magic! I have to save him!
Even if it‟s against my clan!

Bergljot exits
Gunnarson and Hemming enter
Alliance Soldier B enters

ALLIANCE SOLDIER B
An Orc and an Elf. A fellow sibling. That‟s relieving. I thought you
were the Imperials back there.

HEMMING
Hmmm... you‟re wrong.

ALLIANCE SOLDIER B
What? So, you are on the Empire‟s side?

HEMMING
Hmmm... you‟re wrong again.

ALLIANCE SOLDIER B
What? You‟re on our side, right?

HEMMING
Hmmm... you‟re wrong again and again.

ALLIANCE SOLDIER B
Dammit! So, whose side are you fighting for?

GUNNARSON
Peace‟s side.

ALLIANCE SOLDIER B
What? Peace? Is it „Peace‟ referring to a man‟s name or that
situation of „peace‟?

HEMMING
Hmmm... you‟re wrong again, again, and again.

ALLIANCE SOLDIER B
You made me look like a fool. I‟ll smash you! Die!

47
Alliance Soldier B smashes his hammer to Gunnarson
The hammer is scattered

ALLIANCE SOLDIER B
Darn it! My hammer!

GUNNARSON
Peace...

ALLIANCE SOLDIER B
Monster!
(flees)

GUNNARSON
Peace....
(falls)

HEMMING
Hmmm... He fell. I have to drag him! What a drag!
(pulls Gunnarson to exit)

Raul enters while choking Imperial Soldier C

IMPERIAL SOLDIER C
D-Demon!

RAUL
I am. Demons and Humans don‟t mix.
(throws away Imperial Soldier C)

IMPERIAL SOLDIER C
What‟s a demon doing on Mortal‟s realm?

RAUL
I‟m enjoying my vacation here.

IMPERIAL SOLDIER C
I‟ll purge you! Die!

RAUL
You‟ll purge yourself.

Raul casts his spell to Imperial Soldier C

IMPERIAL SOLDIER C
My-My body! It‟s moving by itself! Help! Help me!
(kills himself)

RAUL
Have a nice trip to Hell! Say my „hi‟ to my fellow demons, okay!
(vomits blood)
Wh-What? Blood? Damn! So, he wasn‟t just bluffing. He left a curse
on me. He exchanged his life for my immortal body. Curse you, Ragna!

Bjarke and Runa enter

48
BJARKE
Raul!

RAUL
Oh, Bjarke. You look different somehow. I could smell Ragna‟s scent
flowing from you. It seems he has given his life force to you.

RUNA
This is wrong, Demon! Ragnhild‟s decision is wrong! No mortals could
harness the power of God unless they were divinely chosen!

RAUL
Ragnhild is the High Priestess, God‟s manifestation on this laic
world. The Land will soon inhale peace once more and Ragnhild will
be the reason for the peace.

BJARKE
Ragna and Ylva had proven it wrong to sow seeds of darkness on a
chaotic soil to grow a tree of light!

RAUL
So, Ragna have told you everything. Listen, Dwarf. Their mistake was
to sacrifice themselves for mankind. We won‟t exercise such
foolishness. Ragnhild will wipe clean those with warring hearts
within them with the divine power she has! Their death will be the
seed to grow a tree, a mighty tree of peace.

RUNA
Reasoning with him is proven to be in vain, Bjarke. Let our swords
talk!

RAUL
Fighting is Human‟s most effective and most used form of solution.

Thunder roars
Earth shakes
Light dims

RUNA
The sky is suddenly dark!

BJARKE
Ragnhild‟s started exploiting the Brisingamen and the Bracelets of
Idun!

RAUL
One epic chaos will commence! Prepare to embrace fear!

BJARKE
I refuse to succumb myself into fear! Runa!

RUNA
I‟m ready, Bjarke!

49
RAUL
Insolent mortals!

Bjarke and Runa deliver countless slashes and swings but Raul
manages to evade them

BJARKE
You evaded our strike. Aren‟t you invulnerable, immortal?

RAUL
...

