Pneumatic Symbol Logic Gates Truth Table

This document discusses logic gates, pneumatic valves, and several logic network problems involving combinations of inputs and outputs. [1] It provides diagrams of common logic gates - NOT, OR, AND, NOR, NAND, and XOR - and their truth tables. [2] It then presents four problems involving designing logic circuits or pneumatic systems to achieve certain conditions based on combinations of inputs such as switches, sensors, and valves. The goal is to represent the relationships using logic gates, diagrams, and truth tables. [3] Solving the problems requires understanding logic gates and how to design circuits that satisfy the given conditions in a functional and cost-effective way.

LOGIC NETWORK PROBLEMS

1. A system used 3 switches A, B and C; a combination of switches determines whether an alarm, X, sounds:

If switch A or switch B are in the ON position and if switch C is in the OFF position then a signal to sound
an alarm, X is produced.

2. A manufacturing process is controlled by a built in logic circuit which is made up of AND, OR and NOT gates
only. The process receives a STOP signal depending on certain conditions, shown in the following table:

A stop signal (X = 1) occurs when: either Volume, V > 1000 liters and Speed, S <= 15 m/s
or Temperature, T <= 750ºC and Speed, S > 15 m/s
Draw the logic circuit and truth table to show all the possible situations when the stop signal could be received.

3. The homeowner want an alarm to sound if someone breaks into the house through the door or windows or if
something is moving around the house while the occupants are away. Under certain conditions, the user may
also want to disable the alarm system.
Operating States
1. Door and windows are disturbed-night time (sleeping)
2. Doors and windows are disturbed and motion is detected- occupants are away
3. Alarm will not sound- normal household activity

To accomplish the goal, we will design a combinational logic circuit using two switches to be set by the owner.
ASSUMPTION: Sensors are available to detect motion and detects windows and doors are disturbed.

4. A manager has asked you to design a pneumatic circuit system to be passed one hour later. The design should
include a single acting cylinder and a combination of valves. The valves, A, B, and C, are the main valves to
operate the single acting cylinder. The cylinder will extend only if the following conditions are satisfied. First,
valves A, B, and C are not operated. Second, valve C is operated while both valves A and B are not. Third, valve
A is operated while both valves B and C are not. Fourth, both valves A and C are operated while valve B is not.
Fifth, valves A, B, and C are operated.

The manager generously reminded you that he will give you a higher financial incentive if your design is
functional and less expensive.