RUNA
His fight against Ragna must have caused him so.

RAUL
That forsaken Dragon was totally a pain. I took him lightly back
then.

BJARKE
Submit yourself, Raul.

RAUL
I have a lady‟s smile to see so I cannot give up now. I am a demon.
Fighting is what I am made of. Underestimate me not, mortals, or
regret is all you‟ll have.

Earth shakes
All falls to the ground
Light dims

BJARKE
Earthquake.

RAUL
Behold the power of God!

RUNA
We have to take Brisingamen and the Bracelets from Ragnhild fast,
Bjarke.

RAUL
(stands up)
I will not let you pass.

Wind bursts
Light dims

RUNA
What now? A typhoon?

RAUL
Submit yourself before the sublime power of the Divine Vessel!

50
Ingrid in her sword form suddenly appears and stabs Raul on his
chest

RAUL
What?
(vomits blood)

INGRID
Oh! No! Did I stab a human being?

BJARKE
Ingrid?

INGRID
Bjarke!

BJARKE
Ingrid!
(runs to Raul and takes Ingrid out of him)

Runa takes the chance to smash him to the ground

INGRID
(screams)
I‟m bathing in blood!

BJARKE
(embraces Ingrid)
Ingrid! Forgive me for being unable to protect you!

INGRID
Err I-I am fine, Bjarke. Isn‟t-Isn‟t weird to hold a sword in a
romantic scene?

BJARKE
Uh-oh. Okay.

RUNA
(lifts up Raul)
Return Ingrid to her former self, now!

RAUL
The magic will be nullified once I am dead.

RUNA
Then, die!

INGRID
Halt!

RUNA
Killing him is the only way to free you.

INGRID
I don‟t want to see people dying because of me. I believe there‟s
another way to dispel this magic. Let him go, Runa.

51
BJARKE
Ingrid...

RUNA
Are you sure with this?

INGRID
Absolutely.

RUNA
(throws Raul to the ground)
You‟re saved by a Human. You will live with this insult forever in
Hell. Bjarke, we don‟t have much time.

BJARKE
This will be our final battle. Stay by my side, Ingrid.

INGRID
I am ready, Bjarke.

They exit

RAUL
Ragnhild... Forgive me...

The spirits of Ragna and Ylva enter

They smile at him and tend him

RAUL
Thanks to you... I‟m dying now (laughs) I‟m dying before I can see
her smile. A demon is a demon, right? No tales give them a happy
ending. (laughs) But mine is a happy one since I am a demon with a
heart, right?
(takes Ragna’s hand)

Black out

52
Scene 2
On a different part of Ragna and Ylva Plain

Light on
Ragnhild stands before the dying Sigurd and Stein

RAGNHILD
This is the Divine Retribution to all mortals foolish enough to bear
their fangs before me, before God!

STEIN
Y-Your Holiness...

SIGURD
Cull our quarrel! We-We have to stop her...together.

RAGNHILD
Filthy mortals have corrupted this peaceful world. Mortals are
corrupting their knowledge for wealth, corrupting the truth for
trust, even corrupting God’s teaching for power. Thou use God as a
symbol, as a property, as a tool for thy forsaken desire! Even a
demon has a heart to feel but all of this heartlessness is not
coming from a demon; it’s coming from you, it’s coming from the
mortals! Embrace the Judgment!

Bjarke and Runa rush to Ragnhild from different direction and stab
her

RAGNHILD
Filthy mortals!
(vomits blood)

Ragnhild with her magic pushes Bjarke and Runa to the ground

RAGNHILD
Why? Blood? I have become a God. How could I vomit blood?

RUNA
The Brisingame and the Bracelets refused her.

RAGNHILD
This-this can’t be happening! Why-Why did you refuse me to bring
peace to this world? All I did is to return peace to the Land, to
save humanity, to save my people!(screams)Peace is all that I want.
Is it sinful to unleash chaos to give birth to peace? Answer me!
(her body moves by itself) What-what’s happening? (her hands
uncontrollaby take off the Brisingamen and the Bracelets of Idun)
No! No! No! (she throws away the Artefacts) Stop it! Stop it! Stop
it!

Ragnhild pierces her own chest with her right hand

Ragnhild screams

53
RAGNHILD
Wh-Why did it happen to me? I just wanted to present peace to
mankind. Raul... Forgive me...

Ragnhild falls
Thunder roars

RUNA
We have to leave this place! This place has received a Divine
Retribution! It will invite omen! Let‟s hasten ourselves!

BJARKE
We have to save Ragnhild!

INGRID
That‟s right!

RUNA
Leave her be! Let her find her last peace... You two wanted to stay
here and receive Divine Retribution, Stein and Sigurd?

SIGURD
I won‟t let any Undead tell me what I have to do!

RUNA
(points her sword at him)
I could kill you now in a blink of an eye.
(smashes him to the ground)

STEIN
How dare a low Undead like you leave your dirty fingers on an
Emperor?

RUNA
(smashes Stein to the ground)
I am an Undead yet I appreciate life more than you!

BJARKE
That‟s enough, Runa. Let‟s leave them.

Runa, Bjarke, and Ingrid exit

STEIN
(helps Sigurd stand)
Everything is over now.

SIGURD
Thanks. I apologize.

Stein and Sigurd exit

Raul enters

RAUL
Ragnhild...

54
RAGNHILD
Raul...

Raul helps Ragnhild sit

RAUL
I apologize...

RAGNHILD
I am the one who should say sorry...

RAUL
This corrupted mundane world despises the union of dark and light.
Let‟s leave it. Let‟s go home to everything where it starts, to
nothingness.

RAGNHILD
I failed you...

RAUL
I failed you... You put trust on me but I wasted it. Ragna and Ylva
have been waiting for us. We won‟t be lonely.

RAGNHILD
Thank you, Raul. Thank you for everything.

RAUL
(smiles)
Our tale just starts. What‟s the best title for this tale of ours?

RAGNHILD
„Even a Demon Has a Heart‟
(smiles)

RAUL
(laughs)
That would be a tale people will never forget.

RAGNHILD
(smiles)
True.

They die
Black out

55
Scene 3
A year after that
Somewhere in Ragna and Ylva

Bjarke, Ingrid (in human form), Runa, Dustin, and Gunnarson are seen

GUNNARSON
A full year of peace. Harmonious.

DUSTIN
Are you sure about this? You‟re taking Ingrid with you. I knew that
she was your wife but her mother; sorry, Runa, she was the scariest
female being I‟ve encountered. Bergljot looks like a lightweight
before her.

RUNA
(laughs)
That‟s savage, Dustin.

BJARKE
She‟s okay. I love her. She‟s my mother.

INGRID
This journey is for the sake of building our own house. But, are you
sure, dear, to do hunting instead of your regular courier job?

BJARKE
Hunter in this era fills more coins in the pocket. Ragnhild‟s power
has disturbed the world; she unconsciously rifted the boundary
between demon and mortal world. We need to find a way to stop their
coming. The Empire promises Hunters with good money.

RUNA
The Empire and the Alliance have signed a peaceful pact and they are
now joining forces the demons. Somehow, I think this demon swarm
contributes positively to their union.

GUNNARSON
Oh. Awesome theory. You wanted to say that demons play significant
parts in the peace between mortals? Awesome.

DUSTIN
Ragnhild and Raul. I hope they found their own peace there in
Heaven.

A dragon’s roar is heard

Light dims
Black out

RUNA
The skies are dark all of sudden. This demon will pouch us riches.

BJARKE
Brace yourself! We‟ve got a company! Ingrid, please.

56
RUNA
She can fight?

BJARKE
I cannot fight without her. Ingrid! Transform!

Ingrid transforms into a sword

Light on

DUSTIN
By Silentsayer!

GUNNARSON
She could transform into sword? Peaceful!

RUNA
This is interesting. Are you ready, Ingrid?

INGRID
Let‟s hunt some demons, Zephyrsmith!

ALL
Yeah!
